The return of Mariners baseball in Seattle is set to bring much-appreciated foot traffic to surrounding neighborhoods like Pioneer Square, which has been seeing a comeback itself in recent months. More: www.king5.com/...
I just went there today and man I had a Latte and it was so good! The owner is so friendly made me feel right at home. I had to take a Yellow Butterfly coffee bag home with me. Got to support small business! 🇵🇷👍
Seattle's Chinatown (International District) historically has always been economically robust. This is until the three things: the BLM riots, COVID and the homeless crisis decimated it.
There were no BLM riots or anything in this neighborhood. It was literally just covid affecting the visitor traffic. And the homeless "crisis" hadn't changed a bit but may have seemed more problematic lately since they were the only people there with the covid shutdowns.
@@clevername8832 Well first of all the homeless crisis in Seattle has exploded in spectacular fashion in just the last five years or so. And secondly the only reason Chinatown wasn't a substantial target of BLM is because there are no high-end products to be had. I've been here tweenty five years and know my town intimately.
In the same breath as we are having to move the bus stop on 3rd and pike cuz of crime , pioneer square is getting better ...lol with nothing new as far as policy 🙄 goes .. king 5 news is the sales team for Washington Democrats and Seattle City council 👏
Agree. It’s always been a tough area. I remember about 14 years ago they tried to turn it into an arts district, but that didn’t pan out. I was hopeful, but it’s just too overrun with homelessness and drug addicts. It’s sad bc It’s a beautiful area. Lots of old architecture and history. I think it’s how close it is to the waterfront AND all of the social services in the area. Not sure how to fix it, but it’s nice people keep trying.
In the 70’s ~ the blues and jazz clubs were hoppin’ ~ cops on horses, bicycles and driving around made the folks that frequented the clubs feel very safe. No cops = crime and filth everywhere. Up to the voters to decide what kind of Seattle they want.
I remember precovid. I was walking down the street and there was a shooting and murder like a few feet from me. And that didn't even make headline news lol.
@@debbY100 Another of it's fatal characteristics is the enormous prevalence of the big three drug-of-choice (M/H/C) products abundantly offered in the area. And yes the condensed social services aspect.
