The disallowing of foster parents to love the children they care for is akin to the treatment of Aboriginal children of the Stolen Generations in Australia. It is going to take generations to heal that pain; which is my family’s pain. Continuing to treat those children under the guardianship of the State with detachment goes against the community expectations of child rearing and is State approved neglect. Every child has the right to be loved.

Thank you so much, Joshua, for sharing your story and your thoughts. Hearing about the source of your burns within the first minute of this video brought tears to my eyes immediately. As a fellow suicide survivor who now has to live with this incredibly personal event marked on my skin, for everyone else to see, simply existing has been indescribably hard. I'm still recovering from the burns, and regularly undergo surgeries to work on the aspect of the scars. My mobility has been a bit impacted, but most of the disability is in fact due to people constantly staring and asking questions. It's especially hard coming from strangers and children. It makes it very hard for me to go outside; some days the anxiety and fear of judgment simply make me stay home to make sure no one will look at me or say anything. So I was looking up videos, seeking testimonies and advice on how to deal with people about that. That's how I found this documentary about you. I can't thank you enough for sharing your story. It made me feel less alone. And that was the first time I heard about someone else being a burn survivor due to a suicide attempt. I am still coming up to terms with this part of my story, but it definitely holds me back from seeking support from associations of other burn survivors, since I fear being judged and rejected because I did that to myself. Your testimony gave me hope, and maybe enough strength to indeed seek support from fellow survivors. I wish you well, lots of love from France xx

I watched it this morning on TV in New Zealand on time and inspired so much. Joshua, you're a strong beautiful young man. So beautiful and brave to share your story. You're an inspiration. I understanding but am still struggling to over come when the life would be broken and bruised. Just be yourself who meant to be and looking forward the life, that's the most difficult and important thing of our lives. Be proud of the scar and be in the community to help to share the story and pain. I feel miserable my scar and life now. Need to find the light to lead me out of the darkness. I never undestood why so many foster homes seem to be abusive or neglective, no matter which part of the world it is. Why the hell are they taking in kids then?! Pisses me off how many kid’s get ruined for life because of that. And that thing that they had to be moved due to over-attachment from the foster mom. Now THAT’S f*cked up! WTF is that?!

Josh, you are such a beautiful person both inside and out. I’m so glad that you survived all of the trauma that you have lived with. My best friend when I was younger was a foster child and she became my neighbor. She and her sister were split up but my friend got to stay with a parent who loved her. We got into some adventures and I’ll never forget them. Thank you for using your life experiences to help others. It’s absolutely outrageous that he was removed from his foster moms home because she loved him like her own. The system would rather have foster children in a home where they feel no love or bond then in a safe place with love. What is wrong with our world today!!!!
