Yeah that's my main concern really, possible flaking as any coating ages. Because I'm not a customer of any pubs or restaurants I'd rather not inconvenience them, to be honest, but it's a great idea.

You're right it's a great idea, but I'm not keen on asking at businesses where I'm not as customer.

@@CairnOfDunnCroftPermaculture but that just means it's one less thing they have to put in their garbage, which they pay to have picked up. You could bring them a cloth bag with the name of your business on it, they could keep the bottles under the bar in that, and you could pick up once a month. You could also thank them on the channel so they get some kind of free advertising. You'd also get free advertising when someone sees them putting the empty into your bag and they ask why.

The first project is a small panel above the mass heater, but I'm starting to collect it for a good sized wall in a couple of years. I don't know of any recipes for fire brick I'm afraid!
