Hi Geoff! I finally found a Dibley's "Falling stars" on eBay last fall! What a BEAUTY! Right now she is LOADED with blooms! I also took some leaf cuttings to insure I have more of this in the future. I love your strep videos, sorry you're having issues with snails. Luckily I don't have that indoors but I DO have occasional issues with spider mites. Big pain in the you know where! I find the so called "special" grow lights to be a lot of nonsense. I use regular shop lights. Either with T5 tubes or LEDS. As long as they are "Daylight" rated they work great! And they are inexpensive too.

Great news Tom - it's a lovely hybrid and very floriferous. I'm still not convinced it's only the snails hassling my streps - they seem strangely lacklustre this year. I'll give them a feed and see if they start moving. And yeah I intend buying some more cheap lights when I get round to it. We're not after maximum crop yield here - just enough to improve the light!

Great info on those snails, luckily not suffered yet ! Have one Strep, do the regular with the Dibleys feed . Taken some cuttings as well will see how they progress.

Thanks. I've found with the feeding tablets that you can overdo it. Dibley's recommend one tablet per month - but in my case that led to more foliage and fewer blooms. Might just be my environment though - but worth watching out for. I now wait till they 'look' like they need feeding i.e. leaves fading to paler green.

I still don’t have a Streptocarpus, and I lost some plants this year because of health issues, so looking forward to getting some new and interesting plants now that I have a bit of space…I never heard of bush snails, (I do have an apple snail in with my Betta) I’ll have to look them up, although there are no snails inside or out here thankfully! 🐌

I think they're tropical and won't survive outside in the UK - but are quite happy in my greenhouse unfortunately. After making the video I discovered they don't actually go beneath the soil - but can easily work through moss to get to orchid roots. They're also happy on the media surface so hopefully the drench will have got to the little blighters.

Hi. Looking online says that Bug Clear Ultra (acetamiprid) should work on snails, but it's best to use something with snails on the label. Something like a bait snail killer containing iron phosphate will work longer. But it looks like you have got it all figured out.

I haven’t seen one since but then they’re tiny little things! So I’ll keep my eyes peeled and try something else if it doesn’t work. At least I know I’ll have no vine weevil larvae in the pots, as they love to eat strep roots!
