I have well fitted footbeds which work perfectly in my other boots. I have removed the spoiler in my new boots which helped a lot, it was crippling before. The width is the same as my last boot too but I am still getting burning. I will try a heel riser, which i do have in another boot but never needed in the old boots which are almost exactly the same as my new ones.. aaargh
When the foot’s natural position has a condition (like your wife’s low metatarsals, hammertoes), then can this be fixed with the shape of the footbed itself, or does the footbed always have to support the individual’s natural position? I am just thinking maybe the pad is not necessary if the footbed’s shape could help correct the position?
Yep, definitely can be sorted with a well shaped arch support and if a custom footbed is molded well, it will naturally fill in this tranverse arch. The other keys for a foot like this is adequate width, and a bit of downward flex in the footbeds support posting. (Because the ramp angle adds so much more pressure through a forefoot like this) There is other ways to approach also with some specific products like toe speaders and full width met bars/pads but not as nice a solution.
