ok, i'm curious - are there many people who genuinely find the birkin beautiful? (btw, sorry for the negative comments re luxury, Dacob, don't mean to be a hater, i just like your videos, and the topics are fascinating, while at the same time it's rare i actually like a luxury product.. hating on the design and price/quality, not on you or your videos

Thank you lala 🥰💫🙏🏻 The Birkin is not a beautiful bag in the standard definition of beautiful luxury bags to show off at the opera or at a fancy dinner or even at an art gallery opening. Its not a fancy bag. The Birkin was born out of the necessity for a utilitarian bag. Jane Birkin basically asked for a big enough power horse bag that would be robust enough and big enough to carry all her baby diapers and accessories for her and her kid all day, each day. The birkin was born out the need to have a top quality leather bag that will last a very long time and that can help you throughout the day and your travels to keep all your belongings safe. Thats basically it. It is an unpretentious bag in that respect. It does not try hard to be anything else but a utilitarian bag made out of the best leather possible. So when we look at it this way, we understand that beauty is not really the point of the Birkin bag. We love it for the practical reasons. And as for its beauty: the secret lays hidden in its simplicity. 💖

Well, I’m not speaking for everybody, but I think my Birkin’s are absolutely gorgeous! From the thickness, the heaviness of the bag, to the sumptuous nature of the leathers and the incredible colors that they come in on top of the exquisite workmanship, it is an amazing work of beauty! I’m sure you don’t own one of your own so you couldn’t possibly know any of this!

Dacob…..omg babes my husband works for Villanova University and he hosts the Villanova Fashion Law Symposium. The Dir Senior Council of Employment and Litigation at LV went to Villanova and gets a lot of people to come every year to hold conferences. You and Tashira from Politics and Fashion came up as people who have a pulse on fashion and law. My husband texted me screaming THEY MENTIONED DACOB AND TASHIRA!!! OUR PEOPLE!!! 😂😂😂

I find this all very hard to believe. I bought Birkins Kelly’s & Constance in the late 90s and very early 2000s and you could just walk in the store and pick them up off the shelf. They would have displays of them I remember the last display I actually saw was the Jean-Paul Gaultier with the large size of the Kelly and the Birkin, and then a long Constance, all in a new color, Bougainvillea! It was all just breathtaking 💕 I would just pick the one out I want, they box it up I pay for it and leave. I didn’t need to buy a stack of silk scarves or anything else . It was a different world back then we didn’t have influencers ruining things, goading people who had not the money to purchase things that were way out of her league and drive up this ridiculous situation, we are in now! Y’all need to get a life and I mean that in the kindest possible way❤

I envy you. When I first fell in love with birkins I was too young to afford it. I told myself I would one day get it when I’m older. Now that I can afford it, I have to play all these silly games to get it so I’m trying to get it through a reseller which costs more. It’s frustrating.

@@SummeRain783 I didn’t even know how much I should appreciate how easy life used to be with the fashion industry, and in many other aspects of life. The thing was, we didn’t have to be so in love with or desirous Of the products. The only list in Hermès at the time was if they didn’t have a color or leather combination you want it they put you on a list. If, and when they received it, you got a call. And one last thing the stores were tiny they were like a little chapels, not cathedrals.

Exactly... I did buy regular at Hermes back in the 80s/90s and it was never an issue. But I guess that in the 2000s when millions of Russians and Chinese started to become part of the worldwide luxury market they couldn't fulfill that anymore

Said it before, I”ll say it again if you really want one of these bags they can be purchased a a secondary pre-loved market. I seen a bunch of these bags recently all over the place. That way you get the bag without the games!

Yes, back in the 80’s and early 90’s Neiman Marcus sold Hermes in their stores. I remember seeing (bags,shoes,clothing) when I was there with my mom as a teenager.

My point exactly, gonna try this trick on my next trip far away from a local boutique. I’ll be in London next month and will try just out of curiosity to ‘buy’ a pile of random things. We’ll see if no Birkin = no deal strategy works. I’m shameless when it comes to a good experiment.

I've purchased high-quality, top/full-grain, pebbled Togo leather dupes (no logo) and called it a day since 2005. I love the workhorse design and have carried everything from a laptop to a rescue kitten I found on the street.

I don't think it applies to everyone, though. I've purchased around 7-8k worth of items asked to be put on wishlist for a birkin and was told no birkin available.

Im wondering if the SA was worried that by saying no they’d missing out on the sales/ commission of all the other stuff & possible future sales from that person which is why they go the extra mile and ask. Wish you could make a vid testing the theory in a couple of different stores. That would be amazing

Years ago customers would buy up as many Birkin’s and Hermes products for resale. Hermes found out that people were doing this and they start putting limits on how many you could buy. People would also buy Birkin’s for other people but you take a chance on the person not wanting it and trying to return. When people changed their minds and try to return something like a Birkin , that will affect you because now they know you are purchasing for other people. And to them yes that does matter.

Why use a bag, where the brand (Hermes) actively don't want you as a customer? I understand people want a Birkin or other Hermes bag, but they clearly only want to sell to a tiny percentage of customers (very rich), so make it nigh on impossible for the average person to own a bag... And if you do manage to obtain a bag by other means, you are advertising Hermes on your arm - a brand that basically thinks you're not good enough to buy from their boutiques (unless you jump through many hoops)... Think you are better off buying from a brand that at least likes you as a customer 😐

The funny thing is that, you can tell the game to people that love Hermes, and they will still play the game so they can get the bag? I know people drop tens of thousands of money on other crap in the store just to be offered a Birkin or Kelly. I know a RU-vidr who virtually had a breakdown cause she was band from HR Hermes (Hermes HR literally called her and band her from the store) from shopping there. She said in the vid that she would never go to Hermes again, and not too long after, still buying Hermes in the after market...

I am going to make my own. 😈 I don't think it could be used, they would have to have had a more scientific test, like several shoppers trying a set of different strategies, and then only the ones with this particular strategy get a bag, and it is repeated the exact same way, in a large amount of test stores, then you would have a case.

Maybe the Hermès SAs were ‘motivated’ to give him the Birkins because they get commission for scarves 🧣 but not for Birkins. So if you buy 10 scarves that is a great deal for the SA. But it’s also like 10k 😂before you can ask about the Birkin

I don't see how this law suit can ever succeed because Hermes definitely does sell Birkins on occasion to people with no purchase history, certainly in Europe. So there isn't a watertight, all-time policy.

My understanding is that the sales associates don't get commission on sales of handbags or at least not the Kelly or Birkin. If that is so, they have every incentive to want to please a customer who is buying stacks and stacks of scarves, accessories, other home items. They wouldn't want to mess up a possible sale of goods that they will get a commission on, by refusing to even consider or at least check that there might be a birkin and back, knowing that it's a possibility that he could easily say no thank you to all the other things he was going to buy. Trying to prove that it's Hermes policy, is a big hill for the other side to overcome in the court case. I don't believe they can prove it. The sales associates individual choice to do this without an actual paper trail or indication that upper management or even store management expected this, makes it a hard thing to prove, in my opinion

No one can explain why any customer would fight to give their money to a company who clearly doesn't want it. This is the Crux of the entire situation. Customers are mad because they weren't part of the selective few to purchase a bag.

I'm sorry for the sellers but I would be able to go to the store to get everything I really want (clothes, sandals, etc...) and ask for Birkin and depending on the value of everything if there is no limit on the card I give up the purchase And I only buy Birkin and really if you don't want to sell me, let's go to justice… 😬

Yes i would do as you say if i have all the money in the world but would not purchase if they do not have the handbag and better still only want to purchase the handbag if they have 🤣Seriously someone should do that. Go in give a list of stuff that i am interested in and then before paying, asked for a Birkin or Kelly. Love to see their reaction. Then if no Birkin or Kelly, i will not purchase the items. How nice would that be...of course needless to say i will be blacklisted but that is a good way to proof that and if one can take a video in the hide, bring it to the court, that would be really fun to watch. Dacob tomorrow Hermes Corporate will call you to take down this video 🤣🤣
