You’re misguided because you don’t even know the fact that Nanak’s successors used the pen name Nanak to preach Nanak’s message far and wide. No successor used their own pen name. They all preached the message of their prophet Nanak. Nanak regarded the کلمه (ਕਲਮੇ)(shabad)(word of god) as his Guru, which he attained through ilhaam (الهام) (revelation). The (کلمه) ਕਲਮੇ word of god is the satguru(satguru means true guru) of the Sikhs which they praise as Waheguru. Nanak’s first successor Angad preached Nanak in mehla 2nd. Nanak’s 3rd successor Amar das preached Nanak in mehla 3rd. Nanak’s fourth successor Ramdas preached Nanak in mehla 4th Nanak’s fifth successor Arjun preached Nanak in mehla 5th. Then Nanak’s 9th successor Tegh Bahadur preached Nanak in mehla 9th. Afterwards Gobind Singh gave Nanak’s followers the symbols of faith.

Some Hindus claim Sikhism to be a denomination of Hinduism and there are some Muslims (especially from Pakistan) who claim Guru Nanak (the founder of Sikhism) was a Muslim and therefore Sikhism is an off shoot of Islam. Islam and Hinduism do not have a lot in common yet both claim Sikhism to be a branch of their respective religions. Obviously Sikhism cannot be a branch of two fundamentally opposing religions. Putting it simply, Sikhs do not believe in a multitude of incarnated Gods, in Idol worship or the caste system all 3 of which are inherent in Hinduism, on the other hand Sikhs do not declare the Shahada, practice fasting and have no standard posture or practice of facing towards Mecca whilst praying, all of which is fundamental to Islam.

Sikhism is very much related to Hinduism. You can not deny this. Just open the books and see how many words are similar and concepts are literally identical. Reincarnation, karma, Dharm, etc.... all linked to Hinduism. Ram krishn pandavs Mahabharat Ramayan etc.... all mentioned in Sikh scriptures. I think that the Abrahamic belief systems are more simple. Or perhaps they have been packaged in a way that simple minded people can understand without thinking too much. They look at Sikhi and they see contradictions, but Guru has so much depth they can't piece it all together. Sikhs are still trying to piece it all together... we're still learning what exactly Guru was talking about. That's why we are Sikhs!
It's actually the other way around. We have answers to the hardest problems about religion. Such as evil and animal suffering. Abrahamic religions have to try very hard to defend their belief against atheists and often fail. This sounds like a guide for non informed Sikhs to ridicule Muslims. I recently watched another video by the same person on how Halal meat is not permissible for Sikhs. Nowhere in that video did he mention anything to do with how Kosher meat is EXACTLY the same as Halal with different prayers. This shows the argument he is portraying he explained “Muslims slaughter the animal in the most inhumane way on purpose”. Surely if you had done this much research you would have mentioned how the Jews follow exactly the same method ? From this I can infer a distrust and sort of hatred to Muslims being pumped into media by this guy, when I go to the mosque for lectures we hear non of this stuff, we hear good words about the Sikhs envying their charitable donations to the Guduwara and how they feed millions a day. Furthermore when I speak to my Sikh friends they tell me about a passed down hatred for Muslims. THIS IS NOT SIKHISM THIS IS TRIBALISM. Sikhism is part of Sanatan Dharm. He is wrong by saying all other religions have partial truth and Sikhism has 100 percent. That’s entirely wrong. Sikhi came 400+ years ago so no one had the truth prior to this period is crazy thing to say. Also there are many sages even after Sikhism who became enlightened through Hinduism like swami vivekanand, meetabai, tulsidas, etc.... to claim to have only full truth in your religion is not right. There are many paths to god. Sure some can be wrong but it’s possible to have truth in other religions. Those religions which are not fully on the clear path to the truth will eventually get fixed in time.
Although guru Nanak dev Ji took birth in Hindu religion that does not mean he accepted that religion. Unhone Hinduism ko challenge kiya tha. And Religion is not a genetic character, it is a set of beliefs. If the beliefs are changed the identity of the person also gets changed. So unhe hindu nahi keh sakte.

So if Waheguru Himself is conveying Baani to Guru Nanak Dev ji, and the whole Guru Granth Saheb is over 1400 angs but the term Waheguru is just used 13 times, whereas Rama, Hari, Govinda, Murari are mentioned more than hundred of times? It's a book of Waheguru, given by Waheguru right? But it emphasizes more on Rama and Murari than Waheguru himself! I find it contradictory!

As a a descendant of Pakistani Muslims and being a Muslim myself, we think of Sikhs as our brothers, since they basically are very close to us genetically and have some aspects of religion we agree with, I have a lot of Sikh friends and even our parents say you can trust a Sikh. We trust our own "Appne" so they fall in that category. We don't criticise Sikhism or guru Nanak, they are closer to us than any Arab or any South Indian can ever be.

The thing is God is truth, so there's nothing wrong with building on the true parts in Islam and Hinduism. In the vide he said that there is truth in those regions and thats what it's all about, I agree. But that means there is God in those religions. So if the Sikh Guru's said their teaching came from God, it doesn't necessary mean it wastn't inspired by existing true ideas about God from other religions because that is a source of God truth-knowledge too. It may require the God in them to recognise the truth when they see it, which means if they took ideas from other regions if those are the right ideas then that is coming from God. Not that I am saying they did this, I don't know personally know enough about Sikhi, but there's no need to take the defensive position described in the video imo. Another way of putting it is saying it's a bit like the water cycle. Water, like God exists in many different forms. Lets call the clouds Islam and the rivers Hinduism and the sea Sikhi. Is it wrong to say that the sea is a mix of the clouds and the rivers? No, it's actually true. If the gurus say the sea is made of water (God in this analogy) then any source of water is an acceptable source.

Just a question that entered my mind is where was the sikh movement when God created the world? This movement is only a few hundred years old so what is the sikhs view on other holy personalities that came before sikhism like the holy Prophets?

guru nanak sahib learnt monotheism from muslims, he was influenced by muslims, then he come back to india and tought monotheism to people, but still the culture is old, islam the pure monotheism, there is no idol worship or human statues, more logic, can apply to everyone, pray to unseen creator of universe, the GOD, also more flexible
To the musalmans in comments saying sikhi took concept of one god from islam, in islam there's only one allah who is seperate from his creation and sits on a thorne in some sky. As far as I believe, when guru Nanak left Hinduism for Islam some people did not want the rulings of Hinduism or Islam so made a fine mix to suit their needs, this mix was named Sikhism... Do the maths people...they wanted to eat cow...and drink alcohol...not sacrifice parts of the body...basically just a convenient mix of the best bits.... Hope it makes sense in a nutshell...

Circular arguments. You don't do much to prove anything, you just say that guru nanak said various things and it's the truth. You are free to believe that but if I believe that he said that but I don't believe his words to be true, that just means that I don't believe in what he said. You would then say 'are you calling guru nanak a liar?' to which I would reply no, but I believe he was misguided. He made statements he believed to be true so that doesn't make him liar, nor does it make him correct. That may offend you but but in order to establish truth, you will end up establishing facts and flashood. The facts will always be contrary to what others believe. Let's take you for example. Prophet Muhammed(pbuh) came with a new message to a place where idol worship was prevalent in the entire country in Arabia at the time, So it was a totally new message at that time to a nation who didn’t belief in Oneness of God and God doesn’t have a physical appearance. Guru Nanak message was already adapted by the people of that time in india because he was born a Hindu and he grew up seeing Muslims around him aswell so the concept of what he taught that God is everything and everywhere was already taught by Hindus and the spirituality side of things he got that idea from Sufi Muslim saints like Baba Farid, even the long beard and turban come from there. It makes sense because a turban is sunnah of Prophet Muhammed(pbuh) so sufi Muslim saints wore the turban to show love for the prophet and this attire was attained by Muslims way before Guru Nanak was even born, it’s not a coincidence where Guru Nanak got this idea from. So i think Sikh people should really ask themselves did Guru Nanak really bring a new message or did he just mix 2 already established religions and combine it to make Sikhism.

@LearningG you are right that many people claim divine intervention however not all can stand the test of time. Islam's message is for all of humanity, not just punjab. Muhammed pbuh claimed divine intervention but this was backed up by miracles and predictions of the future such as the conquering of constantinople. No other preacher has correctly predicted the future. Also, the quran has remained unchanged as promised since the start of Islam. These are the main reasons I accept Muhammed as the final messenger of God. With regards to the gurus, with all due respect, I believe that they came into being due to the political climate of India at the time where peace was needed between the Hindu and Muslim. I personally believe that guru nanak may have believed he was divinely inspired but he actually wasn't. Sikhism has too many aspects of Islam and Sikhism in it and this makes many people feel that its a religion of the 2 combined. Also, the fact that it came 400 years ago abd only spread in punjab tells me that this is not a religion for humanity..
Nobody Muslim is saying He was a liar, because He was a Muslim and He told Sikhis to read Qur’an on His death bed, it was the other Sikhis who originated the religion not Guru Nanak. Case closed.

There is no new prophet after the prophet Muhammed (Peace and Blessings upon him), only prophet Isa (Jesus, Peace be upon him) will come back (and he is not a new prophet).
This statement is absolutely false because they did come like in sikhism and the proof of it is that prophet muhammed didnt travel anywhere in the world except the middle eastern part of the world. For sure Islaam was arrived into Hindustaan, many accepted, so there was no need for a new prophet with the same message, if the Authentic Message is already there. And the prophet said no new messenger after me, only prophet isa (jesus) will return, but he is not new, he already is messenger. SallAllahu aleyhi we sellem upon the prophet. And indeed as ALLAH said (intrp. of meaning): "We surely sent a messenger to every community, saying, “Worship Allah and shun false gods.” But some of them were guided by Allah, while others were destined to stray. So travel throughout the land and see the fate of the deniers!" Quran 6:36 So there is no need for a new messenger, since His message is still Authentic, you can read PURE TAWHEED in the Quran (oneness of Allah), it is not like Christians who have ambigious innovations in their Bible about Jesus being one with Allah, eudhu'billah. No need for new prophet. And there will be no new prophet. (it is proven in Quran, prophet is khatam ul anbiya (seal of the prophets, and in Warsh dialect which is also authentic, it states prophet is LAST prophet in Quran). Read Qur'an 33:40

I think the reason most muslims don't wanna believe Gurunanak as a true messenger and prophet of God because muslim believe that Mohammad (pbuh) was the last messenger of God. So because of this great contradiction between two religion only one of them (muhammad (pbuh) or Gurunanak) can be true. Hindus have no problem to believe that Gurunanak was the messenger of God. Actually since there is no concept of messenger of God, some Hindus (especially those classified as Sindhi Hindu) in India often consider him as a God himself (as I have seen then praying to Gurunanak photo the same way they other Hindu God photo) which I think is different from Sikhism where he is just a messenger of God and not God himself. And also since one definition for Hindu is that whosoever born from Hindu parent is a Hindu many Hindu confuse that Gurunanak was a Hindu. With education Hindu will understand that Sikhism is a different religion.

Judaism christainty and islam are the religions from god and if you read their scripture (bible (which has two scripture fist jews scripture and second christian scripture) and quran) ........you can easily find many many commonalities which shows that Moses Jesus Muhammad (peace b upon them all) were phrophes of god they had the same message ......you are claiming that he(guru nanak g) had much better form of religion from god .......then there is no commonality between sikhism and abrahamic religion. Most overseas Sikhs want to distance themselves from Hinduism as if it is a taboo. This 600 year old religion with its founding gurus who were all born Hindus must have some religious philosophy and ideology from the oldest ‘religion’ that has evolved over the years into a more spiritual, tolerant and inclusive faith. This idea of purity ie ‘land of the pure’ Khalistan only alienates Sikhs from the rest. Purity of race ideology only brought disaster to those who sought to propagate it as seen in human history and it’s against the teachings of gurus and saints. There’s also some confusion in the minds of Sikhs as to who they are. Many say they are Punjabis only. ‘ Panch Pibare’ were not from punjab as I read the story of Sikhs. Finally if Sikhs want to create ‘land of the pure’ must ask some fundamental questions like 1) must declare all other stans as impure? 2) which part of South Asia do they want their pure land? 3) how large do they want their pure land to be 4) would ensure that all Sikhs live in the pure land and not other parts of Bharat ? 5) include Kartarpur as part of the pure land?
