One thing to keep in mind with an open element CAI. The claimed HP/TQ gains will be less in real world driving. This is because Dyno numbers are taken with the hood open. I’d like to see the Dyno done with the hood down.

Did the same K&N mod on my 2019 convertible. A great mod for the money and there was a noticeable change in the sound once the baffle was plugged. (Even more noticeable with the top down) Also a noticeable improvement in the Torque as well. I do remember the kit coming with a Dyno sheet that mentioned approx. 22 HP increase but don't remember the Torque gain. The good thing you mention is that no tune is required, and it does not void the factory warranty. Some other cold air intakes require a tune with minimal increase. Last thing with the Mod is that I think running 93 octane is well worth it. Like the Dino Test drive 👍
Ralph, all the points you make are spot on. Having the top down on a convertible really improves the sound, doesn’t it? :-) I exclusively run 93 octane, but I have been curious about E 85… Unfortunately it is not readily available where I live, so that will have to be a project for the future. K & N make a great product, and I don’t hear them talked about enough in Mustang circles. I am glad there are others out there that know about them. 💯You are overdue for the Ford performance Power Pack level 2,, adds almost 50 horsepower almost 50 lb of torque, 50 more tq. At 2000 RPM... and the transmission is so much more calmer compared to the original program, look into it for your car , and then do a video on it... I love mine..
@Mike Fyxdt they can only compensate so far. That range gets smaller every year. More air, more fuel, and you need the exhaust to match or allow for the flow. You wouldn't need a tune if you could put in all the air you wanted.
Some people say it's all hype about the cold air intakes but regardless if that's true or not they just look way cooler. I'm going to get one next year hopefully
I've heard the claim of hype - and on some cars an intake might not make any difference. You have to figure that the factory intake on a performance Mustang is going to be pretty good from the onset...after all, why would Ford hold back on available power? I think the factory setup is probably better for all-around every day driving. Less performance, but also better suited to the widest range of locations. Oh, and I agree - the cold air intake looks much cooler.
@@MikeFyxdt i do remember adding a spectre intake to my 2016 mustang v6 and that was with no tune at all. however after i switched back to stock my toque curve seemed to come back and had more power to the touch. however i did add a K&N drop in filter and the gains felt better.
@@maker7901 I mostly agree. I think cold air intakes borrow a little bit from low RPM power and give you more horsepower in the upper RPM. I noticed this in particular when I put an intake on my V6 Honda accord. A little slower off the line, but when that engine starts winding it’s like a banshee!
@@MikeFyxdt lol yea I been told if I'm going to put a intake on to get a tune with it. But only thing is the s550 v6 donest have a MAF or a IAT that's on the intake tube. I'm sure if their was then I'm sure the aftermarket intake would make a difference.
@@maker7901 I'd think that if you got an aftermarket intake specifically for your car then they would account for the sensors you have/don't have, right? I'm holding off on a tune for warranty reasons, but a 2016... let her rip!
I don't mean to be bias here but there's no way this gets 22 hp without a tune I've been working on mustang gt's for for over 10 years and even I know this k&n won't get you that k&n is good for oil filters and regular air filters but not cold air intakes
Steven, I have to admit that it did not feel like a 22 hp game to me. I want to believe that the dyno sheet they included in the sales information was accurate, but I guess your mileage will vary lol. Thanks for watching and joining the conversation!
I installed k&n install on American muscle and car wouldn't start.watched your vidio and noticed your mailing sensor red lock tab was up wich made sense because sensor was now on other side of tube, if it faces down the car won't run. Thank you so much

Lj Sites - LOL, yes - $16 per horse! Supercharger will cost at least $20 per pony and up. I think my current dino is rated at at least 750 hp, so I'm hoping to get a few seasons out of him. No butts about it! :)
Your video is great.. but there is no way this adds any horsepower besides 2-3 for a free flowing filter. The tubing on the stock intake is bigger and this has an additional bend at the end for no reason? In a cai/filter dyno comparison I forgot the company but the K&n drop in filter added 9hp and the cai added only 5.. I would ditch this setup and go with the JLT with the smaller tubing so you don’t need a tune. It adds way more hp and is a better design
Thanks for your input! I based my claims on the Dino print out that what is included with my air intake, which details the horsepower increase. I don’t know if I can feel it when I am driving, but it looks good on paper. Plus, I think it gives a nice whoosh to the sound coming from the engine bay.
John, since I got back into cars I hear everyone talking about putting their cars on a 'dyno' (dynamometer) to accurately measure horsepower. For those who don't want to spend upwards of $100 per testing session, there is "the butt dyno" - i.e. how hard acceleration can be felt in your seat. I've always been tickled by this notion, and in my somewhat bizarre mind I imagined a dinosaur. I think I need to develop the concept a little further, but this could be a subject for a future video... :)
Jerry, I have vents on the Mustang hood that help extract the engine heat. The cold air intake directs air through the filter from the front of the grill. Even though the airbox is an open design, it seals against the hood when it’s closed, so the only place it’s breathing from the opening in the front grill, and not the engine compartment air. I guess that’s a long way of saying that I have not experienced any issues caused by engine heat! Great question and thanks for watching!

(Here we go) Exterior: Hood Vents, Front Tow Hook, Rear Side L.E.D Lights, Smoked Rear Taillight Covers. Quick Release Boot Lid Struts. UNDER VEHICLE: H-PIPE, UPR Oil Drain Plug. UNDER HOOD: Oil Catch Can, Struts, K&N Air Filter, Sound Tube Delete. INTERIOR: Full L.E.D Map & Sun Visor Upgrade, Metal Hood Release Latch. I would love to install the 63 series K&N Cold Air Intake but unfortunately over here we can pay up to 3 times the price of American made products due to the extra Taxes & Import Duties. (For example) This Air Box would set me back around $ 800.00. I'm NOT planning on further Mods at this point in time. The standard 5.0L with the 10 speed auto is PLENTY FAST ENOUGH for me. Can you hear it suck air in when you release the throttle? I used to have one on my Subaru STI, I love the air sucking in, not as annoy as the air release valve but still got a very significant breathing sound! So how’s that on the mustang?
@jamesmmm - thanks for the kind words! I would describe the new air intake as being "peppier" around town, and a more aggressive kick in the seat (aka the Butt Dyno) when you re doing a pull throughout the full power band. I don't hear a big air-suck sound difference, probably because the stock air intake also pulls from the front. Since I deleted the sound tube, maybe it averages things out. Plus, I've done most of my driving with the convertible top down, so that maybe masks some of the noise. But I know exactly what you are describing in your Subaru STI! I put a K&N cold air intake on my V6 Honda Accord and that definitely changed the sound of the engine dramatically. There's a howl from the front now that sounds like a supercharger. And there is a dramatic increase in power, especially when pushed hard. I'll pay more attention on the Mustang to see if I can hear the difference!

Do you not realise how pointless your comment was? A closed air box will also suck in hot air when the air is hot outside... That's just basic logic buddy.
I bought a 2019 gt conv. You made me do it, best thing I ever did. I bought the k&n 63 and followed instructions went okay. Started it up runs 3 seconds than dies, won't run, im devastated any ideas. I did take positive term. Off to remove cross member and it did spark when I re connected it. Dont know if that did anything. Maybe sensor is clip down not up like yours but pins line up.
Hi Paul, I’m glad you also have a GT convertible! I can’t think of any reason why an air filter would affect your tune so much that it would stall. The only thing I can think of is the MAF sensor, and maybe it’s not in right. Do you have an OBD diagnostic tool? I would think that would tell you if a sensor was bad.

Would you recommend a throttle enhancement after you put a cold air system on it. Like the speedform sec 10 throttle response controller???? Please let me know. Thanks
Hi Darryl, my feelings are mixed when it comes to throttle controllers. I like the extra control you get with long pedal play, but I understand how having more power quicker could be fun. If you want to save some money, wear heavier shoes? JK, if you decide to go with the throttle controller please check back and let us know how you like it!
John, the marketing material promised more than 20, but I would guess it’s probably around 10. But it makes a more cool noise now so that’s worth something, right?
You'll never need to buy another air filter for the Mustang for as long as you own it. I was expecting the car to be taken to a garage to be strapped down to a dynamometer for a couple of pulls. A new mascot for the Mike Fyxdt channel... (doesn't add any weight to the car)... lol
Hi Marc! A dyno session here would have cost me around $100 U.S. so I like that the K&N kit came with a dyno chart. Saved enough money that I could afford to hire my new channel mascot. I don't care as much about numbers as I do just being a little quicker and having fun. I like the longevity of the cloth filters, too. You make an excellent point about weight, as Butt Dyno weighs next to nothing. I wonder if my car insurance will reduce my cost if I tell them I've added another airbag?
@Seahawksfan_12 - The only thing that might make a difference is if the evap hose fittings aren't correct, or if there's a problem with the MAF sensor connection. Even if there was a problem, I can't imagine it keeping the car from starting entirely - I'd think it would just run rough. Sorry I can't be more helpful!
I don't see a difference, no matter what the season. I don't do performance driving or racing, so heat soak really isn't an issue. I think it's breathing in more air than the stock air box - I like it!
Mokum Holland - I like that idea! I do mostly around-town driving and I'm pretty heavy footed at times, so the best I've done is about 18 mpg before the new intake. I don't expect a big change in either direction, but I'll take a reading and then reset my mpg guage, and follow up i a future video. Thanks!
Mike, how has your longterm experience been with this intake? I tried an Injen intake on my 2018 GT, but the fitment was horrible in my experience. I'm considering this K&N.
Al, the Butt Dyno noticed a difference! Not a huge difference, but the engine seemed peppier and the back end was a little bit squirrelier. (Is that a word?)
