Ray, PLEASE don't ever stop providing video content. The information you provide is priceless. I personally would just like to say thank you for all you do for the firearms community. I hope one day I'm able to take one of your classes and meet you in person !!! 👊🇺🇸🦅👍
Excellent video. Much appreciation to your thorough approach. I learn something every time I watch one of your videos. I bought that same set from Borka and have added pieces to it over time. Mighty useful and confidence inspiring knowing you've torqued everything properly. I want to protect my gear and start off with it correctly torqued. Great optic review, too, Thank you.
Learned a plethora of information on that Ray! Thanks so much for these videos!!! You should have over 100K subscribers for the valuable info you share!!!
I always learn a lot more from this lesser known channels where they actually explain every step and the logic behind it verses some other bigger channels where it's just all about the review aspect and very little attached extra need to knows.
I learned that I have to remove and reset the top caps. Probably wouldn't have noticed had I not watched this video. So, thanks again for the knowledge, sir.
Thanks Ray good stuff. To bad the glass wasn’t clear and crisp. Thanks for the review and the proper way to mount the scope on the F3R mount. Thank you.
Nice job as thanks for taking us on the ride as seems to just not have a clear lens for that market of scope quality....Love the info and detailed vid....Good stuff...
I have the Steiner T5xi in 5-25x56 and 3-15x50 and the glass in those leaves a lot to be desired as well..... Gotta say though... i absolutely LOVE my discontinued Burris 1.5-8x CQ-Mil scopes. Love their dual focal plan mil hash reticle with .25MOA center floating dot. Makes nailing targets out to 850 yards pretty simple.
I literally did the same thing with my XTR2-first look it was milky-also going from my ATACR 4-16x42 and Razor G2. Mine tracks really well-only weakness is glass IMO but it is still very usable. I read that this was the case prior to purchase but paid well under $1k new and couldn't pass up.
My NEW 2024 model, XTR 2 Burris Scope has, very NICE Clarity, even on 20 to 24 powers ( Just Bought it from, Scheel's for $599.00 ). I had heard that, there were some Glass Clarity Issues and, I think that, Burris FIXED, the Later scopes with, Japanese Glass,.. but, Philipines,.. Ground / polished. Love THIS Scope !
Great video, thanks! I have a Burris XTR II 4-20 with that same reticle. I find that it is a very good scope if you can get it for less than $1,000. In my experience, the glass quality is above average, but nothing to write home about. I do like the 34mm tube and relatively forgiving eye box. When I performed a tall target test, I discovered I needed a auto correction factor of .9912 (using Bryan Litz's technique from his RU-vid video on the subject). From zero-300 yards the error wasn't big, but as you noted, it accumulates and is worse closer to the of the range. At 600+ yards the error is significant enough to miss a 2 MOA target by dialing. Of course, if you hold over, it works just fine. Since then, I've since switched to Vortex Viper PST Gen II with the EBR-2D reticle (MOA). I'm much happier with the glass quality and performance. These days, I strive to use the holdovers as much as possible and avoid dialing. It takes a lot of practice! BTW - I still have my XTR II. It's a good range scope, but not quite up to serious PRS duty, UNLESS you do the work to find the auto correction factor! In my experience, you typically do get what you pay for in scopes. Although I would love to have a Vortex Razor HD budget, the Burris price point got me into PRS sooner and it was better to start shooting and learning than waiting. That was the biggest lesson for me, just get out and shoot whatever you can afford and learn how it works! Hone your fundamentals and when you can get better equipment, it will pay off all the more.
Great information and well presented. I just bought my XTR II 4-20X for $889. For its value and price, I wonder its fair to judge the lens quality of Burris against that of a Nightforce or a Razor II ..both of which are the next class of optics and twice the price.
I have all 3 scopes you mentioned and I would not compare the Burris to the other 2. It's got great features for the price which you could compare those but glass wise absolutely not.
I have an MTac 1-4x with the AR reticle and the glass is beautiful.... holds zero perfectly.... and is relatively light for what it is .... BUT the reticle is sooooo small and thin I have a tough time with my old eyes
What's your thoughts on a scope for a M1A that has a over the receiver scope mount? I'm running the Springfield gen 4 scope mount bracket. My goal with this setup is to reach out 700 yards. I know the M1A socom 16 is not a long-range rifle. The other rifle I'm looking into for longer distances is. Rem 700 sps tactical. What scope do you recommend for that rifle to punch out over 600 yards? I have a bushnell banner 2 4x12x40 on my M1A socom 16 now, and on my 22LR rifle. Witch is not bad. I know I'm going to have to upgrade as I learn and punch out over 400 yards
Would these results be different if you have verified level on your scope base and reticle? I was taught to have the spirit level completely flat when holding the reticle on a plumb line, and to place a level against the target when stapling it to the backboard. Did you take any of these steps before filming? I was interested in one of these scopes and now I'm not so sure with the glass quality you mentioned as well as tracking errors.
I am shocked he showed the mounting of a scope on an informational video like this. I mean at the very least, put it on a nice flat table somewhere and just put a level on the top of the top turret. This was pretty shocking to see and yes, never mount a scope like this if you actually want to use the hold overs. If you plan on shooting anything at distance, scope should be properly mounted.
FYI, you can get this scope for $599-$720 on natchezss.com. it's a blemished model. Price will be $599 for the 4-20 and $719 for the 5-25 XTRII models. I would never pay full price for it, but for $599 this is a hell of an optic and better than the PST which is slightly more expensive.
@@almostontimehero5415 I can go and find a ton of reviews/opinions on other scopes in the same price range that aren't given out for free so I don't really see your point. Anyway, I will let you get back to your stop the steal chants and screaming at the TV.
If you have the time, can you do a scope mounting video using specifically a Vortex Razor HD Gen II, the Vortex Precision rings, and a Savage 110 Elite Precision? To be honest, this is the first scope I have ever bought. I am afraid that I might break something.
As I mentioned before I am a new subscriber. Just wanted to say that your video was very informative. Your style was great especially for someone looking to get into long range shooting. Not sure about your background but I look forward to looking at your past videos and upcoming ones. I saw this scope in my local shop and was wondering how far Burris has come and whether this is a quality scope on par with vortex? Thanks again.
Hello EA. My apologies for the late reply. Dealing with RU-vid strikes at the moment as they are hitting all of the gun channels really hard now. With regards to your question. The Burris XTRII is no where near the same quality as the XTR III or XTR Pro. Vortex makes very good scopes as well. You will be fine with either but just make sure the scope you purchase checks all of the boxes on what you are looking for in a scope. Thanks
Have u ever looked through an arken Ep5? Jus wondering as I’d like an opinion on jus glass vs glass not overview comparison I have the Ep5 but i do t think it has quite clear enough glass for spotting when shooting a 22lr which is what I bought the arken for ima give it a full running but initial impression is it’s no better than other scopes at the same price but for jus a tad more I could get an athlon ares btr or Midas tac and I think that’s what im gonna do if I sell the arken
About the time of this video I was told that the glass is inferior to all highend scopes. Burris is aware of that and was told by a rep. that they will be improving the glass that comes from the Philippines. For the cost they cannot afford to be behind Vortex, NightForce and Tract that use german or japanese HD glass
I just bought one in 4-20X50 brand new off an auction site for $458 delivered. Could not pass that up. This is my second one. Glass reminds me of my vortex viper pst scopes. Nice but. Not like my Razors. I like the turrets on my Burris better than the vipers. Mostly because there is more elevation.
Think it is a great scope for that price. Lifetime warranty with a lot of features and an easy to set zero stop. The glass isn’t bad for the price point but a little cloudy when it’s shady and above 20x. Please keep in mind I am now sponsored by Burris.
So in your opinion what would be the best scope for the money? I am in the market for a new rifle and scope but not sure what to get. I don't want to spend over $600 dollars on a scope, is it even possible to get a good quality high magnification scope for that price?
I was worried about your review as I just ordered an xtr ii. Then you said it was worth 1200 and better than pst. I just paid 550 new. So I think I feel a lot better.
Why would Burris be giving stuff away at a bushnell match? Does bushnell own burris? I obviously understand the advantages of FFP but what is the advantage of using SFP? Like the Accupoint and a lot of the Trijicon products are SFP...
I would have been very impressed if it did better than it had. not to come of as a glass snob, but there are better scopes. Cheers brother! Miss ya man !
There definitely are. There are also scopes with better glass that don’t track worth a darn and are useless as an aiming device. Money into tracking first then glass. I think the swfa 5-20 does the best job of both under 1500 but these usually do pretty good. Though this was worse than most tracking tests I’ve seen of the xtr2. Usually have a very good record for tracking. Granted we don’t see his target or know how accurate that rifle is
Pretty substandard review method, honestly. You can't test a scope's tracking accuracy by firing rounds at a target, let alone when you never even leveled the reticle properly. The amount of variables introduced here is substantial.
$600 is a great Deal for this "much" ( a veryTOUGH Scope with, many good, Feature's ) and I, too bought one from, Scheel's, in Missoula Mt. @ $599 Plus,.. Free Shipping. Yes, not quite as clear as some Burris's, on the Higher Powers But, it's NOT a $1,200+ Dollar Scope,.. XTR III, either. You WON'T be missing, because of, .. "Clarity"
Nightforce rings on a Burris scope dude? Pure sacrilege ! There's a reason Burris and vortex have such a good warranty, it's because you're gonna need it!
How can a $1000 burris scope not track perfect? I would be dissapointed, it would go back... 1/2 moa in 5 inches is un acceptable. I would be ok with 1/4 moa in 10 inches...
I think it's unfair to compare the Gen 2 PST to this, I believe the Vortex is better by far. Also, what camo pattern is on the stock? Thanks for the videos!
Turn all the way left then right counting then divided in half same on up and down . 25yrd should be on the money or it has been for me several times. Doing this centers the scope from there adjust for zero.
Hello and thanks for watching and subscribing. They are Borka Kits . I have them occasionally on my website. Otherwise, you can order them through shooterstools.com
I've had two different 4-20 versions and both had some pretty bad chromatic abberation. Currently running a Vortex PST Gen 2 on my 6.5 CM and it's much better glass.
Exactly. both my PST and HST Scopes track damn near perfect. I have a NF that cost double the vortex and outside of a slight edge In Clarity the vipers shoot with it all day long. Almost picked up one of these XTR’s. Glad I didn’t now.
When you’re used to high end glass you will be disappointed with lower price stuff. That’s a fact. I also own an XTR2 and I think the glass sucks, but I’m always shooting with my Kahles k525i and my Minox ZP5.
Uses philippine glass 🤣 what they don't know is that glass made here in the ph (lapu² cebu) actually uses japanese technology as the company who manufactures those glasses are japanese owned.
I am a bit disappointed that you would do box test and give an opinion on the scopes tracking ability without properly mounting and leveling the scope first. Very disappointed.
I agree. That’s a really old video from when I first started the channel. Everything is done by laser and backlighting the reticle now. That was done in March 2020 so 3 years ago and the channel is only four years old. I was complacent.
