I read Hagakure when I was 12. Book of Five Rings after that and then everything you would think of after. No one ever "got me" after that. Samurai were like knights and stoics mixed ten times over. One should investigate this. :edit: Let people know the title means "In the shadow of leaves".
If you like The Last Samurai and Bushido, then you should check out Ghost Dog, The Way of the Samurai, it’s an Assassin from the streets with a code of Bushido.
Great Movie bro I completely agree with you. Huge thumbs up, hope you are well and having a great weekend. So sorry we haven't been able to visit you for a while we have been busy moving house. Awesome wisdom brother. But great to catch up with you again. Very entertaining as always. Stay safe and catch up again real soon.
It's so amazing how more and more often your videos talk about things I started exploring few weeks or months earlier. This one hitting the home the closest so far. I don't know where there's an increased interest in the topics of samurai, Feudal Japan and Bushido (Ghost of Tsukushima hypa?), but I have reconnected with my long forgotten passion and fascination for those themes I have had as a teenager and young adult, which started when I started training Aikido and Iaido. Hagakure is on my top priority to-read list. I'm currently exploring the life of Musashi in more detail ("Miyamoto Musashi - His Life and Writings" by Kenji Tokitsu and "The Lone Samurai - The Life of Miyamoto Musashi" by William Scott Wilson). I even made plans to re-watch The Last Samurai, because I remember loving it as a teenager. I'm not sure what's my point, probably that you are one of last few youtubers I watch regularly (removing all unnecessary distractions from my life) and I love the fact that you covered this topic. PS Right before announcement of your Discord channel I thought "It would be swell if Captain Sinbad had his own DIscord channel so we can discuss ideas presented in the video" :) PS2 Like I said before, your sense of comedy and delivery is getting better and better with each video. Amazing to see you grow and get inspired by that growth. Don't stop.
Yes sensei I also need to get myself in order. Atleast in waking up early and doing some sort of warm up before work. Maybe I should get Bushido on my Kindle.
Hagakure is amazing! I read it this Autumn, as well as Budō Shoshinshū. They are both written at about the same time but the authors had different perspectives on The Way, it worth reading as well. Haha that's a pleasant feeling knowing someone you admire is reading the same literature as you do.
Man I didn't know you uploaded a new vid! I think maybe on the day that you uploaded i brushed over the vid since the thumbnail didn't have your face. Just an interesting observation, keep it up love what you do man!

I loved reading samurai books when i was younger. The culture was so interesting and disciplined. Finding a strict routine whilst not making it completely miserable as well. We can all learn from the way of the bushido. Nippon Banzai! 🇯🇵
I know i haven't commented in your past videos. i have been busy. stuck. busy. thinking. idk just overall confused about life in general. i thought i had it all figured out but life does'nt work that way. anyway am quitting my job to become a fulltime youtuber and just wanted to let you know that, being an indian origin gem of an youtuber, you are a great inspiration for me. thankyou Nikhil. They say 'dont stop untill your idols become your rivals' - well am about to walk that path. see you in the field brother.
Oh man, I'm late. #spicygang. Hey Cap, I've been following you for some time and I've been on the path (the path that Jocko talks about) but sometimes I also fell off. The things you do help me keep myself inspired and disciplined. I know that you're not perfect and you also have moments of weakness. But I just want to say thank you for the things you do. The good things. And I wish that you keep doing the good things even if you fall off (I should be saying this to myself lol).
Last Samurai is known to be historically inaccurate, so I wouldn't think much into it. As for, "being calculative is cowardice", lol, that's exactly how your opponents, competitors would want your approach to be
Dude random note, I would love for you to make a video on Breaking bad. Like a Gus fring analysis on what makes him so commanding. But great video as always man👍👍
Interesting that you wear the Kara, Cap, as many men and women do who identify As Sikh or Hindu (including non-practicing). I mention it because your channel is all about examining all aspects of your life and the pursuit of self-improvement... So I wanted to know do you wear the Kara as something you've always worn (probably since childhood) or have you reflected on the meaning of the Kara in the Sikh tradition and have decided that you accept its meaning as something that is significant to your person. 🙏🏼👍🏼
Would u consider filming a parody of sorts w/ regard to the new Peterson/Red Skull thing. Could be cool I guess. P.S. Dawg I'm surprised how we like the same movies guess its coz of the whole self improv thing but damn that's interesting. Try Peaceful warrior not the biggest budget and it shows but has some cool stuff in it.
check out the go-rin-no-sho by miyamoto musashi. it's really interesting too because it addrresses the individual not the collective (unusual for asian "philosophy")
If we're talking about bushido, go check out Yukio Mishima. Mostly him talking about personal growth. P.S Sinbad, your videos are looking good day by day.
discord is cool and all but have you given any thought to developing an autonomous state with a community of like minded individuals dedicated to The Way. That way we can all hold each other.....accountable.
Funny, I wrote down Bushido for a video idea about a year ago. But then again ... you’ve been two years .... you are on your path and mine intersects. I dig .... thank you pal.
Just came here to say the lack of moderation has resulted in your server becoming a place where racism, holocaus denial is being posted. I’ve sent you dms on discord about this but have gotten no reply. You can’t just have an unmoderated discord server with no rules, it never ends well...
The samurai are so fascinating, shogun Japan too, to this day Shogun Total War was a key part of my childhood teaching me about these wonderfully stoic and albeit violent people. They embody self control and discipline while being dangerous, what Everyman man should strive to be. Capable yet reserved, and be able to step up to the plate when life calls for it. Whether you’re a samurai, a knight, a warrior, a husband. Be capable, be strong , be honorable, do NOT be harmless, or find yourself a sheep being pushed around by the wolves.
Good fiction book suggestions: - inspiring, adventurous, self improvement lessons, and great stories too: 1) Louis Lamour’s “The Walking Drum” - I always wish a movie or series would be made from that story. Brings Moorish Spain in its hey day to glorious life. 2) Where The Red Fern Grows (if you remember it as a kid, forget that. Re-read it as an adult. It’s a revelation.). 3) The Hero’s Guide To Saving Your Kingdom. I love love love this series. So fun. So creative. So great. 4) The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. Again, Moorish Spain and life lessons, wisdom and adventure set in exotic ancient times.
I love the rain point. It reminds me of Marcus Aurelius and his technique of negative visualization. If you start your day knowing that things will go wrong, you'll be mentally prepared for anything and it won't throw you off. It's pretty amazingly complemented with the next point about being cool with dying and embracing the fact that it can happen at any point.
Yo YT has not been putting your videos in my subscription feed. I unfortunately don't have notifications on either due to phone notifications stifling my productivity. Just wanted to let you know so you might be able to let the rest of your audience know that this can happen
Hello sinbad, i am a big fan of you, look up to you and watch every video, but can you pls moderate your discord server, i found it to be a mess and honestly serves litlle purpose so far, thx in advance. Edit: the discord server is good now

The sad reality of modern man - hooked on Alcohol, women , porn. And ignoring meditation , workout , and most importantly embracing money with an immense supply of greed instead of as a tool to serve society as a whole.
hey hey hey... wait a minute. I've watched until the first idea. The idea struck me so good that I had to stop because I have an urge to read the book myself and then come back to this video. Can you tell me the exact version of this book? because I've seen there are many on amazon, and some of them have 200 pages and some have 600. Can you tell me the exact name of the book? Hagakure: what? and what year? Who are the exact writers? because there's always Yamamoto Tseunetomo and then one more.
