Another thing to consider, depending on load, is many times a 2nd shot dirty bore is most accurate shot vs a clean bore 1st shot. You should put your custom data in using the 2nd shot dirty bore velocity if your starting your hunt with the dirty bore method. Fire one round off day before hunt for your fouling shot. Just something to think of, as many times clean bore flies different and may have a different normal velocity vs the dirty bore tighter group velocity many of us experience.
Burris, for this muzzleloader scope what is the "average speed" set for this scope? 1800 fps, 1900 fps? I use Blackhorn 209 and can load for the scope with my muzzleloader, powder scale and chronograph.
I bought this exact scope about a year ago. I put it on a new CVA Wolf .50 cal. After messing with it for about a year trying to get it dialed in. I realized it was the scope. The adjustments were sticking. Burris says they have a lifetime warranty. So I sent it back. I knew it wouldn't be back by opening day. So I bought another scope. I intended on buying another Burris. Because I liked how clear it was. I couldn't find another Burris so I bought a Vortex. That was a blessing. I had it sighted in with less than 10 shots. Where I had shot over 60 with the Burris. So still confident in Burris. They email me and say that. They can't find anything wrong with my scope. I email them back and go into detail about what the problem is. I am not a professional but am far from a beginner. I am using a Lead Sled. Using the same load. And cleaning the barrel after every shot. I had also removed the scope and checked every screw on the mount. Burris replied... We will gladly look at your scope again and check it if you still have problems. Why in the world would I put this scope back on any rifle? I have already paid $25 to ship it to them. And now they think I am going pay to ship it again? My reply to Burris. If you send me the same scope? I will throw it in the trash when I get it. I got the same scope back today. It went into the trash and so did the Burris name. This was my first and last purchase of a Burris scope.
Weird, had a lot of luck with Burris and good customer service. They even replaced one where tube got crushed using a ring manufacturers too high new recommended torque spec(DNZ so beware), no questions asked. So that one wasn't the scopes fault. I've had issues with Vortex and Bushnell though in past. They replaced that Vortex Diamondback, but the 2nd Vortex crossfire I tried got sent back for refund. I've actually seen vortex scopes reticles fall out of lenses, and they were not cheap Vortexes either. Could get a lemon with any of them no matter the make though. I'm still not that impressed with vortex, but Im sure they are better than were. Thinking about trying a Bushnell Elite 4500, but still looking before commit.
@@Hill_Billy_Without_A_Hill this was my first experience with Burris. I really liked how clear the scope was. I pulled the scope that came with the new CVA muzzleloader and put the Burris on. Because both were new and I had limited experience with a muzzleloader. I figured that it was me. But after eliminating all the things that could cause this. It was the scope. Even when the adjustments stuck. The muzzleloader still shot a close group.
@@paulaskew1294 Crap happens, I had a Nikon slug-hunter scope crap out, and it was a expensive test figuring out the problem. Went from shooting tiny groups to like 6 " groups. They fixed it. Sabot slugs are $$$$$. Ridiculous what they want for them, especially with their lot to lot differences in POI at times. Probably the worst thing I've had happen is, a side turret on a Bushnell rotate out the side of the tube just trying to get the cap off for a adjustment. That was over ten yrs ago probably. It wasn't a high end Bushnell, but at the time, I was hearing similar with some of the higher end ones having turrets pop off tubes somehow. It was hard to buy a Bushnell for me again, but a few yrs back picked up a Bushnell trophy and it wasn't too bad. No longer have it though. Burris has been a go to brand for me, for quit awhile. Seems everything is going down hill and spotty in quality. The Philippines made Fullfields seemed pretty good, not sure but the entire Fullfield series may be China made now. I know the IV series are. Haven't tried yet, but TRACT brand is looking good. Ex Nikon scope builders or something like that, started the company, is what I heard. Leupold seems good still. I think some of the Burris stuff is still good. They need a big update in their reticle options and power ranges. Seems they never put right power ranges and reticles options together. Some of their turrets don't make sense for their custom dials. Some of them are just a custom turret that fits over factory turret snugged with set screws. That seems silly, vs a removable turret with a solid screw foundation. Just seems the slip over version would get bumped off if set screws loosen.
One of the favorite scopes I have ever used, I love it. I purchased it last year and it did not come with a custom turret. Can I get one now through Burris?
Glad to hear that you like the scope! You can purchase a custom turret through Burris. You will need to provide all of your ballistic data and then they can send one out to you!
