Cue the pic of my elf ears hat 😊 I love butter bombs, I use a small amount of shea & cocoa in every batch. Love how that feels on the skin. Great trick on putting the bath melt on the bottom.

Love this!! Bath melts are my most favorite bath item ever!!! I’m currently trying to nail down the bath bomb liquid ratio for my humidity. I have been using the wonderful Mrs. S&C recipe, but have slowly been scaling back the water, trying not to get warty looking bombs. But kiddo is loving the testing, as well as me!! Anyway….Thanks for the melding idea! Once I nail the BB recipe I totally intend to do this!!

Dumb question I have been wondering forever, well, since I have been watching you...how do you cut the micas with cornstarch? Ratio-wise that is.
@Imokanurnot
@Imokanurnot 2 года назад
I had been wondering too, then I found where Mrs. S&C answered another person further down in the comments - she said it's 1 part mica and 5 parts cornstarch. Oh, and by the way - that wasn't a dumb question - at all. Watch the Master as I ask one in 5...4...3...2...

Great content thanks Mrs S&C. Just wondering what temp the bath has to be to melt the butters. Also, I know you're a strong gal, but just noticing you don't really get too strong-arm when putting the bath bombs together. Do they stay together OK when they set? I'm just starting and looking at bath bomb presses (hubby will probably make one from a drill press/home brew bottle capper LOL). Seems I may not need one to begin with. Looking forward to your store opening again soon. Ha ha just answered my question regarding strength of bombs.
@MrsSoapAndClay
@MrsSoapAndClay 2 года назад
Hey! Nope, no strong arming required with bombs; haven’t had a problem with separation in several years! If your hubs makes you a press, you should film it so we can see what’s up!

I have a question what calculator you use to make your lotion and bath bombs?
@MsAubrey
@MsAubrey 2 года назад
I'll tell you what I do... since Mrs. S&C has given pretty basic recipes, and you can find some basic recipes on Brambleberry's website, I simply use those and modify as I like from there. I use Epsom in my bath bombs like Mrs. suggests. For a colorant, I use a few drops of liquid color that I've used in M&P before. I love the lotion bar recipes she's shared on her videos in the past. I however, use different liquid oils than she does, but they have similar properties. Mrs. has even shared where to find the properties in some of her videos.

I must say I agree with the elvish look, and think it agrees with you. These are very interesting- they look gorgeous and luxurious. I've got a rosy question... I recently found a quart of olive oil stuffed with rose petals that I put up about a year ago (for infusing). Do you see any reason I shouldn't use the oil? I know rose essential oil can be volatile (spoil easily) and I am a little concerned about acceleration. The oil smells lovely, so I don't think spoilage is an issue at this time. I've written a recipe that would use this as the whole olive oil portion of the recipe.
@MrsSoapAndClay
@MrsSoapAndClay 2 года назад
Sounds delightful! I think the oil should be fine.

i just noticed and correct me if i am wrong that you are using a plastic round tree ornamant? :o those are so pretty! question, you think you can pull off making layers and swirls with just kaolin clay to make the soap white and cocoa powder to make the soap layer maybe brownish? i did try bath bombs once i failed, and never again! i will leave those to you :)
@MrsTheClown
@MrsTheClown 2 года назад
I've done just that for soap colorants with success (kaolin & cocoa). I did make sure to not use any dark yellow/green oils for that.
@MrsSoapAndClay
@MrsSoapAndClay 2 года назад
What JN said!
@MsAubrey
@MsAubrey 2 года назад
I've used nothing but clays to color many of my soaps and yes, in layers and swirls too. I would suggest though, that if you're doing a true clay soap (as Mrs. has taught us, there is a difference) by using 4 TBSP of clay per pound, you want to have the 35-38% water / lye ratio, because if you discount it, it'll get thick fast and could seize if you use a scent that accelerated trace too... I recently had that happen because I forgot that the recipe I wrote down was water discount of 8%. Oops. But I hot processed it immediately and the soap still turned out nice... just not as nice if it had been pourable. 😂

I'm lovin' the elf vibes, wish I had the facial structure for it. I'm fixin' to show just how newbie I really am, but can anyone tell me what "Poly" is? I know it's Poly-something, but I don't know what the "something" is.
@MrsSoapAndClay
@MrsSoapAndClay 2 года назад
Hey! Poly is polysorbate 80 - used in bath bombs to help disperse the mica and oils in the bath water, basically.
@rockynuisance
@rockynuisance 2 года назад
Chantine, I'd like to hear your thoughts on adding milk powders, oat powder, any plant powders and such to bath bombs? I'm worried ingredients of this nature have the potential to turn nasty (even captured in an environment ostensibly hostile for bacteria) and I cannot, for the life of me, find any definitive information about this online, even though I see people making them.
@ginafricke
@ginafricke 2 года назад
I would also be interested in this. I make goatmilk soap and am going to freeze dry some milk to add to my bubble bars. It is just an experiment at this point. I'd love to know if anyone has tried this. 🙂
@MsAubrey
@MsAubrey 2 года назад
Oh... that's a good question. I don't know that anything would turn rancid unless exposed to water before making them though. I'm not sure though. I'm curious about this now too... like green tea powder would be wonderful in bath bombs!
@rockynuisance
@rockynuisance 2 года назад
@@MsAubrey Yes. I'm thinking that because citric acid is hydrophilic, the bath bombs will draw moisture from the atmosphere to them and is that enough for food type ingredients to mould? That's what I'm getting at really.
@MsAubrey
@MsAubrey 2 года назад
@@rockynuisance It's possible. That's why I'm looking forward to someone that may know better, answering.
@MrsSoapAndClay
@MrsSoapAndClay 2 года назад
Hey! So powdered versions of any kind are typically fine in bath bombs; they’re not drawing enough moisture from air (hopefully your bombs NEVER draw moisture from the air) to mold. For the frozen goats milk, I would likely steer clear.
