They all copied Dust In The Wind. 🚫⚠️🚫 JOKING! I grew up with my dad listening to Merle, Chet, & Jerry (Chet &Jerry) in the late '60s early '70s... and I started playing when I was 7. I once saw Buster do a fast, live demo of the differences in all three players. That was incredible! You can hear the obvious differences on their albums or when they played live on TV (Hee Haw)... and watching Buster play all three in a row was super cool and interesting... but seeing Buster slow it down and explain the differences in chords and WHY they were played is priceless. Anyone reading this 15 years after it was posted, please check out Buster's protege: Brooks Robertson. Buster took Brooks under his wing when Brooks was 11; Brooks's playing is sublime. He was awarded a full scholarship to Berklee School of Music after he'd already been playing with Buster live for years. He finished Berklee and graduated Summa CumLaude. Brooks is the rare master who is just as good at teaching as he is at playing-- and watching him play is like watching the late great Paco DeLucia play: they got /get so much obvious joy from playing guitar. Enjoy! Thank you for sharing this video. I thought I had all his lessons from this VHS. So grateful!
Tabs?? You've got to learn Travis picking. Buster used to teach 30 patterns to learn in order to play like this with ease. I highly suggest you look up Buster's protege: BROOKS ROBERTSON. He is just as good a Buster (although they have different personalities, so of course that comes through in the music. They're both equally talented, yet equally unique). Brooks teaches lessons on his RU-vid channel as well as on TrueFire. He has 6 DVD/download instructional videos, too. If you learn the basics of chord voicings and some of the picking patterns Buster took the time to teach to Brooks, it's be much easier than trying to learn this with tabs. I mean, you're playing bass, harmony, and melody all at once. Brooks is a FANTASTIC teacher. Look him up. You'll be playing like this in no time. (Look up how to play Jerry Reed's The Claw or something like that. Have fun!!)
