You are literally freaking awesome... there are very little information on doing what you are doing trust me I have looked it up LOL. And half the people are nowhere near as close as you are. In making it look professional...

Thanks, I agree, very little info on slideouts so I decided I'd just have to wing it, seems to have worked out OK., if you decide to proceed with your own slideout project let me know and I can pass on a few tips I've learned by doing it, maybe a few things I'd do differently

Ya.... I saw the one where he cut the frame of the school bus.... made me cringe, hopefully he did something to reinforce the frame after he cut it... never saw anything more about it

I wanted to ask you do you have a blueprint for the stretch and the slides that you are constructing, or anything else you can provide in a printed format? I would appreciate it. thank you for your hard work its been quite helpful so far. Johnny
@JamesEDennison
@JamesEDennison 7 лет назад
Ha.... the blueprints are all in my head, just make it up as I go along, well 25 years of fabrication experience doesn't hurt either I guess, pretty much everything I have is in these videos, I'd be happy to answer any questions though

James E Dennison Hi James I'm building a rv project . it's not simple can you answer this question ? 1.when you fasten the two x four steel beam ( the housing for the slider) do you cut into the c channel of the chassis or weld it directly on top of the c channel top ? I have been watching your work for 6 months on a when I have time to really study them I am building a 38 ft. class A however , it now has a class Cab on the front I it's settings over the c channel . just behind where the end of its structure is that's where I'll place my forward slider ,the the middle , then the end piece it will be 24 ft and will be on both sides to gain 4ft of extension x 2 at approx 7.68 plus the 8 feet that will give me 15 ft .68 of rv right to left for 24 ft please James let me know the answer or a method . I'm starting by doing o all I can to the demo for not much h funding raised to date for a whole lot of steel need soon W .Eric

Have't seen you for a while, but what a result. This slide can carry horses man! Can you get it lined up to the outside wall, it will be bending a bit Are you gonne do it powered, or slide it out by hand?
@JamesEDennison
@JamesEDennison 8 лет назад
I am going to use hydraulics to operate the slideouts.... I have the inside wall constructed now and I will show how I get it all lined up in the next video..... thanks for watching..... I appreciate everyone's kind words.... it helps keep me motivated

This for the most part answerd ALL my questions. I may have missed it but I was wondering if and how you addressed the sides of the bolts holding the inner rail wheels from hitting the sides of the outer rails (sleeve). In other words do you have something to keep those sliding rails from moving side to side as they go in or out?
@jeffp7776

Never mind I was so excited to see this build I didn't see some one already ask this question. I'm building a small slide out for a mobile pizza truck. This is so much of a Time saver not having to reinvent the wheel.. Thank you for posting all of this.

James did the bolts that travel inside the tube give you any resistance problems? It seemed like they might rub the walls inside.
@JamesEDennison
@JamesEDennison 4 года назад
No... I adjusted them to give 1/16" clearance on each side so they don't cause any problems, they just keep the tube centered to within 1/8" … seem to be working fine

I'm damn well impressed..................keep it up. by chance. I can figure out the blueprint (fabrication part) but by chance do you have a parts list? I'm a sure anyone who has commented on it could use it if they had it.
@JamesEDennison
@JamesEDennison 7 лет назад
Not really, the wheels I used are in one of the comments already listed for this video.... just have to read through them to find them
@thechumpsbeendumped.7797
@thechumpsbeendumped.7797 4 года назад
I’m not being a downer coz I love the idea and would like to build one myself, but are 4 wheels needed at the end of the sliding arm? All the weight of the outside wall is going to keep the top wheels in contact with the top of the retaining tube until it’s all the way in, so one lower wheel would suffice. Also the end wheel should be at the top to give it more leverage/support, the lower wheel could be inboard a couple of feet and still work as needed. Are there any experts out there that could advise please?
@JamesEDennison
@JamesEDennison 4 года назад
You are correct, when the slideout is out, my concern was when the slideout is in and traveling down the road, I wasn't sure how much jumping around they were going to do so I installed 2 wheels per arm, they are only rated for 150 lb. each, cost 5 bucks each and took 15 minutes to install so I decided to err on the side of caution.... thanks for your comment

James E Dennison Hi James Thanks for your reply. Compared to some I’ve seen yours looks extremely solidly built. 1.How are you weather sealing it? 2. How are you going to adjust it should it need to be tweaked for alignment? 3. Are you doing another video about it?
@JamesEDennison
@JamesEDennison 4 года назад
There are 107 videos on my channel at this point.... I dont remember the numbers but there are videos on sealing and the cable drives I used allow for adjustment... there are plenty of follow up videos on the slides.... they are working very nicely so far.... not a lot of miles on it yet so time will tell... I'll update if I run into any significant problems... I also did a video on things I would do differently was I to do it again.... I'll probably do another one of those defore it's finished 🤪🤪🤪

Great job! im wondering how you are keeping the slides from moving side to side. it looks like the framing should keep from moving but just wondering if you did something else to it.
@JamesEDennison
@JamesEDennison 7 лет назад
the 3"x4" slide tubes have adjustable guides in them, if you watch one of the videos, can't remember which one, you can see them in the tube, the swing arms tend to keep it all centered too as the weight on them seem to center it all automatically
@jeffp7776

Jason Heffler I asked the same question before I saw yours. Did you find which video he shows the guides in? If so could you let me know. Thank You.

PLEASE CAN YOU TELL ME WHAT SIDE WHEELS YOU BOUGHT FOR THE SLIDES?
@JamesEDennison
@JamesEDennison 7 лет назад
the 4 wheel assembly in the 2"x3" tubing are 1.5"x3" wheels with ball bearing axles, the larger wheels in the 3"x4" tubing are 2"x4" also ball bearing axles

I have been looking but can not find a link to the wheels used. Can you please post or re-post where to get them from. Thanks.
@JamesEDennison
@JamesEDennison 7 лет назад
they are rigid caster wheels, I just took the original mounts off them, In Canada we have a store called princess auto..... kind of a farm supply store, I got them there but any store like that would have them, The Large ones on the outer edge supporting the cage are 4"x2" and the smaller ones in the slide arm are 1"x3" sealed bearing caster wheels, hope this helps, depending where you are you can go to princessauto.ca and order online

Does anyone know what company could install or sell slide rooms for RVs? Thanks
@JamesEDennison
@JamesEDennison 4 года назад
Liftco is the only company I'm aware of that sells slide out kits to the public... you still have to build the walls and roof but at least it will get you started, I don't know of anyone offering slideout installations into an existing motorhome, though there my be some.... link is liftcoinc.com/product/glide-outs/wall-kit-styles/ hope this helps

can I bother you again to ask you, What is the load capacity of the wheels? thanks for your help.
@JamesEDennison

the larger 4"x2" are 350 lb. ea. and the smaller 1"x3" are 150 lb. ea.
@britisheventcateringandbar1935
NICE JOB DID YOU USE SOLID WHEELS, As soft wheels make it hard to roll as I found out, also I put a flat plate on the end of the slide out so it went right home good job

@JamesEDennison
@JamesEDennison 5 лет назад
Hi Randy.... Ok, I got the wheels from a company in Canada called Princess Auto, they are basically wheels for warehouse carts and the like, they are 4" and 3" ball bearing greaseable wheels, I imagine you could find something similar on Amazon, they have a hard solid rubber wheel rather than plastic as I think the rubber will absorb vibration and be quieter when traveling down the road , Princess auto has a website www.princessauto.com, they might ship to where you are.... not sure
