This video answered literally every question I have about these bindings! Thank you! I've just bought a set and looking forward to trying them out soon :)

Jo Macdiarmid I’m glad it helped you out! The Step On system is fun, fast, easy to use, and it performs great. I always have people ask me about it when they see me step on so fast while they’re strapping in.

@@themidwestshredder Hey, I was wondering if you could help me. So I put my new Step On bindings on my board today to have a go stepping in and out of them, just on the carpet at home, and I noticed there is a lot of movement in the high back. When I lift my heels, as if making a toe turn, there is almost 10mm of movement before the board responds. I decided to put one of each binding on the board - my old Burton binding with normal strap set-up and the new Step On and the difference was huge. The old binding and boot has minimal movement compared to the Step On :( I wondered if you had noticed the same thing? Is this normal? I don't want to ride something less responsive, so I'm pretty disappointed.
@themidwestshredder
@themidwestshredder 4 года назад
Jo Macdiarmid there should be no movement unless you’re only clicked in once in the back. That space and movement is there in case you get snow and ice built on the footbed. This will still allow you to step on. Give it another go and see if you get 2 clicks in the back. When you get in, put the rear cleat in, press and get 2 clicks, then get the 2 front cleats in. Let me know if you notice the difference.
@themidwestshredder
@themidwestshredder 4 года назад
No worries on this set up, this is more responsive edge to edge.
@jomacdiarmid5331
@jomacdiarmid5331 4 года назад
@@themidwestshredder I definitely got the two clicks, I could hear and feel it, but there is still a load of movement. I got a video (in which you can hear and see the two heel clicks) of the comparison between the Step Ons and my old Burton Scribes and there is a noticeable difference. I don't know if there's a way to send you the videos to see what you think, I rarely use RU-vid.

@themidwestshredder
@themidwestshredder 11 месяцев назад
I think both will work just great for you. If you like the feeling of having a strap but want easy access, then go Nidecker. If you just want to step on fast and don't mind a strap not being there, get Step On.

to get out the bindings easier, move the release clips so that the levers are on the inside not the outside, you do this by swapping the mech from each binding to the other. 10 mins worth of work and you life getting out will be miles easier

If you have the Step Ons with the version 1 toe hook, they have a little play near the toes. The newer Step Ons with the version 2 toe hooks eliminated that.

Snapping into mine isn't a smooth process. I've seen where you can just step in but that's not the case for me it's a pain. And I feel like I have to rip my boot out when I un- clip. Any one else or have suggestions?
@themidwestshredder
@themidwestshredder Год назад
Make sure you dig the heel edge of the board into the snow. Bend your knees (for balance) and go in heel part of the boot first. Then go in from the two points in the front. Getting out you just pull the lever, bend knees, lift your heel out and turn heel inwards. If you practice at home, you will get it 👍🏽

Why isn't there any videos on boot fitting. That's the first priority. I just bought the 2021 Ion's and my toe is touching. The Ion is a super stiff boot and my question is will the boot loosen up eventually to the point my toe isn't touching?
@themidwestshredder
@themidwestshredder 3 года назад
The burton boots run true to size for me. They do break in a little but if your toe is touching and it’s uncomfortable, go a half size up. None of my toes ever touched the front of any of my step on boots and they still feel great even after breaking them in. With Step On boots I wouldn’t wear them too tight, you’re going to get foot pains.

Nice vid. Been riding these since their debut Nov 2 2016. My main recommendation is put your foot in flat. Initially, most people will over emphasize the heel in first approach. The heel will still go in nice and easy when you have your foot flat and toe cleats aligned. As you state, on your first heel turn, or little ollie your heel will lock into the second position. Here's an early video of the mechanics up close >>> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NFWS-o7mkQs.html. The biggest critics are those that have never tried them :)

Thanks for the video! Quick question about forward lean and footbed adjustments: I’m a size 10.5 which is the maximum for the size M bindings (8.5-10.5). What can I do if I want to ride forward lean? My foot bed is already maxed out. Will this even be an issue? I live in Florida and don’t get to ride much, so I haven’t had a chance to try or troubleshoot this.
@themidwestshredder
@themidwestshredder 4 года назад
Evan no worries. Sometimes the 2 clicks will go in even when you normally step on. If it doesn’t, you can tosionally flex the board. Press your front foot down and lift your back foot to put pressure on your heel. You can also just ollie a little and it’ll click in. Sometimes if you ride away with one click, hitting a small bump will cause it to click in anyway. You’ll be fine with the medium binding with the footbed at 10.5 👍🏽

My tips would be don't buy unless you are learner... And if you do don't get the genesis (the hammocks will fall off and only one year guarantee) and stick some shock cord through the gas pedal and under the reflex so you can't lose it on the mountain when it tries to fall off... Tip 4 Goodluck getting carving done on these without them falling apart... For any good number of weeks..

When you're on the chair lift, do you think it is possible for a ski/board next to you to hit the release lever? Wouldn't be great to lose the board on the chairlift!
@themidwestshredder
@themidwestshredder 4 года назад
Martin Bishop you don’t have to worry about that. It’s never even come close to happening and I go up on full chairlifts all the time. Put it this way, I think if you and i were on a chairlift and I purposely tried to lift the lever on your binding with my board, I wouldn’t be able to make it happen. When you partially pull the lever up and you let go, it springs back. When you pull it all the way up, it locks into position.

had a full day today riding step on bindings ( photon boots - heads up they are stiff boots ) was sceptic about it but after spending so much money on a whole set up i was like this better work... After i did several runs couldn't be more happier . get of the lift , stop clean inside of binding step in and go, i missed 2nd click numerous times ( or i didnt hear it ) but as soon as i rolled it was in ... pant clip for me was useless my pants came out so many times so before stepping i would lift my pant up click in and go , clicking noise was there but nothing to worry about . one strange thing about this whole set up is no toe strap so i felt really off first half of a day after that i got used to it and it was smooth sailing . . everything impressed me about this Step on system . 3 things i would change about this binding better cushion and more toe and better high back adjustability . Ride the stepon today. Im totally newbie at snowboard. Never snowboard never step on. The step in click was so easy. I think is pretty basic to understand. But when removing the shoes. Then where got me . When your not tired its easy to open the latch and switch your foot to inside. While you standing position. But if you tired after falling like 50 times its literally hard to remove the shoes from step on. Sometimes im just kicking the step on binding to whatever just to remove the shoes. 😅 anyway the step on system is great. Not many people have it here in Japan. And they always get jealous when i do the click especially when im standing position lol. Great shoes great system recommend 👍👌🏻

Man, there are so much to take note just to make this bindings work, if I have to constantly clear the snow under the sole of the boots (while standing on snow) I rather stick to normal bindings, it just takes the convenience away from its selling point.
@themidwestshredder
@themidwestshredder 4 года назад
Thekidisalright sorry if the video made it look that way but no these are super convenient and easy to use. I included this tip in case someone has a hard time getting the front cleat in. Check the bottom of the the boot and wipe it. That tip applies to step on or strap bindings. You don’t have to constantly clean the bottom of your boot with Step Ons. If I had to count how many times I’ve cleaned the bottom of my boot this whole season, it’s been like three times and that was on a full powder day at breck where the temps dropped and snow was sticking to everything. Snow was even sticking to the top sheet of the board. On this day you would’ve had to clean the boot and the footbed on a normal strap binding as well. Trust me, coming from a guy that also loves strap bindings, these step ons are badass and super convenient. Sorry that my video made these look difficult, but i promise they are super easy to use.

One thing,yesterday I met an old boarder (I would say around 60...or 65...what a boarder...😱😱😱...when I saw him the first riding his board I was stunned...I thought ok,around 20-25...he had so much speed, great technique...simple said,a very,very,very good boarder with much experience)...Ok,just so much...I was totally stunned by this man. He had a Lib-Tech Board and a SP Binding (my ride, Nitro,Team Gullwing with K2 Chinch...I love this board!!!)...I was talking about Boards and bindings...at the end,I asked him about step in Bindings.He said he rode years ago those step in Bindings...and he got a good (I thought it was good) argument about step in's... He said,when you ride on a mountain, on the top it's freezing and on the valley station it's warm and...I don't know in English (in german it's "sulzig")...I would say slushy...you know,a mix between snow and water......ooook,he mentioned,that when it's down there slushy and on the top freezing, you get the problem from ice in the step in... I mean,when I got ice in my K2, I have to get it out (like I think on other bindings, too)...I recognize it while riding...with snow or ice in the Binding it's totally distracting and disturbing. So,what do you think with the burton step on...problem with days like these? (Top freezing and ground warm and wet) Or, you just have to look up,that the binding is empty,before you get into the lift? I'm just curious,wich part of the States do you come from? I was snowboarding in USA...Once in Vermont (Mount Snow,Killington,Jay Peak)...and Montana...Jackson Hole,Grand Thargee and Big Sky Mountain and....some area near Bozeman...but I don't remember the name...😉😊 Keep on riding!🏂🏂🏂🏂🏂😊😊😊😊

DT G i live in Illinois (near Chicago) but ride a lot in Colorado. This new Step On binding is more like a normal binding. The way you wipe the footbed before you strap in on a normal binding is the way you clean the Step On before you step on. It’s absolutely no different. My cleaning technique is identical when I use Step On and Strap bindings. With one I ratchet and with the other I step on. In December I had the opportunity to ride a lot of powder. When you would come down to the lift, the snow was everywhere. Towards the end of the day, it got super windy and cold. The snow was sticking to everything including the top sheet of the board. It was the ultimate test for me to see if these things would fail. They absolute passed no problem. I quick wipe and maybe a little heel kick to break apart a little ice on the footbed and off i was. My friends had to do the same with their straps. I’ve tested these in everything and they have not let me down. I even hit big jumps in the park on these things. Yesterday morning I was in Breckenridge, CO and it was snowing, very cold, and windy at the top of the lift. People were having a hard time strapping in because it was so cold and windy. A buddy and myself stepped on and took off right away. It was another moment where it put a smile on my face. We both looked at each other and smiled. We didn’t have to say anything to each other, we knew what we were both thinking. I can understand why the older gentleman in the snowboard feels this way, but this is not your old step in. This is a totally different binding. One of my viewers said something like, that’s like comparing an old computer to a new computer from today. They are different. 👍🏽

I’ve used my step on for 2 days now. I’m a goofy rider and I notice after 2 days of using the step on, the dominant feet, which is the right for me, has some play to in on the toe hook. When I inspected the toe hook, there is some pretty good wear and tear on it for just riding for 2 days
@themidwestshredder

Emmanuel Gacusan the toe hooks can have a little play but for 2 days it shouldn’t have too much wear at all. What is your technique of getting in and out of the binding?
@Ejay490
@Ejay490 4 года назад
Midwest Shred vlogs I’ve watched several videos prior to getting one. I usually get out of the boot by twisting my heel inward. The bindings are great. I love the concept and I’m not going back to the traditional strap binding. My only concern is that the toe hook will wear out quickly and have to buy another binding 2-3 seasons later. For how much they cost. I hope they last long

Emmanuel Gacusan i totally hear you brother. I’m not sure why your front foot is wearing out that fast. If I were you, I would shoot Burton a picture of it to see what they say. I have a feeling they’ll take care of that for you if they think there’s a problem.

Brad Adult grab the board by the high backs just like you would with a normal binding. Get the rear cleat in first on your front foot. Hold the toe edge of the board with your hand so that you can snap the front cleats in. Then get in with your back foot. I can show this in another video.

Even if I purposely tried hitting someone’s lever on the chairlift, it’s not going to be easy.

Adam yes you can. When you pull the release lever, it stays up. You just need good balance since you have to turn your back foot to release from the front cleats. If you don’t get it right, the back cleat will lock back in. It’s doable though.

Nice tips. I would add: 1.check if your pants are (still) clipped in the shoe, as catching the pants in the main binding will result in torn pants in the calf area if you dont recognise it (speaking from experience). Usually the click will be much harder to get in and stiffer (thats what she said), so if thats the case,doublecheck before descending. 2. Any tips fro steping on while moving? I still find myself too distracted looking at the binding. Usually works with skating speeds, but chairlift exits are still bit too fast. Just my personal experience so far: I still find that my Photon Ions are too loose, even though my size is perfect. I keep on restrapping them quite often (irritating, exactly why my friends discouraged me from getting BOAs and the pull strap). Question for you: Do you think a forward lean angle would help me gain better control of the board? I still fell to much "idle" angles

Just got a set of Ion Step Ons delivered and first impressions are they are great! Just to follow up on the boot sizes. I had a pair of Burton Boa Concords 10.5 and they were a tiny bit big for me but the size smaller 10 was too small, (so very marginally too big), they never gave me any problems. The 10.5 Ion Step in boot in absolutely perfect. I had read that some people were finding the step on boots smaller and I have found the same thing. It is very very marginal but they definitely seem that way. It's the first time I have experienced Speed Zone laces. First impression is that the Boa is better for fine adjusting but I will see how they go. The Ion boot feels nice and stiff. That's the way I like them. Will be interesting to see how a stiff boot goes with a binding with quick response, might be too sharp for me as the consensus seems to be that the binding acts like it's very stiff with fast response especially heal to toe? I'm sure i'll get used to it either way, or play with the boot settings to compensate. I have had the boots on for about an hour and I have started to feel a little pressure on my left pinky where the boot has the connecting point on the side. I have heard this can be uncomfortable. I hope it doesn't get worse when riding. I had a set of Burton SI bindings about 16 years ago and they were useless. Ever since I have totally ignored anything that sounds like a new step in binding... Until now. First test (at home) of the new step on design and mechanism makes me think that this new design could be a game changer, it feels really good, they seem to have sorted out any problems with snow/ice build up on the boot, at least to the point where the system will be engaged and rideable. If they ride as well as people have said then I can't see any reason why the majority of people wouldn't use them over a traditional binding. We might even start to see them as standard on rental boards etc... I will let you know how I get on when I get to the Alps in a couple of weeks! Thanks for the vlogs they have been a big help to my decision making!

Hi Singh Tran, I have the Photon step on, size 10.5. Ok, I had worn my boots around the house initially (about a half hour) and had pressure on the outter side of my left foot.I ride goofy! I had thick socks on. I usually ride with thin socks. I put on thick socks to give it a little more stretch knowing my feet are a little wider. I stepped on my board and just manipulated my foot around for about another 2hrs with thin socks this time. No issues! Note that there is a break in period on all boots. Especially with the Photon boot being very stiff, I'd say it's gonna take about 6-7 full day rides to break them in. I've ridden in my boots 3x ands it's gotten better. I also tried to get the Wide boot but Burton has had issues with production or getting them out and is pretty hard to find. But I heard they have them now?.I've heard that many riders are having issues with the pressure points on the outside of their foot. I hope this helps? I know..I was in the same predicament you are in and was unsure if I should take the chance. A good sport shop would let you return them if you have pain as long as you don't return the boot damaged or stink them up. You would know fairly quickly if they don't work out on the hill. Take care and have a safe season!

I have a question about the Burton Step on Boots. Do they fit true to size, I am a 10.5 or should I size down a half size because they will stretch a bit? This is what a Burton rep told me in SF. Thanks in advance

They fit true to size. I wear a 9 shoe and wear a 9 step on boot. I have one set of boots that I’ve used a ton. They’re broken in but still fit nice and snug. I have a buddy that has wide feet and he went one size up. No pains and loves his boots.

Normally I would agree with sizing down but from what I’ve seen, the people that wear tighter step on stuff, they’re the ones with foot pain.

@@themidwestshredder Thanks man! I bought a half size smaller and may regret it!

Are our toes supposed to touch the end of the boot? in the half size smaller my toes touch the end even when I bend my knees. In the true to size 10.5 they dont touch. which is best?

@@deanol.1252 my toes lightly touch the front but not too much. I wouldn’t go too tight on these. If you put them on inside the house and walk around, you should be able to tell if they’re going to work. If they’re snug but they’re still comfortable you should be good. If your toes are a little curled up and you’re uncomfortable, go up a size.
