In the beginning of 90s, as a relatively young civil engineer , after completing some extra work I bought at then official distributor of Swiss watches in Poland, Jubiler, my first two Swiss dress timetellers - one Certina and one Omega. Simple and modest in design, stainless steel cases, they have functioned up to present days and they still look on the wrist in a modern way. Immortal workhorses.

@@mrparker4597 Quartz for everyday use is very practical. Swiss watch industry had great achievements in this field, cost of production from Asia almost killed them in the beginning of 80s. I remember as in 1981, due to decreasing popularity of mechanical watches I was offered in a shop in Germany a brand new Rolex Daytona for less than $ 900. I could buy it but I were not very fancy taking it, seemed so outdated tool 😊.

Back in the 1980’s I bought my first Omega, the caliber 1045 because I wanted a “real” watch. I had plenty of other watches but I wanted this one because I felt it was the epitome of what a watch should be. Many years later I would find out that this was one of the first, (if not the first) 1045 to come to America. I asked an authorized dealer to find an Omega with the features I was looking for and it happened to be the 1045, and they were not sold in America. The AD ordered one for me and after four months it arrived and was in my hands. It is still my daily wear watch.

God bless you but personally im not comfortable daily wearing these type of watches. Only for special occasions i would take out expensive watches to put on. I daily wear a Seiko 5. That's good enough for a trip to Walmart

@@badboy-gn8fu Nothing wrong with a Seiko 5. I have several of those. They are worn as rotational watches on my right wrist. The 1045 never leaves my left wrist except to work out or take a shower.

Bought the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 8900 as my first watch and I love the watch so much. Always committed to the Submariner as my first watch for nearly a decade without realizing how sought after and iconic it was until a couple years ago. Sad to see the prices on the grey market increase about 50% since then and experience the AD games first hand to own one. After a lot of research on the Aqua Terra and some long hard fought conviction I'm very very happy with my Omega.

A good sales practice is not to name or trash the competitor. When selling high end products, one shouldn't expect the potential buyers to be neither blind or dumb...

'before they go up' ? lol, i still remember when the Seamaster 300 was about 3600euros, and that was what, 2018/2017? Now it's 5200. I own a midsized ceramic one, bought second hand at 1/3 of the retail price of the new one at the time.

I like Rolex, but I feel you get way more for your coin with omega. Display caseback let's you enjoy looking at the architecture of the movement. Enjoy your content..

I picked up an Omega Speedmaster Sapphire Sandwich with the 1861 movement. Tried to haggle for a discount and no dice. This is before they got discontinued. I'm on a waitlist for the current Speedy and going to have to pay full retail on it.

I tried really hard to buy an Omega AquaTerra but no luck. One seller wanted to tear away the alligator strap. Another one did not want to send it this far. The third one never answered. So I fell for a GS instead. That's 'check' but I am still missing the Omega. The prices are going up, that's true. Even the GS prices.

I bought my Seamaster Chronostop new in 1969 : best watch I've ever owned, it has never let me down and I still wear it today. It cost me £39.19.00 ( £39.95p ) which was two weeks wages then!

I just purchased the awesome PO GMT for 28% off. I have a lot of amazing pieces in my collection but this is one of my favorites. It's on my wrist right now. Not only will the price of Omegas go up, the discount will go down. That said, Omega will still be priced fairly and there will still be some discounts to be had.

I’ve always appreciated Omega and have two. The build quality and fit and finish is second to none. I’ve never truly fallen in love with one though. That’s what’s missing for me and I’m not sure why. I just don’t reach for them very often vs other watches.

Omega speedmaster price went up pretty bad in indonesia. Grey market now is sampe like retail price. Show up in omega boutique. And you see no speedmaster.

I would love to get an Omega but that price range is well out of my budget and will be for the next 15 years. But if I could get 1 Omega watch I would for sure try to land myself with a Speedmaster Alaska Project. That white dial and white strap with all that text and logos is just so incredibly appealing to me I just couldn't choose a different Omega I think. The reason why it was made, what it represents, the history of the brand, NASA and space watch really makes me feel giddy inside when I see it. If I could only own one!

I avoided most larger purchases during the feeding frenzy and meteoric price increases caused by the foolish lockdowns. Manufacturers of many products got used to producing less, and charging more. Recently purchased a new Kawasaki Z900RS, and fondly remember the saleswoman saying "The days of negotiation of list price are over". I smiled as I looked out of the office window, at the showroom full of new and used bikes, and reflected on the discount I had negotiated with them on the deal. The hope was that the demand and high prices would be the "new norm". They couldn't be more wrong. I've recently added 3 more Omegas, and negotiated good discounts on all. If you can be patient with major purchases (especially autos), it's very likely that prices will continue falling, even as some slow on the uptake makers are still raising prices. Inflation, and increasing interest rates, and a failing US economy will continue to drive demand down, generally. Of course, demand for a particular item will be a factor, but we're only just beginning to see the ongoing disastrous impacts of the current, exceptionally feckless, US admin.

@@KBD-ONE People are not rich, they just finance things they cannot afford. With 750 credit score, you can finance a rolex explorer for $12,000 and pay it off in 1-2 years. Is it a good idea? No. Is it stupid? Yes. Do people do it all the time, or are they just rich. Yes and no. The average car payment in the US is $568 a month, the people driving these BMW's and mercedes are not rich, they just have huge fucking car payments for 72+ months.

@N A The PO bracelet is much better. The links on the SMPc are too thick and long so it doesn’t go around the wrist properly. Planet Ocean and Aqua Terra are a lot better in that department.

I remember first seeing a speedy and fell in love. It's me grail watch and im working towards owning one. For me I can't help look at a rolex and think is that fake ? It's horrible I know but I never get that feeling from an Omega. The Bond factor has never really been a factor for me even though I'm a fan, weird I know. I love how the watch industry has evolved much like all tech but there's something still magical about those tiny accurate machines. Thanks for another great review.

My finger has been hovering over the “buy it now “ button for a speed master on the Watchfinder site. It’s a 2016 3570.50.00. I bought a submariner new 5 years ago and I’ve seen them for sale, used ,for double what I paid. My main dilemma is, the Rolex price bubble must burst soon, mustn’t it? So do I keep the Rolex or trade in for an omega and some change? I wear my submariner every day, seems a waste to keep locked in a drawer somewhere.Thanks

Omega are a fantastic brand, one of the top most innovative Swiss brands and far more innovative than Rolex ever were(not exactly difficult to be fair), but the "grab them before they go up" is more hype to stoke up an already overheated watch market driven by dealers, flippers and current fashion.

All the Seamaster 300 professional models go up 5% in December. So if you were thinking about it I would act soon. Omega are mopping up all the potential Rolex customers who have been given the flick. The irony of it 🤔 Rolex are helping Omega more than any moon landing story or Bond sponsorship while creating a whole generation of watch enthusiasts who feel Rolex have snubbed them 🤦🏻‍♂️ makes you think 🤔

This is so accurate to my own experience. I own both Rolex and Omega. I’ve bought several watches from my AD, and I’m still on the eternal wait list for an Explorer. And after awhile it just feels silly to play the suck up game to have the privilege to buy a Rolex. It’s losing its charm and causing me to appreciate my omega’s more and more.

People keep saying this. But I think it is nonsense. People have different tastes and appreciate different things in watches. But I guess its a good sales pitch originally from Hodinkee and then parroted by the watch community. When getting into watches I too bought a Speedmaster. I sold it because ultimately instead of buying what I liked I bought what I was told. After getting more hands on experience with watches I realized my own personal taste is not perfectly aligned with the watch community hivemind. And that is fine. I would amend the statement to "everyone who loves the Speedmaster should own a Speedmaster".

It's an excellent watch that has been worn on excellent adventures produced by an excellent company with an excellent heritage with an excellent design. It's also a bargain comparatively. No one is insisting you get one, but it's a great watch.

Wanted this one so badly. Not that it isn't worth it but I couldn't stomach almost double the cost of a regular Seamaster. Instead of selling my current Seamaster Professional, I ended up getting a Tudor BB58 plus an aftermarket mesh and it gets me most of the way there.

I’ve always found it interesting how in every Omega video someone will always say ‘Omega is better than Rolex’ but in every Rolex video no one even bothers to think about Omega. One is trying hard to be compared to the other, but the other doesn’t even consider the other to be on the same level. But yes - Omega and Rolex are equal on paper, and in some ways Omega is better. But that’s on paper - in the real world of real money being spent and brand value being evaluated, Rolex and Omega are in totally different levels.

Not only will the price go up (again), AD'S will make customers play the "game" in order to get a highly coveted timepiece and the grey market will have most of the stock marked up for resale, no matter if Omega tries to fulfill the demand.

Hi Watchfinder I’m a surfer who likes great mechanical watches. I need a watch that will withstand the rigours of my activity. Eg the pressure of a breaking waves is far beyond the depth of the water it breaks in. I think a watch needs to be at least 200m competent to withstand the force of a 6ft wave (which is just overhead in surf size). I had a Rolex Sub date, 2009 model which was a disaster. It was waterproof enough but uncomfortably top heavy and I disliked the date aperture. I also didn’t much care for the association with the manufacturer. I’ve lost three watches in the surf over the years. Two G-shocks and a Tag. One from a fall on a reef and two from seaweed breaking the lug pins, So I’m trying to decide on something more suitable and robust. An Omega 1957 300, a Doxa or a Fifty Fathoms perhaps. My wrist is 19& 1/2 cm but I’d prefer something around 38mm/42mm and possibly with a chronograph 12 hr sub-dial included in a speedy style layout, date not necessary as I’ve not yet in over 40yrs surfed longer than a day😅 It must be either automatic or manual wound though! I’d really be interested in your suggestions and who knows there might be a few surfers who watch your channel who would also enjoy your pro opinion of mechanical surf safe watches as the only ones sold by surfing type shops are Chinese made quartz of miserable quality. 🌞

@ 3:36 that information is false. The Speedmaster was not the ONLY watch on the moon. A privately owned Bulova Lunar Pilot shares that distinction. That would, however, make the Speedmaster the only watch to fail on the moon.

There was also a personal Rolex GMT Master that was brought by an astronaut. But considering there were over a dozen Speedmasters worn on the moon and the only failure being a crystal popping off on one, that’s a pretty good service record.
