Very interesting video to stumble upon an very well made an edited too! I wonder how they go about moving those wagons around in the yard? Do they need to get a locomotive down every time a few are full?
I suspect they can shove a few cars around with a loader or excavator. You can see some loaded cars to be picked up next to the road outside the facility at about 7:50. UP picks up and drops off cars here and the lumber yard next door with switchers from the main line.
@@LeeDfined I doubt they use something like that. It's not the sort of industry where you need to move cars around a lot, so it's unlikely that they'd buy an expensive machine that can only do that. For example, at a grain elevator, you need to move every car under the spout to load it or over the unloading pit to unload it, but you can load a string of gondolas with a front-end loader without having to move the cars.
nice vid... and it's interesting to see those MT gons are SPOTLESS on the inside... not uncommon to see gons with a foot of muck and gunk on the bottom... never cleaned out and adding useless weight to the car
"Small Operations" dont have million+ dollar shredders and a rail road track access running thru their operation buddy. Not to mention the $5 million in machinery sitting off to the side.
In the opening shot, there are twelve railcars on site. That means they anticipate loading about 1,200 tons of scrap in the next few days. Is that "small"?
