Where we all support one another by I dunno, say a community-style garden, or if a person wanted to raise bees here and trade honey, or if someone was a wood-worker or painter and wants to sell their wares in the souvenir shop here. I just daydream about that all the time. Each having their own space yet supporting and being supported by others in the community. Maybe some day. I’m getting kinda old tho…lol. But who knows. Years ago I was on a red eye flight from Chicago to San Francisco. At about 3 in the morning I happen to be staring out the window and noticed an odd lit shape throbbed in the middle of nowhere. I had no idea what it was and I nearly asked other people if they could see what I was seeing. A few days later I discovered that what I has witnessed from the jet was burning man's burn evening. What a great way to experience burning man.

Ya from nowhere. They need to end that witchcraft ritual they do in the desert. Sure does attract a lot of people who are completely clueless to what burning is. They need to be truth full about what burning man really is and why men seem to just run into the fire and not come out. I rebuke this in the name of Jesus Christ! And He is God Almighty, Creator of everything! There is not anything that is that wasn’t created through him. Jesus is omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient! He is my Lord/God and the straight and narrow path. If you put your faith in Him all your sins are forgiven except one sin and that’s blasphemy of the Holy Spirit! Even witches who repent and put their faith in Christ will escape hell and inherit the Kingdom! Even people who sold their soul for wealth and fame if they repent they will go to the kingdom of heaven when they die. The only thing that will get you to hell is unbelief. So lay down your life and ask Gods to forgive all your sins so you may receive the one true all powerful Christ in form of the Holy Spirit he will guide you! Also say out loud so at least one person can hear you tell them Jesus is Lord/God Almighty and you will inherit the kingdom heaven where there is no more tears or sorrow! Jesus id my Lord God Almighty Time is almost up!

Thanks for the 2022 re-visit ! Ive got 6 burns under my belt. Haven't been I think since 2016. I was pretty sure I'd be back this year but a life priority changed that. NEXT YEAR ! Fun that a fellow "overlander" put up a good vid to bring me back for some moments. Interesting how we seek that solitude of the back country and deserts, yet the allure and crowds of Black Rock City draw us in like moths to a flame. As you said......no way to explain it. Even when you go, especially the first time.....afterwards you still shake your head and don't really know what the heck happened. Now and again I'll giggle in my truck camper digging around for something..... playa dust still in the nooks and crannies after all these years. I just smile..... I'm ruined too.

When I was young we used to go to music festivals and it was all pretty organic. No booths, almost nobody hawking merch, no grifting. Then we started noticing all of that stuff slowly popping up at concerts. At first it was kind of minor, but the hippies selling the stuff had an oddness to them; they weren't really hip. They were in hip costumes, they were just capitalists. Burning Man reminds me of that. The bars on wheels, the tents with the crystal healing music. The pop-up ad hoc little concerts. All the attractions. It looks like a big county fair, with carnival barkers and hucksters. And it's all for one purpose: The almighty buck.

It's a 'gifting economy' at the Burn. The camps get placement depending on what they offer - everything - food, alcohol, workshops - are free. The tickets are almost free this year too!!

Capitalism is a good thing. It means people are free to produce something good, and others are free to buy it if they want, and not to buy it if they don't. The opposite is socialism, where the state determines where you work, where you life, what you eat, and when you may come and go, and there is little available that people want to buy. That's all edited to make it appear that way. Yes, there are idiots that dump trash. Yes there are problems. BUT... you will have never gone to a cleaner event of that size in your life. The Playa is near pristine during the event, except right next to the porta potties. However people routinely clear those areas of trash and debris (of which there is actually very little). After the event, the org spends a month cleaning up the playa and returning it to its natural state. I've been to many other events with 10s of thousands of people. 100% of them are filthy compared to Burning Man.

Is that truly who is attending? I fall into that category of a rich person but I didn’t finance my kids adventures. I do fund their education, but that’s it. When I was young I attended many concerts and festivals all with my own money. I came from a poor family from a poor town. All the people that I know that have attended were not kids at all and they funded their own adventure. People I know that are wealthy generally pay for college and maybe trips to Europe but not Burning Man. This is not something I would want to attend but to be honest you sound a bit crusty. If not for the lousy music it looks fun. Then again I am old so of course the music sucks. My dad did not like Hendrix either. Take care

You are right about the lousy music ;) As for me: We tend to have our adventures faraway in Southeast Asia for the most part. Beats any music festival I have ever been to or played on (I performed over 200 gigs).

You should read the history of Burning Man. It didn't start on the playa and it was a completely free event. It started on a beach in San Francisco in1986. Now, if you can get a ticket, it will cost you $575 to $2,750. Just to park a vehicle cost 150 bucks! The people who took over Burning Man have become multi-millionaires from this once a year event.

When it gets that windy out there the visibility goes down to just feet so it would be less than satisfying. But, I have noticed that when you're high up on something [art project or immense art car] you find that you're actually above most of the dust which affords a very unique view of the city but who'd want to be up in that kind of wind? All the alkali dust is from when the lake was the bottom of an immense inland sea and there's an endless supply of it : ).
