Done mine I whiles ago. 2 of 4 where broken. One for a whiles and the other was broken on removal. Tried to get it out but it fell into cylinder. Wound engine over by hand and felt it jammed between cylinder and head. Pulled head off, the old broken tip had marked piston but seemed OK. Good thing I pulled head off anyway, pre com chambers were cracked but didn't damage head. Got head reconditioned with new pre com chambers, blocked egr and cleaned manifold. Replaced Injectors, fitted 3 inch turbo back exhaust, dp chip, wound boost up to 18psi with manual boost t and manual fuel cut defender to fool map sensor. Fitted egt sensor pre Turbo. Result = 30 - 40 % power and torque increase compared to even when it was new. Goes like a rocket.
This video saved me, just did the plugs in my 95 hilux in the states and finding information has been tough and no shops have ever seen a 1kz. Used to run rough on the cold start and blow lots of smoke until it warmed up but it runs like new now. Thank you!
Great video, thank you. Mine have been in for 16 years, 243,000 kms. I didn't realise how the tips would break off. I regularly service my vehicle, every 5,000 kms. Not blowing smoke, starts perfectly, happy with the engine overall, however, I better look into replacing them. Still running original water pump & a/c refrigerant, exhaust system, shocks. Car still tight. Auto oil & filter have been changed, no such thing as "sealed for life". Once again, thank you.
Exact thing happened to my 1kz at 350k kms. No 4 glow plug tip gone resulting in cracked head. A few marks on piston top, but not too bad, bore thankfully ok. Advice from a mechanic mate of mine : “you should probably replace your glow plugs every 100 thou or so”. Oh well, you live and learn. Replaced head and all still going well at 430k. Will be replacing glow plugs in another 20 thou. Great vid, keep em coming.

I just recently bought a hilux and the engine has been shaking for the first 2 min on cold start is that a common thing on these engines or should i be worried
