Wow ! This was a great opportunity to revisit my boyhood. I remember going on holiday with my Mam and Dad to Rhyl or Blackpool in the late 50’s and early 60’s in these wonderful coaches. As a little boy they were so shiny and impressive and it was such a thrill to ride on them. They were so beautifully designed and looked sleek and elegant incorporating real craftsmanship. They were great days.

When I was at secondary school we were taken by coach. Normally coaches that were at the end of their working life, several of which were featured here. Bring back good memories of the sixties.

These buses remind me of my school bus too… at Hunstanton Secondary Modern, buses, (just like these), to take the kids home to their respective villages… c1968

Very enjoyable video. I can remember our school coaches very well. Our local operator used an all Duple fleet during my school years around 1965 to 1975. As I remember these were Bella Vegas, the majestic six wheeled Vega Major (my favourite). They also operated what looked the same as the Bella Vega, but with an inward opening front door, it even retained the same iconic ‘ sloping window’ design as per Bella Vega. It had the chromed name Marauder in the same place and letter style as the Bella Vega. During the last few months of my school years, the company began using the futuristic looking Duple Viceroy? I still preferred the Vega Major! Back in 1967, Santa bought me a Dinky Toys Vega Major, complete with flashing lights and working steering. Happy days.

Yes, school coaches. We got them to go swimming (a pet hate of mine) the coach made up for it, and then they built a swimming bath nearby.

@@barryhumphriesinc.broughto3098I hated swimming too. The swimming trips were done by a different company operating Plaxton Panorama coaches.

One I recognized ...at 1:18... a coach registered in Great Yarmouth (EX 9850) - about mid-50's. And again at 1:42 (EX 9200). Another at 1:58 (CEX 200), and at 3:52 (GEX 780). In those days, Great Yarmouth was a separate vehicle registration authority, independent of Norfolk.

Great to see so many buses/coaches from my youth. Particularly interested in the Western Welsh buses featured.

This is excellent. Unfortunately I can only identify a small fraction of these even though I was around some of this era as a child but I was always interested in unusual buses and coaches, particularly Ribble which operated out of Manchester where I lived then. I was, and still am, fascinated by the Ribble White Ladies which were double deck coaches. I can't recall seeing any others of this category at that time until the Gay Hostess Atlanteans came along. I think that there may be only one of the White Ladies left. Nice to see that none of these photos show vehicles plastered over with advertising or the name of the operator.

I agree about the adds, I can remember a lot of them, but not the makes of all. Thanks for watching.

We used to catch one of these (at 1:00) to travel from Grays to our holiday at Butlin's Clacton in the 50s. It was considered a real treat and we knew out week's holiday had begun. Happy days.

1960s Bedford bus is the most beautiful bus, had a few here in Cape Town and always loved the 4 wheels in the front.

There was fallowfield and Britten which ran from London on various tours around the homecounties. Also Henry coaches we used to get to Clacton in Essex. The big one was grey_green and orange luxury. Based at Stamford Hill north London. 🙂😉☕👍

Shall never forget moquette seats hot with sunshine or the un-wordly orange glow through the tinted skylights.....Bedford SB! Then came the greenhouse Duple Vegas on VAL chassis. After that Dad bought a car and holidays weren't quite the same.
