@@hivemind010 well all food stores in cold places have heating (perhaps with the exception of in North Korea), because customers don't want to be walking around at -20 degrees to do their groceries.

Chill dudes, to everyone having concern about this guy's hired to advertise how cool NK is, that's normal that the country treats foreigners as privileged because they want to show the outside world they're normal and as abundant as any outside countries, so it's not like he was paid or hired by the NK govrt to show only the good side of NK but he's only allowed to be privileged and live under a good condition. Pyongyang is the best city that only North Koreans with high songbun and foreigners are allowed to live in there, it's like the holy city of the country therefore it's impossible for you guys to see any poor people or whatever terrible you're expecting from these videos, sorry for my terrible english guys.

I have watched a few of these videos that Jaka Parker has put out, why does everyone wear coats inside, is there no heat in the buildings?
@born2biscuit
@born2biscuit 7 лет назад
In this video you can see small AC units on the walls and you can hear them whirring away. They look like small units meant for smaller areas but there are 3 of them that I saw. I don't know how well these would work but I noticed there was a blanket covering the entrance which suggests that the heat is easily sucked out of the store from people opening the door. Also North Korea is known to have power outages often so there would be times where these AC units wouldn't work and there would be no heating at all like you said. But of course there are alternative means for heating that don't require electricity such as kerosene, but I really don't know that much detail about North Korea. When it comes to people wearing coats on the inside I think that would be normal for regular shoppers but for the employees I'm guessing they feel cold inside of the stores because the small AC units aren't effective or their jobs require them to go outside or be in cold areas of the store such as freezers considering it is a food store.
@BRBTechTalk

OR they are one of the few lucky folks that is within the confines of the “elites” and can pay for the high prices and is loyal to the government. 2. Again, that might just be for show and could be inoperable. OR OR OR….. could be for someone that, again, is part of the elite.

This place is interesting how its shielded from view outside. Clearly he has access to products and stores that the residents don't for whatever reason. He indicates that foreigners and diplomats can get to many things others can't. On the flip side though, the people walking the streets and working don't look to be deprived. Hard to say from videos but...they are living no problem. Less police in the streets than you see in america and very low crime so...hard to say it's so bad really. Just weird versus our way of life. If you were born into that though, you probably wouldn't think it was bad at all.

Pyongyang is a wealthier more well off part of the country. Where people live mostly normal lives. It's the country side and poorer villages where all the human suffering is. That's why tours don't go through there, you mostly stay in Pyongyang, that's what the state wants you to see.

I suppose that's not a thing in western countries? In Indonesia, even supermarkets have things like this, they put live fish in a tank for display, you could choose the fish that you want then the staff would kill and cut them, even grill the fish for free if you wish.

+Scott Simpson sorry for my bad english, I hope you understand my comment haha.. Anyone can shop at this store , foreigners and local people all can shopping at this store . Maybe there was something strange with this video ? Where is people? Where's all customers? The video was filmed in January 2016 , which in January 2016, is the most severe winter since the last 100 years , the temperature reached minus 17 overall degree Celsius. People rarely leave the house, that's why it was lonesome . See this pic ->> instagram.com/p/BAyWeGRgCUG/

I find it interesting that all these businesses have computers at the register yet they calculate cost on a simple old school huge calculator.

They use it to convert the dollar paid by the customer. They accept foreign currency.

They look up conversions and do the math on calculator. Not that hard to imagine them doing. A lot of people in the us still do that. An 'old school' calculator is nice to have instead of using a calculator app on the pc.
