I’m so glad you are listening to your body and reclaiming your time for what brings you joy! Take as much time as you need (though I’m quite partial to these casual ramble videos, if they’re more accessible for you to ease your way back in. They feel so authentic and make up for the past few years’ lack of socialization)

You're a joy by your nature, Charlotte, and for eight years you've been making me feel better just by sharing your company. If it feels good to you to just turn on the camera and let out what's in your head, that's still valuable. We don't need you to put on a big show or have anything special to say or be in a good mood or even get dressed. Treating us all like friends is the real "content," and it seems like it comes naturally to you. It's who you are. If even this video felt like a burden to make, my burnout advice is: ask yourself what you DO feel motivated to do or make right now - it might be some random thing that has absolutely nothing to do with any of this - and then pursue that. Find whatever intentions still feel natural and nurture them. Let them be your path back to being productive, in whatever way is right for you. It's okay if your relationship to this channel changes as your moods change. And yeah, as you get older. I also turned 40 recently and I thought it wasn't going to mean anything to me but, oops, it did. It meant that I suddenly had to reckon with everyone else's biases about what "40" signifies, and my own biases that I hadn't even realized I had. Even though it's almost entirely nonsense, it's still a whole new set of thoughts to put up with and it makes sense that they would disrupt some of your feelings. The main thing is to always stay on speaking terms with your thoughts and feelings, whatever they are. And you're doing that. Just keep being honest, keep sharing whatever's real for you, and you'll find your way. Thanks for everything you do.

Im so glad you shared this with us! I'm currently starting to feel burnout in my business as well because I work from home and I just feel like I am struggling to be present in my life and with my family because my brain always thinks about cookies. Also! I love these videos that aren't really edited and even if you aren't back yet... these rambles are awesome. Just talk to us about your day without all the editing and planning. I'd love to just have you talk about what you are eating and how you are planning on being healthier. (Obviously only make these if you are feeling up to it.) You are strong and amazing and you can and will come over this hump. It may just be you are moving into a new season of your life and that's cool too! (Just realizing I'm totally rambling now! So I guess I'll wrap this up. Thank you for all of your videos!

I'm going through something very similar, you've actually given me some tips so thank you. The only piece of advice I'd have for you is to delete tik tok. Everyone's always says you need to adopt everything the kids are into these days to stay relevant. But honestly, things like vine and tik tok aren't gonna make or break your channel. If anything, focusing on it can be more harmful to your work because of how their algorithms are designed to suck up all your attention. There's this fear we have of becoming irrelevant or missing out, especially when we do content work. But humans don't evolve like that THAT fast. Follow your intuition and take it slow, doing content for work is new and niche enough. Nobody I know my age does content for work and I'm 25, you're 39 and doing this new thing a lot my generation haven't fully adopted yet. I love videos like this, thank you for sharing it, take it slow and do you until you figure it out, sometimes we need to create space in our lives for something new to come in

I came to watch this as soon as I saw your tweet about it. Charlotte just take the time you need, your heart and soul are telling you that you need this time to rest and regroup. It’s not wrong to have these feelings, I think it’s very healthy that you recognize the need to take time for yourself. I’m probably like a lot of your followers here, I’ve loved you for years, ever since I saw your first posh picnics video. And I don’t just love you for your video work, I love you for your heart. I think the majority of your followers care more about you as a lovely human being and not just a content creator. We won’t be going anywhere. As far as chatting, I’d love to any time you feel the need. I’m a mom, a grandma and a retired psych nurse. I’ve got broad shoulders and I am a good listener. You can always DM me on Twitter any time and we can chat. You will get through this, I promise you, my dear. ❤️

Aww, burnout is the worst. I had similar stuff going on when I hit 40 when basically the perimenopause started. I've had a whole load of health issues since (many neurological) and I get tired SO easily these days. Please look after yourself, Charlotte, and try to include a 'rest-time' window into your day if you can where you're not looking at screens, etc. (I find podcasts are perfect for this). Sending lots of love to you 💜

My bit of advice? One day at a time. Forcing stuff won't get you where your mindset needs to be. So, one day at a time. Do something that sparks joy. Be it a walk on the beach, sitting and snuggling with your pup. One day at a time. I know I'll still be here when you're ready ❤

For like maybe 2 months I haven't been watching ASMR videos, but today I had this urge to check on my subscription list and as soon as I saw you I remembered how good videos you've made so I came to your channel. I understand that feeling when the work you have put so much passion into before suddenly feels completely different and as much as you wish to love it there's no the same drive. I was confused and worried, but what helped me was a spiritual channel that I found on RU-vid. From what I learned I think you're basically in a phase to change your life stage. So it's ok to do nothing but the things you're attracted to because there's a meaning for you to walk on the beach or enjoy the moment in the garden or watch Netflix. Who knows if you might see/hear the important message or even come up with an idea on what jobs truly bring you joy? Please just appreciate your surroundings and be thankful about a wonderful day that you got to watch TV all day long. Some people may not have those kinds of opportunities, so just embrace the moment and it's better to let go of guilt. I don't know if you believe in spiritual thoughts but your feeling itself is a guidance from Higher-Self, so there's no need to hesitate on things that you feel happiness and no need to focus on things that let you down. Everything has a meaning and it was good to know that I'm not the only one going through this, too. Wishing you the best Charlotte! And everyone who's experiencing it, too. Let's enjoy every moment of our life guys things will go well in the end 😁

I subscribed to your channel about a year ago and enjoyed watching all of your videos. They help me relax so much, especially at the end of the day. I will tell you this….it’s okay to talk and vent about the issues you’re having. Realizing that you’re burned out is part of the solution. I’m just glad you’re brave enough to face them and allow us to be a part of it. There’s nothing wrong with taking a few weeks off to “recharge the batteries” (as we say here in America). And it’s okay to not jump right back on the saddle once you come back. Sometimes it takes a little longer to start where you left off. I don’t think anyone is going to judge you for taking a little more time to upload another video. Take your time! Even if it takes another month, that’s okay. When you feel positive and comfortable enough to return, then do so. In the meantime, enjoy life! I hope what I wrote you helps. Cheers!

Aww Charlotte everyone gets burnt out at some point! Its human. We are not machines as much as I wish we were. I don't know if this helps any but even these videos where you are just rambling on or talking about whatever you wanna chat about is an amazing video for me. These are videos I tend to gravitate towards for relaxation. They help me just chill and wind down. Listen to someone else's stories of the day or things they are doing in life. Maybe on days when you just aren't feeling like doing a huge set up this would be a wonderful option! Take care of your self!

I've been there. There is a solution, which is to start small and build up, but to work out time for yourself. I got to the stage where I felt guilty about everything. If I was working I felt guilty for getting behind with housework, if I was doing housework I felt guilty I wasn't working. Work on giving yourself time for you where you unwind and don't think about the videos or whatever if necessary, if your schedule is too reactive to set aside specific time for specific things, have two jars. One with hour-long vouchers for me time, one as a place to put worries or ideas or things to do, and if you are on an hour's break and you get a worry or an idea, write it down, put it in the jar and carry on. Be kind to yourself. Love your work.

My advice is to detox from video screens - read books, sleep, meditate, listen to or create music, take walks, write, draw, color, paint, sculpt, exercise, garden, craft, clean, cook, decorate, enroll in a class, volunteer- anything to stay away from a screen, including tv

Thank you for sharing this with us! I think most people can relate to how you are feeling. Burnout is very real, & the people who follow your channel understand!! The content you create is so amazing, always carefully planned out and beautifully executed. You put so much time and energy into the quality of your videos and anyone who watches them can easily see that. So take a break, give your mind the rest it needs. Do things that bring you joy and make you smile and laugh…because it’s in those moments of happiness that the soul is most inspired. Believe it or not this video was perfection…it was authentic and real. Even though you don’t feel the “motivation” now it’s clear that at your core you are just a lovely person and you created very watchable very relatable content that reached your viewers and you didn’t have to plan any of it. Thank you for the videos you’ve made, many of us watch our favorites over and over, I know I do! So don’t worry about us we will have content to watch while you allow yourself some much needed time off. If I could give one piece of advice…as someone who struggles with many of the same things…when you do feel ready to get back to you tube, ease yourself into it, whether that means 1 video a week or maybe even just 1 video a month… set small goals for yourself and accomplishing them will make you feel productive. When I try to focus on too many things at once I get overwhelmed and shut down and then I don’t want to do any of it. Much better to pick a goal that you think is reasonable and doable. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself, work at a pace that feels comfortable and achievable. Sorry for long message. I really just love you and wanted you to know that you are not alone!!! 💕

As a Californian transplant to Edinburgh, SAD absolutely wipes me out: I don't have much advice (and if you find something that works, I would love to hear it.) The flip side of it is that now that the days are getting longer, I'm feeling a bit better. Actually, curries help. But it is like a 365-day-long roller coaster. I normally don't like ramble videos, but the clarity and humility that accompanies your emotional honesty and sense of humour makes such a difference; thanks for all this and all you've done.

I've had a couple of periods of really bad, life-changing depression and burnout over the past twenty years. It's an awful thing, and can overwhelm a person before they truly realise what's happening. Thankfully, unlike me back then, you seem to be more aware of your own well-being. It took me years to even admit to myself that I had a problem. It's good that you're taking this time to yourself. Everyone is different, and I can hardly go into everything that happened with me thereafter, up to today, but I find really forcing myself to get out, even on the crap, gloomy days, if I can get to somewhere with trees and some space helps. That's just one wee thing. I found that group therapy, even just sitting down with a bunch of people, and unloading was a huge help. It might not be that way for you, something to think about though? You take care. Better times will come. 😘

As a fellow content creator, business owner/entrepreneur, and all that sort. I went through bad burnout at the end of last year/start of this year as well. I had to really silence my mind and let myself just go about my day to day life and not worry about creating content to move out of the burnout. If people don’t have it it is hard to explain. But I hope you’re able to get out of the burnout. I’m so sorry you’re going through it. I’m proud of you making this video and talking about this and being vulnerable!

I burned out pretty severely 2 years ago; i felt exactly the same way you did about not being able to enter your office, but with completing any coursework for college. im still trying to figure out how to be a person again. In this society we're taught to feel guilty for resting and not being productive. Ive found that if youre able to forgive yourself for that, and prioritize your well-being over productivity, the path to healing is a little easier.

I struggle with this a lot, I always feel so guilty if I try and have a day off or don’t get as much done, but we do need to find time for non work activities/ breaks. I go through time periods feeling exactly how you described and what I tend to do is bulk fill a few weeks of videos and just relaxxxxx, do some hobbies etc. and afterwards I end up having a billion videos ideas and excited to work again! I know it must be different tho as RU-vid is my main job that I focus on, so it’s not as much juggling as your work life. If you ever wanna chat more tho, message me on Instagram! Charlotte, I feel the same as you… my own value was measured by how ‘productive’ I had been that day. So even if I gave myself a day off because I needed it, I’d feel so guilty. Then I’d try to be more and more productive each day because I was measuring myself against myself. I hope that makes sense. Therapy helped me a lot to almost retrain my brain into not measuring my worth/mood against my own views of my productivity. Step by step and day by day xx

Charlotte, I, too, suffer from seasonal affective disorder so I understand how difficult the winters can be. I understand how you enjoy a variety of work situations but to me, it sounds as if you are stretched thin among all the jobs you are juggling. I am glad to hear that you are taking days off to sort through the distress you are feeling and to try to figure out what us important to you. I don't know if you journal but sometimes it helps to put random thoughts down on paper. Someone once said "I don't know what I think until I hear what I say". Brainstorming can open ideas that you may not have thought of. A new direction, a unknown passion, a fresh perspective. Good luck and know there are lots and lots of people out here who care about you and are here to support you. ❤️

This was really nice. Inaudible whispers (sorry I kinda tuned out). It was really relaxing. I tuned back in at some point. Burnout is that state before becoming a master. If you stick with it, you'll internalize the activity so much so that you won't even think about doing it while you are doing it.

I just want you to know that i was watching this in a Led Zeppelin tshirt with my bathrobe over it haha. Also, LOVE air frying and just had grilled halloumi for the first time last weekend with some watermelon and mint. I’m on the feminist tiktok as well… and i am a registered dietitian… and a vegetarian. Basically everything you said, i was like “hey, me too…” including about burnout. I recently finished my masters degree and passed my boards to practice as a PA here in the states. I got through so much studying because of you. I pushed past my point of exhaustion too many times and now I’ve been actively trying to break up with ‘hustle culture.’ I let myself sleep for 12 hrs without feeling guilty about it or worrying that I am depressed. I make matcha green tea lattes for myself. I do yoga. I listen to mantras (Hare Krishna) because i find sound really healing. I eat SO much (but I love lunch). I read… i drive around with music I love. I guess i kind of ‘trick myself’ by telling myself my work to do is to heal, so when I’ve done that all day, i still feel like i did my work! I have to be careful with media though because it feels like resting but I never really feel rejuvenated after it. I have to set a timer on my phone for TikTok or make sure I only open it when my phone is almost dead. It sounds like you are also just really tired of being inside. All of your happy places are in nature. Maybe you can find a way to film outside. A nature/garden series with you or something like that….idk. Your homework is to spend 20 minutes outside before you do any work. (I always do better if someone else asks me to do something rather than if I ask myself to do it). My IG is BigToni713.. i look forward to pics of your morning walk ;)

An interesting tactic that helped me was, I tried noticing who or what I was envious of and then I tried doing whatever it is that they were doing. I too make content (writing) freelance, and it can indeed become an obsession. I've had to learn to slow down sometimes, to avoid burnout. It's still not easy to take my own advice, because any day i'm not working is a day i'm not making money, and the more work I do, the more I make. A blessing and a curse. YAY CAPITALISM.

I watched your vt and obviously had no idea what youve been going through. I did shed a few tears watching it as I am still trying to wade through the complexities of depression. Its something which I never thought I would have to deal with. Being immuno suppressed I was advised to 'shield' during the 1st lock down from 23 March 2020. I took it seriously as no one knew what Covid was going to do. I spent 5 months alone with my daughter bringing food over and leaving it outside. I had no idea how the 'solitary confinement' would affect me. At the end I couldnt go out, I didnt want to see anyone and I became very weepy about anything. NHS counselling didnt help me as it was telephone based and after thet had asjed me whether I was self harming wanting to harm anyone else or suicidal, I was told that, at that time, there was litfle else that could done. I just wanted to see someone and talk as I was confused and worried. Went private and saw a counsellor for about 6 weeks. Realised that it was helping when I was told that she wasnt the right counsellor. So, now, still weepy but having to deal with everyday chalkenges myself. Charlotte, I did wonder if you were had issues as the vts 'dried up'. Think it was extremely brave of you to 'bare' your soul to 'us' subscribers. Omg... there is help out there. It may not have helped me but it is so good to talk. Just rambling on to a friend is a great leap forward especially when you realise that you arent alone. Please dont feel pressured to film a video until its right for you. Sponsors and subscribers will understand. Get strong, treat this 'imposter' (depression) with disdain. You will 'rise' again. Hugs n luv to you. x

I found myself in this situation often. I have found if I just start doing something, usually it has to be a quick task, I am able to check it off my list and then I’m a little more motivated to do something else.

Perhaps a small suggestion: there’s maybe a sort of middle way. You need rest and time off - every mind does. You can’t run on empty. But days off don’t have to be totally vacuously unproductive either. Something I find weirdly super helpful is taking a long-ass walk each day. Then if I don’t even manage to do anything else that day, I still can’t totally beat myself up for “being completely unproductive”, because I’ll at least have managed to do that

Use each day in MAY to set-up a few daily affirmations/positive thoughts to help you shift out of this... "MAY I be _________." etc. MAY I be calm today, MAY I be helpful to someone today, MAY I use this morning for myself today before I am off to work. .... you write/say/repeat your different sayings every day. :) One day at a time.

We are programmed to believe that work is good for us - but it is not good for us if we aren't enjoying it and i is causing us stress. I gave up work at 55 because of depression and wish I had done it much earlier.. The sense of freedom was so uplifting. I've got hardly any money and it's been a struggle - especially as my state pension won't be paid for aother two and a half years - but it has been so much less stressful than the drudgery of work. I hope you find a solution that suits you. Hillwalking helped me a lot and I'm lucky to live in a rural area with gentle hills that give the reward of fabulous views when you reach the summit. What I'm missing now is a nice peaceful trip to the Outer Hebrides - my idea of heaven. All th best.

I have faced/am still facing?/ a terrible burnout. Each time I'd open my work laptop I felt like I was going to die any second. It made my whole body ache in such an odd way, like it wasn't there, but I still felt pain. This is why I decided to change my work. It gave me some relief, but three weeks into the new one I start feeling the same again. Not sure what to do next, going to my psychiatrist next week for help - I've been struggling with depression my whole life, but diagnosed just few years back. I could watch these dumm rolls and videos on FB all day long ot just switch to Prime/HBO/Netflix and bing watch like non stop. It feels so good, but empty and pointles.

Hey Charlotte. You are going through it aren't you? I haven't experienced burnout, however I understand where you are coming from with the tiktok watching. Some years ago, I went through a time where I got rather adicted to online games - not gambling but free games that you can play online. It got to the point where I wasn't enjoying them anymore, I was just playing them because I felt I needed to. Eventually, I had to sit myself down, give myself a good talking to, and came up with a plan to wheen myself off. It took a while, and I played solitair a lot (which is a game I do enjoy). I did eventually reach a place where the need wasn't there anymore. Even though the tiktok videos are things that you want to watch, if it's done too much, it can become a habit, and not something you nessesarirly want to do. It sounds very much like you need you at the moment. Take the time you need, and if ramble videos are a way of easing your way back in, well, I enjoy a ramble. You are a joy to watch and listen to, and I love your channel. Much love @x

I feel like I face an existential crisis every few years :D It's absolutely normal to be in pause and contemplate. Good things come from that. The next stage of your life is coming. At 41 I'm ready for perimenopause to start kinging in...I'm not a doctor, but some of the symptoms you describe: depression and burnout can be caused by the perimenopause by the way.

That totally sounds like technology addiction lol funny not funny but so many suffer from it whether it’s creating content or mindless scrolling. I think we all need to be mindful of how much time we spend in front of the screen! Life is happening all around us & we miss so much! I hope you can find that happy balance that feels healthy for you. I imagine just getting a ramble off your chest just like this can help for sure!

Thanks for doing this video. That thing you mentioned about it getting to the end of the day and you haven’t achieved anything (something a lot of us can relate to)… i think it’s a really difficult thing to step away from that mindset of having to achieve to be happy, especially when you’re a naturally creative/productive type. But I think it’s something you can get better at. Also comparing past achievement with current stuff can maybe be unhelpful, you can maybe rescale your sense of achievement, taking each day as it comes. Going for a nice walk that made you feel peaceful… hell of an achievement! I don’t know, I just think we all put such high expectations on ourselves. It’s ok to not meet those expectations. Whatever it takes to make you happy. Follow your heart. Do the things that bring you joy. Continue your healthy eating, meditate, walk. Continue your weaning from TikTok (My one is Insta 😉). Anyways, hopefully you didn’t take that in a preachy way… just meant as a friendly suggestion. Sending you love x

TikTok is so addictive, I’m the exact same (i’m 29 nearly 30), I love watching it for the educational videos, as I get ideas & learn from them (: i’ve had to restrict my time on TikTok otherwise i’d be there all night 🤦🏻‍♀️ I hope you rest & recover soon 😊 xx

Ok, serious time. Do you feel guilty for not achieving anything during the day? If so, then why? You should do what makes you happy, whether that's achieving nothing or actually getting stuff done. You need to think of yourself. It's good you have opened up about what you were going through and that is progress. Be happy doing what you want when you want. Also, Minecraft is amazing ❤️ Last year was a terrible year for me. I took 2 months off work to spend time with my family and too be with myself. Everyone needs time to themselves. It's good to spend time away. Please don't feel guilty about wanting to spend time away. Life's too short. Enjoy the moment.

I don't think the Tik-Tok addiction in itself is really a problem, I did something similar when I burned out many years ago. It's just a way to procrastinate and escape the roller coaster in your head for a bit. I'm not even surprised about the shower thing, I'm guessing it's one of those places where you normally plan ahead for what's coming after the shower. Which you currently don't want to think about or worse, outright dread. Better way than booze or drugs, so I wouldn't worry too much. What worries me more is the combination of social media, self-optimization/self-help and perfectionism. Social media -- because it's the land of make believe with global competition and impossible standards. It breeds insecurities. Self-optimization -- because it exploits those very insecurities to sell you on the idea that you are so deeply flawed that you must constantly improve yourself (rather than, say, lean back and enjoy life), lest you become unlovable, a failure or whatever big fears you have. It's a nice pressure cooker. Maybe that sort of self-help does some good in very limited amounts, I've just personally never seen anyone end up better in the long term. Usually more fragile and insecure. Might however be selection bias on my end. Perfectionism -- because you probably already put yourself under a lot of pressure over everything you feel insecure about from the get-go and can't let anything go easily. Put these things together and add a fair bit of frustration to the mix (unlikely example, but imagine a global pandemic were to wreck everything for a couple of years) and you've got yourself a neat, efficient way to mentally grind yourself down. Finally, that 5 job hamster wheel of yours. I get it, 9-to-5 is dull. Very. But you still live at your work place while burning the candle at both ends with side gigs. In my limited observation, few people can pull that off long term without ending up miserable. Sorry this got so long, I'm just trying to show you a different perspective on things, maybe it'll help with making decisions eventually. Take care!

This is really interesting to hear about (and read in these comments) as someone in the US where burnout is not taken seriously. It's expected here. People don't take time off for themselves in the states unless they're very wealthy and can afford to just not work for long stretches at a time. I really wish our culture wasn't like this.

Appreciate your video here and certainly sympathize. I guess what I see from far away is there’s something about parts of your jobs you really dislike and there may be some benefit to teasing apart what makes up all your jobs and considering whether you like that part or not. Like maybe you gravitate towards live people interaction and not so much computers. Or the opposite. The streaming/videos part is tough because it’s essentially isolating and never finished whereas it sounds as if your comedy part can be more “completed”. You sound like someone who likes things ticked off on the “to do” list and RU-vid might not give you that. Perhaps find the parts you like about your job (look at smaller and smaller components until you can say: “yah, I like that part”) and then zoom out to look at how you can make those parts the main part of your job(s). It is very intuitive of you to be so aware of your unhappiness - it gives you so much information and is so helpful. Speaks to how high your EQ is. Most people have no idea about these things! All the best. Jane
