Yeah, fans like that are hazards. You used to hear about fans catching fire alot when they first started making them really cheap like that because the shitty little motors would burn up and catch the plastic on fire, that is why they all have fuses in the plugs now; because it is cheaper than actually fixing your crappy product.

​@@destructionfun Yeah, fuses that usually aren't replaceable because the sliders that you need to push to access the fuses aren't functional, and resultingly can't usually be opened without either damaging the sliders, damaging the fuses they house, or damaging the plug and rendering the fan useless entirely. I bet that, combined with not knowing how to replace the fuses, is why people throw a fan away if the fuse in its plug blows for any reason.

The Lasko "blue plug" safety fuse plug things don't have a replaceable fuse at all, they are molded into the plug. In reality, the fuse blowing in the plug isn't that common. The most common failures I see are lack of cleaning, the motor gets plugged with dust, and since it is so small and the vents so tiny; it gets hot, blows the thermal fuse embedded into the windings, and then they throw it out. As well as lack of lubrication since nothing has oil ports anymore, and nobody would oil them either way. They lock up, blow the thermal fuse and that is the end of it. If the fuse in the plug is blowing, there is likely something shorted in the windings anyway. Of course, I see 80s/90s Lasko and Lakewood box fans which have never been cleaned or oiled, are CAKED in dirt and dust, and have been running in a moist garage or basement for decades, and they still run great; so there is no excuse.

Yeah, fans started getting cheap in the 2000s, but they were still acceptable and preformed okay. In the early 2010s, they were getting too cheap for their own good, but at least still worked. The ones made today are so cheap they barely preform their single basic function, it is pathetic.

Well, they are not rare or hard to find in any way, buy one. They are absolute junk though.
