I have always told my staff that if they want a wage increase, do what I do and strive for your next position. Don't expect people to pay you more for doing the same job. Give yourself a raise by striving for that next step in your career.
@gregoryeverson741
@gregoryeverson741 6 лет назад
that doesnt always work, i worked at BK busted my ass, came in early, stayed late, came in on my days off, asked for 6month review raise, they said they cant afford it, so i started to slack, everytime the head manager asked for something, i asked for a raise
@bbardy3924

I think this guy is the problem. So if you strive for a decent pay and raise then leave youre company and go to one that values their employees
@bbardy3924
@bbardy3924 6 лет назад
I think that the real world , companies want the best from employees but arent willing to pay extra for more effort, Like you said you can work you're arss of and still not move up the ladder. Companies dont give a shit , once you have exhausted yourself they just hire someone new instead.
@jamisojo
@jamisojo 6 лет назад
I don't know what they were paying you, but certainly the job at BK has a range of pay. You are never going to make a lot of money there. You'd probably be better off jumping to another entry level job that actually pays money.
@jamisojo
@jamisojo 6 лет назад
They can only pay so much. That amount is about equal to 1. How much your effort increases their income, and 2. What they could hire someone for, to do the exact same thing you are doing. Wages are a market, like everything else. Taking orders quicker or with more accuracy and producing food quickly and accurately doesn't really create more profit. All that really matters is that they keep satisfying customers. The constraint they are under is how much food is ordered.

Hi. L.A. Sous Chef here. Can attest. The salad guy and the dishwasher have both been terminated. The new salad guy now washes dishes in between orders and doesn't leave until 12 am. We close at 9. Our sauté team now consists of me and our Chef is now the grill cook.

What democrats say: how can you raise a family on minimum wage? What i would say: why the hell are you having a family if you only make minimum wage?

I would also add why is government not doling out birth control for free? That is way cheaper than subsidizing the raising of a child.

nunya business myself I'm sick and tired of hearing these women whine and complain that they can't make enough money at their crappy part time job, meanwhile they're crapping out more and more fatherless babies. We need to stop welfare and start punching women for having kids when they can't afford them because it's no different than child abuse. If you can't afford to have a child then the child will suffer because the parents can't provide.

Forcing companies to pay more for a job that doesn't dictate its value. Also more money doesn't mean more value. When more things go up and less people by these things... Jobs will be cut! Wake up people!
@codyramey1036

Why would less people buy these things? IF people have more money they can buy more things. Even if prices rise a bit if its not a one to one ratio, which idk if it happens at a one to one ratio or not, then people can still afford to buy more things.

If there is a wage hike to fifteen dollars an hour, there will be repercussions. For fifteen dollars an hour I can hire a family man with children. Someone that I can depend on and will show up for work everyday. Now tell me, why would I want to hire some stupid little drugged up, pimply faced idiot for that money? There will be no more entry level jobs. Sorry kids, but that's the cold hard facts.

The corporations will simply shift their investments to technology like self service kiosks rather than pay a person 15 dollars an hour to simply take money and place an order. Unemployment will rise due to this shift and justifiably so. You either make your own raise by increasing your skill set, or you will be at the mercy of politicians pan handling for votes on promises they can't keep.

Apart from “taking money” Up front workers are also generally the ones who do the cleaning. Self service kiosks are the future but the human worker is still going to be a large part of the business. These computers need servicing and there are hundreds of other factors that a “robot” or computer can’t do yet.
@55Quirll
@55Quirll 5 лет назад
Brett O'Berry You are correct. The big corporations will scale down and install Kiosks to take orders and then you go and pick up. The Mom and Pop places will have to cut back on employees, cut down on the hours the employees they have or as a last resort go out of business. This is what happens when Politicians put their nose in where it doesn't belong and 'I am entitled to higher wag if welders get it' attitude. You want a higher wage/salary get the skills that will entitle you to ask for the higher wage/salary.

$15 is a common salary for skilled assembly workers. Is it fair to them? Are they going to want more money now?
@koloth5139
@koloth5139 7 лет назад
There is no trickle up effect. People already at $15 aren't going to get a $7.50 increase. Companies can't afford to increase wages like that particularly when they aren't required by law. More over I have been right at that cusp when it happened. I worked for a company for 4 years slowly getting raises a couple dollars over minimum. Then minimum was raised to where I was I didn't get a raise. All the people around me that hadn't been there as long as I had got a raise. But I had to start over at minimum. Thankfully I was ready to move on to a real job and start making real money. But raising the minimum does nothing for those already making more.
@Joskemom
@Joskemom 6 лет назад
Raising the min to 15 will be chaos to a fast food owner who already have people making 12 14 and 17 because they will want more money if the least valuable to the eatery is now making close to their wage. The 12 and 14 an hr are going to want to be paid more than that guy who is at minimum and don't have the skillsets they have.

It's a pisser when you have worked your way up from meager wages to something a little more substantial, and a NO BODY comes in and receives the same pay for NO extra efforts. Just the government saying to kick it up a notch. Glad you have found yourself a new company to work for. I was an employer for 38-yrs and most of my employee's made far ABOVE minimum wages. I was LUCKY, because I had GREAT employee's. All of my employee's make MORE than $15.00 per hr. They are also VERY SKILLED.

Their are skilled jobs that people get paid stuff all. People say do other jobs instead but if it wasn't for some jobs , other people wouldn't be able to get a good education. The current craze with the left is raising the minimum wage. The mechanism for that movement is fast food workers. Agitating workers to strike, demanding raises. At the same time the left is complaining that fast food is unhealthy and should be banned. If both of these goals are realized, fast food workers will be paid $15 an hour at restaurants that don't exist.If the minimum wage is raised to $15, Will I (at $16) get a comparable raise. Or will my lifestyle be degraded by the rise in prices to cover the cost of $15 workers?

Market forces as well as skill impact the wage. If there were lots of excess welders and no minimum wage then your 22 an hour could drop dramatically. There's also the local cost of living to take into account. At the same time unskilled retail work could go up to 15 or more without any laws to induce it or even unions. I've seen fast food places offer $15 starting rate years ago in some cities. I was paid $13 an hour plus bonuses as a cashier almost 20 years ago because unemployment was so low they couldn't get anyone where I was living.

More money doesn't mean more value of the dollar, it would only cause an inflation of the dollar. What is needed is a deflation; making the value of money increase, not to water down the value by printing out more bills.
@Mutlap
@Mutlap 7 лет назад
Correct, the business must (1) reduce cost, increase prices. Reduction of hours per employee, reduce number of total employees. Increase price of product or services. Or a combination of both. Price drives demand, higher prices decreases demand. Government plays a round in the stagnation of wages by slowing economy by the spending deficits created by presidents like 0bama. Ten trillion spent in ten years takes that money out of the economy.
@SKF358
@SKF358 7 лет назад

@KevinSmith-qi5yn
@KevinSmith-qi5yn 7 лет назад
Very true. It's quite simple to explain why there is an inflationary effect from minimum wage increases. The same amount is produced, but the amount to produce it goes up. This isn't how you grow an economy. An economy only grows when there is an increase in productivity. After all that is what economics is, the use of resources to produce things that people need. The money involved is only a means to facilitate trade.

McDonalds has introduced an automated order taking device - I don't like it! If a "robot" is going to take my order, then a "robot" may have the privilege of eating the meal - I certainly won't!!!!!!!!! Eventually, across the fast food industry, the entire food production process may be automated. I'll go back to an old fashioned restaurant - with real people.

you believe in capitalism you say, but a person who owns a business and sacrifices to become wealthy and live his/her dream is a greedy fuck. You are a lib and you don't even know it. And those who join the military know that one day maybe, might be their turn to fight even if it is not a just war. Wanting to be rich and have whatever they want is what makes a majority of people get up in the morning and strive for. These people asking for $15/hr to flip a burger are the ones who are really going to suffer in the end when they don't have a job to go back to. It's not meant to be a career, but a stepping stone, and if you are too dumb/lazy to move up then shame on you. And before you say it is not that easy to do better, I supported my mother and younger sister from when I was 15 to 23 all the while going to school and learning a trade. Now I am 39 and I own 5 homes and a couple nice cars all because I broke my ass since I was a child basically. These people have the same opportunities if not more since my family did not receive government subsidies like a majority of these people demanding more money do.

For all the people calling for a $15.00/hr minimum wage are against women and minorities. For anyone that is on the bottom rung of the wage ladder is going to be hurt the most. People that have little education or few skills will be let go just as soon as automated systems can be installed. As for fast food places or any business that have low skill jobs will put their workers out on the street just as fast as employers can install automated systems. A shift at McDonalds that has 20 to 30 people with go down to 4 to 6 people instead. The new crew will support the machines and be on hand to take care of special orders or problems. With the last minimum wage increase here in AZ I know of four businesses that have closed their doors that was an increase to $10.00/hr. The people that are protesting for $15.00/hr will find out that the real minimum wage is $0.00/hr.

And, for the glorified burger-flippers out there, all you're doing is paving the way for machines to come in and do your jobs, machines that won't be demanding higher wages for their low-skilled work, demanding time off, vacation time, health care, bargaining rights, etc., etc., etc. Have fun in the unemployment line, because that where you're headed.

Most places (voters) are going to laugh at a $15/hr minimum wage and it will never happen. Maybe, when years go by and a lot of inflation has happened, that minimum wage will come to everywhere. It is a ridiculous idea anyhow. 15/hr in rural Wyoming is a HUGE wage, compared to $15/hr in Manhattan. Every market should have their own minimum wage, if they should even have a minimum wage at all. Which really just kills jobs that people might want to do that is not profitable below minimum wage levels.

Then move. If you work fast food and live in San Diego, San Francisco, or in Manhattan, you are the one trying to afford an apartment you can't afford. If I invest in ownership of an apartment building, I expect that investment to earn a minimum percentage of what I invested every year. If it does not do so, I am going to invest in something else. That is why the rent is what it is. Apparently the other people there are satisfied with the price, otherwise they would move.

As a former business owner, there are only 3 possible outcomes. 1 I increase prices 2 I fire workers or 3 my business becomes less or negatively profitable(and I will close and invest elsewhere). In 2 out of three cases the"underpaid" now become the unpaid and in the third there costs go up negating the increase. Additionally, if my skilled works are now earning $20/hr they will demand a similar increase. These factors actually hurt the por and middle class the most.

The pro-increase people always point to McD's as their cash cow enemy. What about the small restaurants? Don't think they're immune from the effects of wage hike. People will tire of a $12 Big Mac, but the small places will be long gone by then, out of business. Then you won't have a choice except to stay home; then McD's will close and open a franchise in a non-$15 location. Wage hikers can't see more than ten seconds into the future.

Perhaps. We could lower the prices of things like rent and tax on gas. Perhaps we could look at the expenses that people have that are driving the 15/hr need. We should also look at industries where the number of next level jobs are decreasing due to electric connectivity and automation. It used to be great to start out a mi imum wage. And work ones way up to a manager. But that oathway is shrinking.

Minimum wage, adjusted for inflation, should be over $22 an hour by now. Productivity has raised dramatically since the 90s, yet wages have remained comically stagnant. Instead of passing the increased profits from increased productivity, employers just pocketed the extra money. Which has lead to this breaking point. This wasn't going to last forever. It's not a sustainable economic model. Instead of whining about having to may something closer to a living wage, be happy that you got away with paying employees nothing for so long.

Objection: Raising the minimum wage will hurt business and reduce employment. “No business which depends for existence on paying less than living wages to its workers has any right to continue in this country.” (1933, Statement on National Industrial Recovery Act) Objection: $10.10 an hour is too much, maybe $9. “By living wages, I mean more than a bare subsistence level - I mean the wages of a decent living.” (1933, Statement on National Industrial Recovery Act)

What the $15 people don't know is these restaurants aren't making tons of profits as most of them are individual franchises. Once you increase the bottom workers to $15, all the managers and other making more ALSO need the same percentage increase because managers will complain that they do more work for the same pay as entry level employees. Badly has probably never ran a business before.

I believe, from what I've seen here, or in another video, that they are not exempt. Which is ridiculous. ...obviously, that depends on what law is created. Im sorry but the minimum wage needs to be at a point where a person working full time, 40 hours a week, doesnt need Government benefits any longer. Thats at least $15.00 an hour most of the United States. In my state ,it makes more sense to NOT work if your not in the $20. hr range or better. Thats why there are so many young homeless men hanging on the streets getting high. If we want to change our society back to one that works, we need to follow Germany's model and keep wages higher , to give people an incentive to stay straight and get to work. Its part of being a civilized, first world society. Now at the same time, there is a big need to cut benefits to the bone and make it not worth panhandling etc.

Not every business can handle a $1 an hour raise every year and will go belly up ,I own 6 party/liquor stores ,a real estate company ,a construction high end kitchen & bath company and 3 self storage facilities, every business my family owns would collapse of we had to pay a forced wage 90% wage increase ,I would close every storefront the day the wage increase took effect & keep my bank account before I drained my savings & wound up broke 6 months later from paying insane wage hikes, on our self storage facilities I would convert all 3 into key card access & eliminate all except 1 employee who rented locker space for all 3 locations instead of offering personal services like security guards for the premises, I'd be forced to pay off my staff who helps customers pack their storage locker correctly and wrap valuable items for them . Nothing good will come of this except a dramatic increase in unemployment, which is exactly what Obama, Hillary, Bernie, Maxine Waters, Elijah Cummings and all democrats want ,they'd rather destroy our economy that see Trump succeed ,which he is doing better than Obama, Clinton or bush did & they can't stand it ,their willing to crush all of us to keep the swamp from being drained so they can keep ripping America off ,not 1 democrat politican has money problems .

Yes, there needs to be some adjustments upward for minimum wage workers, especially in high cost of living areas. However, $15 is too much for a burger flipper, or similar, unskilled position. When you factor in the loss of certain government handouts/assistance, minimum wage people may actually be worse off. We need a lot more government supported vocational training right after high school so people will never have to experience the minimum wage after age 18 or so.
