BUSHCRAFT LOUE-CAMP - CATCHING AND COOKING PIKE OVER OPEN FIRE - watching Daubenton´s bats

A short autumntrip in the woods of Sweden. Checking out a new location and it looks very promising. Plenty firewood, good water and as you will see in the video there are fish in the lake. It has been raining for days so everything is wet as you will see when we light the fire.
On this trip a had a friend with me.
You could say that this viedeo is a Hudson-bay-stop. A Hudson-bay-stop is that the first day on a longer journey break for camp quit fast. That is to find out if anything is missing and you are able to go back and get it. On this trip the attachment for microphone was broken so the mic keeps on getting in the way of the shot.
Building a tradition camp with a shelter called loue. It is common in Finland and its basically half of a tipi/lavu. It should be used with an open fire to get the benefits of it. Important is to check the direction of the wind so you don’t get smoke in the shelter. The wind should pass in front of the shelter. If it blows over the shelter the turbulence will push the into the shelter, the same if the wind blows directly into it.
When I find a place for camp I always lay down to get a feeling if the ground is good enough to sleep on. The I mark were my head is going to be with my hat.
I make tentpegs and a middlepole of the same tree.
I take away the toplayer where the fireplace going to be and the I can put it back and it will look nice when I leave the site. I make sure too remove roots. Then this time I make a platform of greenwood. This was a small tree that the beaver had taken down.
In the evening after I had my coffee we look at the Daubenton´s bat that flew over the water.
In the morning just after I woke up I caught a pike. You can see one way to prepare it for eating. I want to take avay the slime on it first, then I get rid of scale after that I gut it and last clean it. I seasoning it with salt and pepper on the inside. I cook it directly on the amber and coals. They are clean and it is on the outside of the skinn so it never touch the meat anyway.
When putting the fire out I use much water, dig down so the water can penetrate the ground and I feel with my hand and fingers so there is no hotspots. When I am sure the fire is out I place the top layer on again.
How to make cowboycoffee
There are many ways to make and everyone has it best and “correct” way of doing it. I do it as my grandmother did it.
1 Use cold water
2 Put coffee like a pyramid, it should be enough that a fat forestmouse could run over it without sinking.
3 Bring it to boil. I prefer to this slowly. Take from heat immediately when it starts to boil. Then put it back over so it boils again, do this again. So total 3 small boils. Then leave it to rest and cool down a little.
The one who makes the coffee should have the first cup otherwise he/she gives away their happiness.
OBS: If you want to practice high impact bushcraft activities like shelter / fort building, cut living or dead standing trees, damage the nature in any form in Scandinavia, you need to have Landowner permission or own the land. Please always observe local fire prohibitions and forecasts to prevent forest fires. Finally, always be respectful of the forest and its inhabitants, take your trash with you.

Very nice, and with the helpful description so that we understand that you where simply not exhausted when you lied down, but just had to connect with the ground to find a good sleeping spot . Very nice to you continue this channel in the same spirit. Showing "the old-school way", and that one does not need expensive super-light equipment to enjoy the outdoors and bushcraft.

Moments of friendship and therapy in the woods Tobben. I just realized today why i have not seen anything from Ric Nagualero for a long time. Made a search and found out why, i'm really sorry, my condoleances. A true artist in many aspects, learned alot and got inspired by his videos. What a beautiful thing to bring his work alive thru You. Keep it up Tobben and develop this in your way and a great way to get outdoors. Ut på tur aldrig sur 💪🤠🔥
