Busy Morning at Frosty Carlisle!

Class 807 under test

Over the last weekend Network Rail declared the River Derwent bridge just north of Workington station unsafe. Heavy flows in the river following all the recent heavy rain has undermined the piers. The line from Carlisle to Maryport and as far as the bridge has been declared closed until urgent remedial action is completed. The original week announced is likely to last a month. As a consequence Rail Replacement Buses have replaced trains between Carlisle and Workington. I won't go into the arguments as to why alternatives were not considered.
