I think it’s actually easier to burn out when you’re doing something you love because you get lost in it and don’t realize how much you’re putting in. ❤❤❤ Hope you have a peaceful and restful Generic Holiday, Bill!

Had several buddies get a big burnout/midlife crisis after crossing over to 40. Oddly enough the thing that helped all of them was shaving their beard. All of them said it felt like regaining their identity, because they felt almost depersonalized after looking identical to every other 40 something bearded nerd. Maybe something to try for improving your mindspace.

Obviously haven't watched since this just dropped but i just wanted to say this before I do watch. Bill, thank you for what you do. I've been going through a... time... lately. I discovered you after watching boylei make a beadbot and namedrop you. Your junk builds actually got me moving for once and I've been working on my first build (not a beadbot ironically). I'm about to start painting it today but we all know that's the boring part. All of this to say... Thanks man. When I get through all of these hurdles I'm looking forward to subscribing to your patreon. Cat don't you dare heart this it wasn't for you.

@@BillMakingStuff I feel like that's exactly something cat would say. Regarding your video - I feel it 100%. I've always said that the quickest way to stop enjoying a hobby is to try to make money on it. I've got like 5 defunct RU-vid channels doing exactly that. Have you ever thought about selling just regular prints of your art? I just started watching not long ago so I think I missed all the watercolor auctions you did. I understand the kind of pressure people feel to produce content because when you don't produce you're not making money and that might be a good passive way to make some money to help relieve some of that stress. I'm not any good at tabletops but I want to try out bangarang. I'm actively searching for people I know that aren't too embarrassed to admit they play tabletop games. I've personally never played one before. Anyhow, I enjoy your content and anybody that doesn't want to support you because you need to take a break... Well I say let cat give em a visit.

Small is underrated! I love your small workshop and your small builds. Big drains more resources, time and effort. RU-vid is built on the neoliberal idea of infinite growth, but you can keep cultivating your community and making videos that you love and the people that love those videos will find them. Either that or train cat to actually do something useful and start crafting.

12:50 - this is kind of reassuring for me too :D. I am in Iran, and I'm studying cinema and just last week we finished a short movie where I was AD, and I do want to make films (I'm going to make my short film very soon); but there's always some anxiety in my head over that and what future holds. Seeing that you talk about your experiences and seeing the quality of your work and how much I enjoy it, just warms my heart and honestly alleviates a good chunk of that anxiety. Just wanted to say thank you, first for your amazing videos and crafts (you actually inspired me to collect weird shapes to create my own creations :D), and second for sharing your experience!

Wow, I always knew the workshop was small/narrow, but this video really does put things in perspective. I'm in a vaguely similar situation myself, I've got a decent amount of floor space, I could comfortably do a kickflip, but every wall is just windows, so many windows. I barely have enough space to hang a sheet of pegboard, nowhere for shelving, it's all super inconvenient really. Thanks for sharing Bill! I can't wait to get some bots built to play BITG with my brother.

Good video but now have many more questions to ask you. Which of you is the older brother? Do you live close to each other? Do you ever game together? Are both of you right or left handed or one of each? Which has more imagination and is it the one who's a more talented builder? Both married and have kids? How old is that house you're currently in (when was it built)? One day if you do end up with a big workspace I think you should do a replica of your original attic space. You could keep videoing the builds there or use it to put your builds and grow Respite in.

Acknowledging burnout is a great first step in stopping it early! @TechnologyConnections does a "No Effort November" series in the month of November where he puts nearly no effort into his videos. I might suggest you do something similar; take a month or however long you need and if you want to make a video you make it about what you want without worry about the algorithm and you don't put nearly as much effort into the edits, etc. Other than that, do your best to keep safe and healthy and know that no job is worth your health even if it's one you made for yourself!
@AntBangBang

Totally makes sense that you’d get burnout even if it’s doing something you enjoy. It’s still work and you do become a bit of a slave to the content. Go easy and keep it fun for yourself as much as possible. Merry Christmas 🎉🎄

Burn out us totally understandable, Bill. Like some others have already said, getting burned out happens easier when you're doing something you love and you willingly pour so much time and effort into it. It's impossible to keep it up! Which is totally fine! Breaks are good to refresh, find some new inspiration maybe, etc. ANYWAYS, this video is solid gold. Loved the workshop tour and seeing all the toys and stashes of things. Obviously I don't know you personally, but you're a cool guy, Bill, for what it's worth! And I thoroughly enjoy watching your crafting processes. Cat's a bit of a twat, though.

I've been with you and your channel since your first videos and I watch (and give a Like to) every one as they come out. I love them, and you do a great job. Speaking for myself, I'd rather you pace yourself and avoid burnout resulting in fewer videos than risk losing you altogether to RU-vid (as we have some other creative geniuses here). The algorithm may not like it, but you're important to a lot of people... we want you to be well.

Thank you for this video Bill. Burnout is so underrated - I’ve had a total burnout since my last video and I couldn’t even tell you when that was. Also - Oh my G… my non-generic deity, our making spaces are so similar. Total lack of space! My wife tells me all the time that I ‘need to throw out all that rubbish and junk’ - when I use it to make stuff! She just doesn’t understand, but now I see I’m not alone! And YES! I have loads of hobbies, and completely agree with you that I feel a little selfish when playing a video game. I just lose so much time to it. I agree with you on so many different things in your video. Don’t give up, keep on keeping on (sorry that was terrible) and erm, yep. Thank you again. Oh and Happy Non-Generic holiday period to you and yours from me and mine 👍🏻🤟🏻🤙🏻🖖🏻

What a great episode. I loved the walk around your workshop. It's really interesting. I did notice the picture i did for you wasn't there. Then again, I wouldn't put my stuff on the walls either. Only kidding, smashing insight to your working process. Have a rest, I look forward to your 2024 videos.😊

I really enjoy what you do. I’m currently going through the same burn out in my craft and find it very helpful to listen to what other crafters have to say about their experiences. It’s really very supportive….. thank you 😊
