Thats a true friend right there! All Horse had to say was.. "bro they stole my bike and I’m down bad right now" His comrade didn't even ask any questions, he just expressed his dismay then said... "hold on, gimme a second" His friend left the whole comfort of his home and family just to support another brother in his time of need! His brethren took him by the calm waters, brought 2 fat spliffs to burn and sang a rejuvenating hymn to boost his spirits!! Thats one of realest scenes EVER in film. That was powerful!! They don't make friends like that anymore. That’s the kind of friend I am! That’s real love!
I cry every time I see this scene. He makes a compelling argument. "Call the Spear for the I". Feel the power of real music, it is a part of something all around us.
This is magical! The scene, his amazing acapella voice, the sound of the sea, the friendship. With a song, the man calm down his brother! This is art! Jah definitely was there in that moment! Greetings from Brazil!
As I listen to this it brings to mind what it must have been like as we journeyed in bondage across the Atlantic . Jah nuh dead breda Winston. We have risen up and await our redemption 🇯🇲🇯🇲❤️
You know how many time I play this live on radio is more than I can count. More than I can remember. This exact vocal. The lion did crown the king. selah
JUST ONE POST TONIGHT. ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL MUSICAL MOMENTS I'VE EVER SEEN IN A FILM. "Rockers is a 1978 Jamaican film by Theodoros Bafaloukos. Several popular reggae artists star in the movie, including Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace, Burning Spear, Gregory Isaacs, Big Youth, Dillinger, and Jacob Miller. Rockers was originally intended to be a documentary but blossomed into a full-length feature showing the reggae culture at its peak. With a budget of JA $500,000, the film was completed in two months. In this film, the culture, characters and mannerisms are authentic. The main rocker Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace, for example, is shown living with his actual wife and kids and in his own home. The recording studios shown are the famous Harry J Studios where many roots reggae artists recorded during the 1970s including Bob Marley. The film includes Kiddus I's recording of "Graduation In Zion" at the studio, which he happened to be recording when Bafaloukos visited the studio." I remember being a little disappointed the first and only time I saw this film in a theater and telling a friend of mine who probably knew more about Jamaican music than anyone on earth, I thought I could have done better. He felt the same way. Be that as it may, the film DOES contain this magnificent sequence when the great Burning Spear sings Jah No Dead a cappella in front of the ocean at night with his friend Leroy Wallace next to him.
Well Said! I too, love the Story behind this film. I had a similar feeling when I first was shown it by a Drummer friend of mine who loved various types of Reggae and Jamaican music( knowing I was as a lover of movies he introduced me to this film). I also thought at the time, this could be better in it's execution as a film.. but it had a certain charm, (genuine nature) and the music was on another level, so many great live performances.. I think back to this scene often.. Horsemouth having had his new Bike stolen, and Burning Spear, his friend Sharing a Spliff and a Song with only the sound of waves to accompany him . as they "talk about this matter" 1:45 they arrive to the beach 4:07 "Meet me at the bank of the beautiful River"
They went to the beach to think about it. Instead of announcing to whole village and imagine the consequences. We love the presentation here. So horsemouth announced to everyone. About the problem. When the spear say let's go to the beach, the rest are left guessing. At the beach spear just rehearses his latest release. We are not told what the rases agreed. Reggae is that cryptic
