Lilly and Assistant Chief Brewer are here to make sure you're a bus stop safety pro! Did you know that the biggest danger to students isn’t while they're on the bus, but when they’re approaching or leaving it? That’s why it's important for everyone-drivers, parents, and students-to be aware of bus stop safety rules.
Yellow flashing lights mean the bus is preparing to stop. Slow down and get ready to stop. Red flashing lights and extended stop arms mean the bus is stopped for students to get on or off. You must stop your vehicle until the red lights stop flashing, the stop arm is retracted, and the bus begins moving again before continuing on your way.
Remember, it's important to stop for school buses! Failing to do so could result in a fine of up to $1,250, and repeated offenses might even lead to losing your driver’s license! So remember, when you see a school bus stopping, make sure YOU stop, too!
