Crowds gathered in Twickenham after a bus caught fire following a mechanical fault.

No injuries have been reported.

Unfortunatly diesels do catch fire too! Such fine tolerances of the fuel system and high pressure too ive experienced this myself as a hgv mechanic.many bus fires are due to fuel leaks unfortunatly,but ev's are far much worse 😢

Diesel buses do catch fire as well. One I was driving nearly caught fire, but I spotted it just in time. Difficult to say what had triggered it but a load of dirt that had accumulated on the back of the firewall in the engine bay was glowing orange. I put it out with the fire extinguisher and called the fire brigade. What made me look in the first place was that the engine had suddenly stalled approaching a roundabout for no obvious reason, so I went to check. Have known other diesel buses catch fire as well. Usually it's caused by electrical faults, not the diesel aspect of it. We had another one where it spread so quickly from first being spotted that the driver didn't even switch off the engine when he pulled up and got the passengers out before jumping out himself. The bus was burnt down to the seats and the heat was so great that the fan blades on the cooling fan all melted and flew off as it was spinning round. the engine kept running through the whole thing and the fire brigade only stopped the engine after they'd put the fire out when they could get close enough.

About 15 years ago, I was driving home in the evening in Dresden, Germany, on a rather old MAN articulated bus. The route is quite steep uphill, normally only the tram runs there, but because there was construction work on the route again, only replacement transport with (often slightly older) buses was running. I was the only passenger on the bus and sat at the very back near the engine and could hear how the engine was noticeably struggling, even though the bus wasn't going that fast. That seemed strange to me and I informed the Dresden Transport Company (DVB). A few months earlier, I reported that the rear of a Solaris articulated bus was bouncing hard during the journey, causing the chassis to jolt. The DVB then informed me that the chassis was broken and, because my report had prevented engine damage, they thanked me with a private tour of the depot, where I was even allowed to drive a Solaris articulated bus myself. I hoped that I had saved another bus with my report, but unfortunately I found out from the media that about 1 or 2 weeks later a bus burned out at the Grosser Garten in Dresden. I looked at the pictures, it was exactly the bus that I had reported, whose engine was running so badly and terribly loudly. I (as a passenger) did what I could...

@@RolfSchreiter outstanding effort you made there. I'm surprised they took any notice of you at all. Often drivers frustrations with engineers (ok, let's call them fitters) would over flow. One bus i repeatedly warned that it wasn't making the right noise and it sounded as though there was some knocking on one cylinder. This was repeatedly denied, until the day it threw a rod through the block, meaning that the expensive engine block was now scrap instead of being repairable. I got sacked by Arriva for blowing the whistle about poor maintenance, and the tribunal agreed with me.

@@herseem it sounds bad. Hope you have a better employer now! - I shared my observations about the buses with both the driver and the DVB telephone hotline. The DVB are very committed, always have a relatively modern fleet, and are among the transport companies with the highest customer satisfaction every year in Germany, and not without reason!

Doesnt appear to be an electric bus, just checked registration and its diesel, makes a change from usual EV fires

According to one insurer, EVs are 20 times less likely to catch fire compared to ICE vehicles. Plenty articles online to back this up.

‘Usual EV fires’ You mean, usual liquid fuel fires?
@Thatspuremental
@Thatspuremental 5 дней назад
@@EVMan298 well this probably wasn’t started by liquid fuel considering the heat you need to catch deasel on fire is high so most likely somethings created friction causing exsessive heat
@EVMan298
@EVMan298 5 дней назад
@@Thatspuremental It could be a lubricant leak? A fuel leak onto something very hot? I just don’t like the narrative out there that it ‘must be EV’ because the fire is out of control and the evidence is overwhelmingly against what willtucker2774 has typed.
