In this video we take a look at the fantastic new airfield from Burning Blue Design, Earls Colne Airfield, and a big thanks to them for giving me the opportunity to fly it in the sim.
This is yet another example of Burning Blue bringing a historical airfield to life and they have done a marvellous job of it.
The FlyingIron Simulations Spitfire L.F MkIXc just got a significant update bringing some new realism to it, including ground handling and differential brake steering, so a great opportunity to have another trip to get used to the changes.

Another really enjoyable video and great scenery by Burning Blue! Cool to see the HR200 in MSFS too. We just need a flyable sim version now! Great to explore this part of the country in your video with its wartime RAF, USAFF & 8th Airforce past. Nicely done.

Wow, what a beautiful (and awesome sounding) flight :) I really have to say, England has some of the best looking ground textures in MSFS. Together with these beautiful airfields, it really does not get much better.

These guys have done another cracking job on this airfield - I remember it when it was just a small industrial estate built over the original WW2 airfield.

Good job Rob!! I know this is about the scenery, but I'm loving this Spifire update with what must be the only taildragger in MSFS with proper non-steerable tailwheel ground handling characteristics! Btw the update includes a new shortcut to the tablet by clicking on the two canopy bolts on the RHS of the cockpit. Cheers!

Many thanks Rob. They actually first brought this steering style in on the Hellcat and I can highly recommend it if you want some radial grunt! :)

I flew in there some years ago and it does look accurate. It was winter and there were a few wintry showers about. I took off to return to nearby Andrewsfield but there was one of these showers in between so I had to divert back to Earls Colne and wait for it to pass.

The Harvard is a regular at Duxford and I wondered where it lived. It’s definitely one for the shopping list. I hope BBD get round to North Weald at some point too.

I was a firefighter at RAF Wethersfield in the late 1970's it was a reserve airfield until 1993, when it came under control of the Ministry of Defence Police and I believe it was put up for sale in 2016 but that has now been extended until 2025.

@@Dreamsofwings Apologies, i did watch it again last night and yes there she was, parked all on her own down the end of the Airfield. A popular aeroplane to fly in at Earles Colne, she is the oldest North American built example in the UK. I hope to add her to my list sometime this year, making that 15 British T-6s flown in.

When I tried this update I was surprised at how much I had to work the wobble pump and the primer - the pump is easy, it has a light, but I'd never have got the primer without looking at the tablet. Is 8 pumps on a cold engine a good rule of thumb ? I got plenty of practise because I had the throttle set too high and didn't start with the stick pulled back so the plane fired up and was immediately pulled forward into a faceplant. Several times *cough*.
@Dreamsofwings
@Dreamsofwings Год назад
Yes for normal conditions from cold and fark 8 pumps does the trick. When its colder it sometimes needs more, 10-12. There is a chart somewhere but where is the fun in that! 🤣
