This makes me so sad we had several happy holidays here our dad took us here my little 4 year old brother and myself. I got my first kiss in the disco there when I was 12! They should have kept it going and helped it not put MORE unwanted houses there. We lost Dad last year to the virus, I am now over 60. RIP Dad and Sir Billy for what you did for everyone - RIP Filey - you are sadly, and deeply missed.

Why would they keep it open? Butlins holiday camps are from a bygone era and are victims of cheap holidays abroad so they are losing money. Yes it’s sad but there is no room for sentiment in business. Time moves on.

Back then it was a magical holiday for parents and children. I didn't go to Filey but the other camps I went many times in the 70s. You must have had the best times back then😊 So sad to see them go 😢 I loved the chairlifts and monorail in some camps, skating, table tennis, boating pond, indoor play areas, fair wow all free and magical. Yes for staff or holiday makers we all had the best years of Butlins.⛲🎠🎡🎢🎰🎈🎱🎳🎾🏊🏓🍦🍭🍺🍷

I went with my family for four years in a row from 1958-61 to different camps. At the Welsh one we all got the Asian flu & spent the week in the sick-bay, but these camps gave the early teens the freedom from their parents. We were told not to go off the camp, we didn’t & could more or less go where we wanted as long as we met up for meal-times. It was the Chair-a-planes for me that was the draw, the swimming pool & the roller skating. Very Happy Days.

Went to Filey in either 1958 or 1959, can't remember exactly. Had a great holiday, loved the indoor pool, the boating lake, everything really! I do remember my mother wasn't overly impressed with the chalet, very basic. I think the reason we went was there was a ballroom dancing festival on that year and my parents were keen dancers. Does anyone remember the dining hall, which was famous for staff dropping plates and food all over the floor; I slipped in some and landed on my backside! I was a member of the Beaver Club and for a couple of years after the holiday I used to get a birthday present from the club. One year it was a book 'Billy Bunter at Butlins'. Very appropriate!

Such a poignant tribute to butlins Filey I recall it well during the late 70s early 80s my late parents and my late aunt had 2 static caravans on primrose Valley next door I recall even though I never actually visited butlins I recall it in the late 70s and early 80s and the sad ☹️ tragic sight of its decay after closing for good in 1983 though it never got the magic back as the owner Trevor Guy tried to reopen it as Amstree Park such a tragedy really

Thats a very sad, but nostalgic video, the fountains really were iconic, a lump to the throat moment. Butlins Filey was my favourite holiday destination as a kid. I've driven past it a few times since the demolition and there's always a tear shed. I believe there's still some remnants of the old place viewable in the next door camp of Primrose Valley, I did visit there a few years ago and went to look, I hope they've kept them.

It is truely sad when these fantastic holiday places are left to fall into ruin. There is and was so much history. I am really hoping to get to a camp one day. The numbers are shrinking. As well to visit one and see the true chalets feel the vibrance. That is why thank fully through You Tube and people who present to us these savings of history before they are gone for ever. Thank you for sharing.

I worked there in the early 70s, it was the first time I had ever left home, I started work at the huge dish wash machine, it was far better than it sounds, I worked with a lot of people who worked for Butlin's every year. I finally moved on the a new job as a waiter, I loved it. Very hard work but fantastic fun. The next year I went to Butlin's Filey and loved it even more but I got married and didn't go back, If I had known any of it was still there in 1990 I would have returned for a visit, but it would have been full of ghosts I guess, happy days

We used to go for the day ever year, think all the Sunday schools from Bridlington did the trip (ours was St Johns Burlington). Many happy memories and I was sad when it closed, but even sadder to drive past when it fell to dereliction. While I miss the place I'm glad it's been demolished and replaced (not a good replacement admittedly) but at least we don't have to see it in poor state. Memories will live on, and so long as RU-vid don't remove this clip we can always come back for nostalgia :)

In a way, it was nice, it wasn't completely cleared until 2009, to give people a chance to still walk over the land if they wanted to and still picture the place. My parents took me to Butlins in the late 1960's, I remember the swimming pool windows, but in my case it would either have been at Minehead or Barry Island. Happy days.
