This is my first time seeing detective come to conclusion so fast. Usually they tend to say along the lines of “actively looking into it” or “ it appears to be suicide but we are still investigating “

Even if this started as a suicide, burning a body in public at the very least is interfering with a corpse and is illegal and therefore "foul play." No one hangs themselves while setting themselves on fire. Something is very wrong with this- how can they even have enough evidence to make this assessment if the body has been burned, which removes most evidence (and therefore is highly suspicious in and of itself).
Naw, he just wanted to be shure he died. My plan was to jump off a cliff and than shoot myself before hitting bottom. And that's after I took a box of pills. Ya godda be shure.
Well, if it's possible for one to hang themselves and it's possible for one to set themselves on fire then this shouldn't be a hard one to solve with all the technology we have these days.

I don’t work in law enforcement, but I do work in the medical field and have seen many suicides. Never have I seen one like this. Having said that, someone please explain how a burning AND hanging body can so quickly be written off by police as a suicide?!
Considering how fast this was labeled a "suicide" with no real detective work you really have to wonder if the victim has filed complaint or lawsuit against an officer or department, or if they were the spouse or "friend" of a spouse of a police officer.
Probably hung himself or herself, and then set himself or herself on fire, either as backup or to make it quick. Probably had lighter within reach (like his or her pocket) while hanging.

I don't think you know what a lynching is. A lynching is not specifically hanging but public execution without trail. A beating , stoning ect can be a lynching too.
It seems like they don't want to label stuff when they need to label stuff, because when I saw the headline that's exactly what I thought but that smooth talking detective assured me otherwise.

Hope the victims case will actually be solved one day cause this is clearly not that clear cut.

there was a suicide i saw on a gore website the dude chugged a bottle of random pills with vodka, he slit his wrist and set himself on fire, then jumped off a cliff with a noose on his neck and explosives tied to his body . and he placed cameras at the bottom and top of cliff. now that is sophisticated .
I'm glad everyone realizes they will tell the general public anything. Makes me wonder about qualifications for that job. If he feels confident making that statement so early in investigation.
It's blatantly obvious the individual was murdered. After all, how did he/ she light themselves on fire after hanging from a tree. Here's a question, how many murders have been committed around the country, and the cops labeled them "suicide" regardless of the evidence otherwise?
I don't buy it. How does a person light themself on fire and then hang themself? Wouldn't that person scream in agony? This sounds like a homicide to me, and the police are being too quick to dismiss that possibility.

I’m so glad I moved out of Hollywood and out of LA right before the pandemic. The city just really became a sad place. Hope things start to get better again.
Someone must have burnt the body as someone commented that would be considered negligence of a corpse, or tampering with evidence which would be considered foul play. So there is actually a major crime here. No one could hang themselves and set themselves on fire that is ridiculous.

Without actually seeing the crime scene, I would suppose a step ladder or other object like a chair/box, along with a can of something flammable would suggest suicide. I watched it twice and didn't anything as such. I suppose someone could have hang them and left those items to make it look like a suicide though. I guess someone could soak themselves, step up onto item, knock it out from under themselves after they lit the fire. Sounds like a REALLY painful way to go. You would have to really hate yourself or done something so terrible to live with in order to do such a thing. Sounds more like back in the KKK days though. Never said race of the person. Maybe there was a note????
What I think is sad is you believe someone would have to do something bad to done this to themselves. Ppl who commit suicide are usually in a lot of pain the invisible kind most cases the kind ppl discount. Sounds to me he probably had prior attempts and failed and wanted to make sure he didn’t fail. It amazes me how this is so beyond ppl’s comprehension. And just proves how there needs to be more education in this area.
Yes. This isn't the first case of finding someone hanging from a tree in California. In fact there have been a couple of stories like that in the last few years. Those cases were quickly ruled as suicide too but the scene of it didn't make sense. I wonder will they update the story with who the victim was?

What hanging device used that didn’t ignite itself and loosen the possibility of seeing the deceased hanging? This is so foul and that detective making that assessment so quickly is disgusting.
I had a college friend commit suicide in a quasi similar way. After the authorities reviewed the scene and traced the timeline of his whereabouts, there was no doubt. RIP.

Doubt that labeling it suicide right out of the gate is proper. But, prayers for the person who passed away, their family and the first responders. It is extremely difficult for them. Even if it was a suicide, my heart aches that another human being can decide that this is the only way out for them. To hang themselves & set themselves on fire is so horrible. So tragic.

So they are saying a man woke up walked to Griffith park when no one was watching with ropes and lighter fluids. Decided to hang himself but before he did that had to soak himself with some gasoline or something, and a lighter or matches to ignite himself. Burned and choked to death? ? Did the whole tree burn ? Any equipment left around? Did he drove there? Questions questions R.i.p to him.

Curious if u hang yrself then how do u burn yrself.If u set yrself on fire first would u then be able to hang yrself ? He did say the investigation “is still open” … due to the nature of the incident he is trying to put everyone at ease with “likely a suicide” so we (the public) dismiss and not be alarm by what we are all here already thinking due to it being a second body, that this can be a serial killer on the loose.

There are a lot of public suicides in ca...I went to school where a kid hung himself in front of our bathrooms. Then I also found a hanging body on a tree when I took my dog on a walk once... That's twice in my life... That's so crazy
Yea I read a similar story before when a man was found shot in the head in the river stuffed in a barrel that was chained up and the barrel had weights added to it. It was immediately classified as a suicide as well. Great job Detectives!

I’m sorry but what item did they use to hang themselves without that item burning off of the tree?? I have so many questions. Detective did say that suicide is their initial determination so hopefully that means they will look into this some more

I'm no detective, but I believe the deceased climbed up the tree dropping him/herself tied from their torso wearing flammable saturated clothing when they self-ignited. Nevertheless, very tragic. R.I.P. to the deceased. Condolences to the family & friends.
Burning alive isn't a fun way to go. People who self immolate are sending a message for something specific. Simply look up self immolation. People who commit suicide dont douse themselves in gasoline and hang themselves before lighting themselves on fire.

It depends on who the victim is, what they were in to, the events leading up to it, how they got to the park. The how it was is determined by what they find at the scene and the forensics. Sad in any way no matter what.
as a medical worker for 15 years I just need to remind everyone the likelihood of suicide is so low here... but its never 0%... the percentage of people who commit suicide by fire is the lowest because its not a easy thing to do... usually people who try it just end up suffering from pain and health issues forever instead of it being successful.... and the number if hanging suicides is higher.... **HOWEVER** the possibility that someone was able to pull off both is incredibly rare... and they left zero evidence behind... thats impossible.... no chair or ladder or box to stand on... no flammable liquids and No lighter or cigarette or fuse to trigger the fire. if this is a suicide (and thats highly unlikely given the evidence...or lack there of rather...) I can only assume they had a second party with whom they formed an after death pact with..... because there is absolutely NO WAY POSSIBLE that someone has covered themselves in flammable liquids, made a noose in a public park without suspicion.. magically put the noose around their neck and moved the item they were standing on.... then while they are hanging by their neck manage to get a lighter or match or some form of fire 🔥and strick the fire igniting their clothing and body and magically send all of the items they used to complete these multiple tasks into a worm hole for evidence..... I mean I have always known that one form of suicide will never guarantee success.... the best option is to have multiple plans at once.... but this honestly is one heck of a stretch for whomever is investigating this issue.....fire is literally the last form of suicide for anyone to attempt since it literally goes against human nature... its down there with self starvation.... the odds are never 0.... but honestly if this is a suicide it's one for the history books all things considered..... Not only is this tragic for all involved but it will definitely be useful as an educational tool.... but with my knowledge in the scientific field as well as the medical field tells me that this is 1) not a solo suicide or 2) the public is NOT getting told the facts of said case..... and we know law enforcement is almost always keeping some important information away from media eyes and ears... but I dont believe this was a solo venture to commit suicide in the slightest....🤔
