I feel that way too as a Nigerian, but you have to keep in mind that Burna’s audience in 2012 was typically Africans, whether in their respective African nations, or in the U.K./USA. Most were just uni students who were playing his music, along with other African artists. African music as a whole, (not just the Naija/Ghana popular sound) just didn’t have that global audience at the time. Now that we have big name artists doing collaborations and gaining more visibility, more light is being shed unto our African sounds! Burna boy wasn’t a hit in the UK since 2012, people only started realising and noticing him since Ye and then from there he just released African Giant in early 2019 which made him to skyrocket. Maybe in Nigeria he was a hit but 2019 was definitely Burna’s year in regards to recognition in the UK
