I think Butcher was disappointed to hear what Voglebaum had to say, like he was probably hoping to hear that Homelander was a devil child who tortured animals for fun, but hearing he was actually a sweet young boy who liked Davey Crockett books and wanted to see the woods was unsatisfying.
Like the second he heard all of it, he came to understand that Homelander wasn't always the monster he came to know and that Voglebaum is to blame here
Yeah, and in fact he probably started empaphising a bit with Homelander (of course, he would never ever RESPECT him, just feel for his past) for having a terrible father figure, and I think this also explains how easy it was for Butcher to threaten Voglebaum so harshly. he saw the person he hates the most in the doc (his own father).
When Vogelbaum tells Butcher how Homelander was sweet and kind and how he needed him to be something he didnt want to be, you can see in Butchers face how it reminded him of his father and how he grew up 😢
@@doombada1mit's clear as day. As someone who grew up with an abusive father who had a similar mindset in how he wanted to raise me, Butcher's subtle shift in his eyes and facial expression and the way he glanced away said it all. In that moment, he realised the truth and that Voglebaum was the truly evil one, and Homelander was just a result of abuse like him. It doesn't excuse anything Homelander has done, or redeem him at all in Butchers eyes, but in that moment, Butcher feels empathy for him and realises they're both a lot more similar than he thought. Turn the video quality up and rewatch it if you missed it.
I think about this about most people in real life. Just think about the latest data that says the greatest indicator of wealth and/or success is where you were born and raised, no matter your skills, genetics, or race. That's terrifying.
That look at 1:20 when he realizes fully that Vogelbaum is the one who turned an innocent boy into a monster. Also realizing that in many of the ways that matter he and Homelander are a LOT alike.
Only on rewatching I realised how masterfully this episode compares butchers childhood to homelanders. A sweet boy who wanted childish things, and a father figure who abused him to mold him into a “strong man”. For themselves. Extremely touching.
Genuinely he couldn't get any more intimidating then he is in this scene. When he emotionlessly locks eyes with Homelander's creator you don't see the face of a broken man, but the cold piercing gaze of a blood-lusted murderer with full intent to takes someones life that day
Homelander displays many Cluster B personality traits, but none of us are the slightest bit qualified to 'diagnose' a fictional character even remotely accurately.
The saddest part of this story is the implication that if John had been raised the way that, say, Clark Kent was raised, he might actually have become what he only pretends to be now.
Well if you ask me, provided superpowers like that existed, a character like Homelander despite how over the top he is is much more likely to exist in real life than a Superman. Have you ever looked at what the Greek gods got up to who modern superheroes were modeled after in many ways? In the words of Butcher, "fucking diabolical".
One of the things I love about Homelander is the potential he had to be a hero. If he’d had the upbringing of Clark Kent, he’d be a genuine Superman. Monsters aren’t usually born, they’re made.
Dr vogel saying "how could you be this (i assume its a nasty word)", and yet he did the things he done, causing pains and suffering to others by creating a monster.. its justified, rather, its mandatory to return him the favor, how gruesome that is
They played every badass troupe here to perfection. Karl Urban take a bow, Butcher deserved someone like you to pull off a scene like this even if it was slightly off source material
Imagine a version of Homelander that was a genuinely good guy, who enjoyed helping people and spending his spare time hiking in the woods and being close to nature.
@@5Ci0NInvincible, they probably want to air that first, wait until everyone's bored and ready for another season and then release the Boys. I wouldn't be surprised if they flop back and forth between the two, honestly.
What makes Butcher so great is that he knows he is bad. But he's way too far down the line to turn back now. He will destroy himself in his pursuit of vengeance, but he'll drag Homelander down to hell with him.
Honestly with all the changes they made from the comics I was really hoping they weren't going to take Butch down the villain route. Make no mistake, comics Butcher and now TV Butcher are not anti-heroes, they are straight villains of an order of magnitude beyond even Homelander. Homelander at least has the excuse of being literally tortured and manipulated to the point of insanity, Butcher knowingly and willfully choses his betrayals and murderousness. All the talk of vengeance and holding people accountable are just excuses, not for himself but to others in order to manipulate them into seeing him as a deeply flawed and emotionally broke but ultimately good man so they will help him in his mad dog desires for violence. If Butcher had raised Ryan instead of Becca he would have done nearly the same thing as Voglebaum just to have a supe weapon of his own.
Vogelbad had the gull to ask Billy how he could be such a way, yet this is the man who created the monster that destroyed Billy's life and the lives of others just to create the perfect product for Vought.
I liked S3 more than S2, that congresswoman with blood quirk was so stupidly overpowered that somewhat ruined my experience. On the other hand Gen V did a good job with exploring her.
I want KARL anddd the HOMELANDER ACTOR to both be wolverine!!! Lol theyd be great, still wouldn't mind charlie hunam or tom hardy and keanu reeves as wolverine but i know those are more unrealistic for a variety of known reasons
Why was that like by Dr. V censored? He doesn’t curse in the actual scene all he says is “how can you be so…” I’m not sure what they were censoring here lol
As much as Homelander is a D cant help to feel bad for how he was treated growing up that turned him into what he is and the lives it destroyed. The real super villains are the non supes.
