I perform as “Richard Carpenter” in the show “Carpenters Legacy” in Las Vegas, and one of the highlights of the show is our tribute to the music of Burt Bacharach. His way of taking complex rhythms and phrases yet still making it melodic, memorable, and singable was pure genius. There will never be another Burt Bacharach. Burt, thank you for sharing your talents with the world. What the world needs now is love sweet love, and you gave it to us all. ♥️🎹
Rest in paradise Mr. Bacharach!!!!! You were seemingly a sweet spirited, genuine person, with a beautiful warm, sincere, heartfelt smile!!!!!!!! You are indelibly etched in our hearts, with the wonderful gifts that you have bestowed upon the music industry!!!!! Thank you Burt Bacharach, you were a phenomenal composer, a Blessing to the art of music!!!!!!
Burt Freeman Bacharach - Gone but never forgotten! The incomparable and iconic composer of the 20th century. Born: May 12, 1928, Kansas City, Missouri, U.S. Died: February 08, 2023, Los Angeles, California, U.S. Education: McGill University, Mannes School of Music, Music Academy of the West. God Bless you Burt. May all the angels in heaven sing for you!!!
“Is” Please “is a gift from God” whew you scared me🙏🏼😜 I thought perhaps he had, well... at this age it seems all my childhood heroes et al, are passing 😬 and Yes I completely agree👍 Burt’s music soothes my soul, this guy... God has blessed the world through him👍
Bacharach and his major influences-Dusty, Dionne-later the Carpenters - were the best musical gifts my parents could’ve ever given me. And it’s not like they even knew- it was just always on the Wi-Fi. The Rumer trubute CD from a few yrs ago is amazing. Still influencing todays artists. Swing out Sister comes to mind
In addition to Burt and Hal’s musical knowledge and prowess, they we two secure males who were unafraid to get in touch with their feminine sides, echoing sentiments with such a depth of range and feeling. Dionne’s stellar voice brought their vision so beautifully to fruition. As a teenager in the 60’s, their brilliant collaboration set my emotions free.
Grew up listening to their music. An era when music was truly music, and not just a social political agenda like it is now. Vale Burt Bacharach and thanks for the memories of music that had transcended every era since.
You can praise something without putting something else down, you know... By the way, there was plenty of social political music in the 60s and 70s, remember? ;-)
Can't be enough accolades for Burt Bacharach. Along with Paul Simon and Neil Diamond he made the 60/70s pop music (music extraordinaire). As well, along with the brilliance of both Hal David and Dionne Warwick the ears of a young America at that time were educated to a much higher element of musical expression than could be hoped for. It took me a year or two (in about the mid to late 60s) to realize that a great deal of the 45s (single records) I was loving and collecting had Burt's stamp on them. Hit after hit after hit (and even some of the non-hits) -- so much fabulous music. Thank you Mr. Bachrach; and thank God for sending you to us. You took a God-given talent and through much sweat and toil turned it into a gift to the world. Well done (time after time after time). And in closing "I Say a Little Prayer for You" for good health and longevity -- and a few more wonderful songs, perhaps (please); because "What the World Needs Now"... is Burt sweet Burt! 2/2019
A giant! Burt is a true genius and his wonderful body of work speaks for itself as one of the best and most enduring collection of songs not only of the period from the 1960s to the 1980s, but of the whole 20th century. I've been listening to them and enjoying them immensely for more than 50 years and hope to do so for many more to come. May his memory be a blessing.Feb 9th, 2023
6:17-6:26 "Never ever feel embarassed or discomforted by a melody that people can remember or whistle." The documentary documents the impact of these words.
@@Nautilus1972 young folks are not exposed to different types of music these days.which is one of the main reasons why you don't see songwriters like Burt Bacharach..
Watching Bacharach and Warwick live together on stage and watching them looking at each other and completely in sync with each other and playing off each other is a beautiful sight to behold! I was just a girl and my first notice of his music was "The Luck of Love", probably because I was getting to that age where all of the sudden, I was interested in what love was all about! And then in high school, besides my beloved Beatles, discovering Patti Smith, Sex Pistols, Blondie but still also loving Burth Bacharach, Carpenters, Smokey Robinson. etc. It is sad to me that so many people willingly limit themselves by only liking certain genres of music. To be open to ALL music is to be open to anyone's heart- because that's what music does. I love that quote from when someone asked Duke Ellington what kind of music he liked, and he responded, "I like GOOD music". And Mr. Bacharach, thank you because you made some really GOOD music, that all music lovers will forever be grateful for and will play and sing forever.
@@tim2015 Thanks, Tim. But I need to confess my remembrance of Duke Ellington's quote was a little off. I realized after double-checking that he actually said: "There are two kinds of music. Good music and the other kind". The sentiment's the same, but my recollection wasn't quite right! So, in this case, good intentions are hopefully equal to good music!
What happens when this man is no longer with us? Music will lose something essential, most of all sophistication and beauty. Sure, we will always have his music and legacy. But let's hope another Bacharach will come along for future generations.
What made his amazing is the fact that he was able to hold his own in the 1960's when the Music at the time was either from The British Invasion, Motown, The Beach Boys were dominating The Charts. Even Phil Spector his Brill Building Colleague was starting to lose steam. I remember hearing not too long ago Jack Jones Get Ready For Love and it had such a Mad Men Vibe to it and it was played on The Show.
When I was in my early teens, listening to his music put me in a world all my own. I listened to him all through college. I was saddened when I learned of his passing.
If 60's mainstream music helped get you through the happy and sad times of your life, then you've just lost a piece of your soul. RIP Burt. You did well for all of us.
Omg I’m nine years old again, in love with the girl next door and I hear “ this guy”, amazing😎 true story, 1968, and I still feel it every time I hear his music, so gifted🙏
Brilliant sweet man! Your music has been with me over 50 years.Me and my older sister still talk about music like The Carpenters and how grateful we are to you for "Close to You". Everytime we talk about music your name comes up along with Herb,Hal,The Carpenters,Paul Williams and John Bettis. My favorite instrument is the trumpet and really any horn because of you and Herb. All these years later nothing has changed for me and sis.We must put your music on daily.Thank You for all of your work. We also still have a major crush on you! Love You always Burt!
Burt Bacharach left us February 8th, 2023...40 years and 4 days after Karen Carpenter went to heaven. God certainly blessed us forever with their uplifting talent. Carry on up there you two.
It's hard to believe that 35 Years Ago this year On The American Bandstand 33 1/3 Anniversary in 1985 Burt & Dionne did the first Song to help people with AIDS. Since then we've lost so many amazing folks.
Burt Bacharach was an incredible composer/songwriter.... and was very soft spoken. He was truly the full package. Too bad there aren’t any more class acts like that these days. We surely do need them after hearing some of the crap on stations today. Just noise not true musicianship. 🎶 🎹 🎻 🥁 🎷 🎤
He always had talent it's called classic music we need more like this we will always listen to him. So many hits best love songs what the world needs now is love!
God gives us such talents because He will make us happy. Thank God and Jesus...for them. I feel lifted up and happy. God bless You musicians and songers....oh...oh...amazing
I grew up listening to his melodies as my mom adored his music. So do I. This documentary was brilliant. I loved every second of it, and all of the musical genius's who surrounded this wonderful man.
A grand song composer who wrote memorable tunes & earned his rightful place in the annals of popular music. Just learned today that Mr Bacharach had passed. Thank You Mr Burt Bacharach for sharing your musical talent with the world. Your songs were favorites of my uncles & aunts & by extension me as well. Your musical legacy will continue to make listeners smile here on Earth.
Man., I see a lot of people on TV who are like, broken or offended when you say you're a one hit wonder. The incredible mental fortitude that it takes to compose and arrange and write the lyrics to even a one hit wonder band. Burt is just going to live on forever. You get hooked and swept in by his total package. He is the very definition of perfection. New bands and singers will come along after we are gone and will hear his music and say, "we got to cover this song." There's nothing wrong with that at all. That's how his music moves on into history. Great video. Thank you.
My all-time favorite composer - teaming with lyricist Hal David - he laid the future for my entire life. I'm 78 and his passionate songwritiing , melodies and variety molded much of my extensive mp3 playlists. A musical genius of our era.
I was born in '75 and first recognized Bacharach's name through linear notes on Elvis Costello's first album, he also covered "I just don't know what to do..."...since then I've highly revered him along with the 'likes' of Phil Spector and Joe Meek. Love the Shirelles!!!
What a beautiful look at this classy, talented man, his music seemed to bookend the Bossa Nova tunes of A.C. Jobim, smooth, beautiful melodies, complex chords, this music will stand the test of time, so great to see Dionne working it and playing with the melodies, wish I had Burt as my piano teacher instead of what's his name........later I taught all this stuff to myself. RIP Burt Bacharach. Such a huge loss.
It's amazing that Bacharach's music for WOMAN was terribly received in 1977. Listening to it now, 40 years later, we can appreciate that it was far ahead of its time. People are basically lazy when faced with something very original. They have little appreciation for nuance and want something that is very easy to understand. That is my humble opinion.
indeed they did. The medley they did of his music on an early CD is brilliant. And a little less brilliantly lip synched on the Carol Burnett show-avail on youtube. Richard Carpenter is another outstanding composer/arranger.
I think Bacharach and David did more for The Carpenters career, giving them their first hit, and other artists' careers, such as Dionne Warwick, Dusty Springfield, BJ Thomas and Jerry Butler and others.
Burt Bacharach, was one of those creative people who just made everything in music fit! the ears and heart; of people who love or are on their way to fall in love, or are in love! Burt, designed songs with this "Got-You! or Got-Chucha-Where-I-Want-Cha"! Hold on your emotions!
In the Bahamas 🇧🇸 were I live every home I went in played this great music of the greatest songs next to Sam Cooke off course his music was very much helpful in sad times for me so As a kid I sing all of them I thank God for this man and his music thank you young man for your hard work and music God blessings on you my friend of music.
@@kevinsullivan8570 You can not compare any composers work. But Jim Webb also wrote some great songs too. But when you look at the range that Burt Bacharach has written with Hald David and others then it is really big difference in hits.
Popular music involves a century of music-making. Have been -- since the 1960s -- among Mr. Bacharach's most fervent admirers, yet would not be too categorical of his being superior to other greats as a composer.
he gave so much to music. his associations with so many vocalists are amazing. he will be missed, it is amazing how relevant he remained. it's good to see warwicke here with him, an incredible vocalist.
MY ERA GROWING UP 50's & 60's - AS AN ADULT IN THE HOLLYWOOD MPI - I HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF WORKING WITH BOTH "BURT" & "CAROLE" & BARRY MANILOW TOO & YES "DIONE WARWICK" TOO! (RECORDS & MOVIE SCORING)THANK YOU LORD !
R.I.P. you genius Sir. Burt! My go-to always as a teenager, hairbrush in hand as my microphone! I was 8/9 listening to a lot of this music and am now much, much older yet the music remains as fresh and young as I was back then! Burt Bacharach...quite possibly one of thee most complex, emotional, vulnerable and beautiful song writers of our time! Still here in June 2023 as Cilla Black and Alfie has just got me through a time in hospital! MUSIC....the 1 constant in out lives🥰🥰🎼🎵🎹🎶
Jeromegrant Johns you are a visionary! Yes,This man is one of the alltime greats! But let us not forget the era that he collaborated with Hal David. That to me was Burt at his most definitive!
One of the great composers/songwriters. A legend in American pops music history. His music brings joy & happiness to many for decades, and still. Such a loss. He’s now no longer with us, but his music remains. His name’s marked in the pop-music world history. Rest In Peace❤️Burt Bacharach. You’ll always be remembered.
We will never see the likes of this genius Burt Bacharach he was a composer and song writer extraordinaire, a creator of mega stars, the principal person who transform popular music of the 60s and 70s to what it today no wonder today's music is in regression because of the absence of this genius
Fascinating. I'm happy he & Dionne were able to overcome the legal division & work together again. Good grief! And that this showed so many of the other greats that ALSO benefited from his talent.
God bless his soul😢we lost a legend .I remember hearing his name mentioned over the radio whenever his music was played when I was a little girl in the 60s. Never knew he made so many songs
One day, the undisputed King of goose bumps carefully tried to let me know I had mascara all over my face. So kind, gently seeking my gaze...I continued to avoid the recognition bc we were at one of those places where celebrities enjoyed being left alone. It cracks me up to this day when I remember adjusting my rear-view mirror to discover why I had to dodge his gaze more than once. I looked a mess!
I grew up hearing Burt Bacharach music all around me. It has become an intefgal part of me. Love it !!! It is a priviledge to have this life experience.
RIP Mr. Burt Bacharach. You helped shape the tapestry of my childhood and my wonderful memories of it. Your music is so beautiful. It’s timeless. It calms me at times and other times, I can’t help but feel like dancing, just enjoying life. You’re special that way. You made me “feel“. I will miss you. You’ll live on forever in my heart and forever in music history.❤️🙏
