Buster Keaton was the greatest silent film maker, comedian, writer and director. He is more appreciated now than he was in his heyday. If the studios had left him to make his pictures even the early sound, he would have created more masterpieces.

True. He admitted that signing with MGM was the biggest mistake of his life. Even though his early talkies were actually popular at the box office, they took away most of his creative control & the scripts and films eventually suffered. Very sad.

Chuck Jones cited Buster as an influence, and Keaton's legacy is immeasurable. Chaplin said about Looney Tunes, "How can we compete? These guys don't have to stop to take a breath." And on the silent comic art, Chaplin mused "just when we got it right it was all over".

So he got 23, & Chaplin got 21 subtitles? Here’s a challenge to all you Buster Keaton fans out there with the means to do so; take one of his features, & cut the subtitle amount to less than 20.

Sometimes I think I laugh at Buster more from these later years(The Twilight Zone, Route 66)than at his classics.

100 years late but I have a serious crush on Sybil Seely. Wow, she is something else, and she doesn't have to say one word. Keaton is far better and more natural at his craft than Chaplin. I don't even like watching any of Chaplin's stuff but I can watch Buster over and over again.
