Good lad, that is what you needed to do. I've had to do the same- how is it that something which smells so sweet tastes so bitter? Looking at your frames though, I think you got it quite soon and I hope that no other hives are affected. This video tells me that you are a good and responsible beekeeper, we need more of you down here.

Hi, Unfortunately this suggestion is a wee bit late. However perhaps you can try it if it happens again. If you charred (Yakisugi aka Shou sugi ban) your hive. Along with all the other benefits of Yakisugi, it would sterilise the hive without having to destroy it. Don't loose heart, love your videos.

my thoughts are if irradiating hives works like 99% why is it so prolific in Australia and New Zealand? AFB is not prolific in the USA but we burn then in the state i live in.

@@aussiebeekeeping as an avid swarm trapper out 3 miles from any managed colonies i have never caught primary swarms with diseases. i have a bunch friends who do cutouts and bees in tree removals and they have never seen AFB in them. its always in managed colonies.

@Peter Ward I agree I ran into a frame that is 8 years old the other day it quickly got cut out and put in the fire starter bin for starting a fire in my wood heater this winter. I'll clean the frame and relax a starter strip

Sorry to see it Sir. In thr us they let us keep the boxes just char the inside of the box with a torch scrap it out then good to use again. Even those top bar frames could have been scorched and used again. Sorry to see you lost is all.

@@aussiebeekeeping have one hive that’s infected in a apiary of five. Hopefully it’s just the one but have my doubts.

I can't see a timeline for when this has occurred but have you had a chance to think about your plan moving forward? Obviously this is really upsetting for you but given your knowledge and skill level it would be a shame to pack it in (so to speak) if that's what you're contemplating.

This was around October 2022. I’ve moved on pretty much. Looking to revisit top bar hives this year. Thanks for your comment.
