Here are 8 items of clothing you might not think about buying... until you NEED them! These are all inspired by my own life as I am the queen of last-minute shopping for things I need instead of thinking ahead and shopping when I actually have the time. The item that popped in my head during your (excellent) video was a lightweight, waterproof rain coat with a hood. Trench coats are great - most don’t have a hood.

I agree that some basic black/dark dressy items (dress, pants, blouse, blazer, dress coat) in case of a funeral. Been to many and the stress of shopping especially if it is someone very close is too much to deal with in the moment. Also a nice outfit for a last minute invite out to dinner with clients, boss or old friend.

I'm retired and have gone from a very polished work environment to spending 99.9 percent of my time in workout clothes. It took awhile to mentally reconcile the change for myself and to give myself permission buy workout clothes look nice and feel nice regardless of the price.

I keep a nice kind of thin white sweater in a zipper bag in the car. The bag keeps it clean and it doesn’t take up much room. I can’t tell you how many times over the summer I have gone to the car for it after sitting down at a restaurant to eat and been so cold. We call it my “car sweater”. I chose white because it doesn’t clash with anything.

Great ideas😊I also think a neutral blazer is also a good idea to have on hand. As a 50 yr old i think it’s important to have 1 basic outfit for the “unexpected”. There were 2 incidents where I had to attend a funeral, (and let me just remind everyone, when someone passes the LAST THING we want to do is go shopping for that) and there I was trying to create an outfit but all I had was casual fun clothes or dressy outfits. It was horrible, not to mention the shoes lol. But after all these years i think I’ve finally learned. I think a blazer would have saved me, but since then I’ve incorporated some basics into my wardrobe😏

For sure!! The last thing you want to wear to a funeral are casual fun clothes... this is a great addition to the list.

Yes rain gear! We haven't had rain in forever so it wasn't even on my radar at ALL but definitely needed when it's needed 😆

A black dress! It ends up being a staple piece, even if you arn't a frequent dress wearer. Just choose one that is versatile enough to wear to a funeral, a fancy restaurant, and fancy diner party, etc.

My answer to your lightweight top layer is a cute utility jacket. Looks a bit more stylish than a cardigan but doesn’t look like outerwear. I wear mine more than my denim jacket just because I wear jeans so often and I’m not a fan of the denim on denim look. I have an army green one and an ecru one and there isn’t much in my closet they don’t look great with. Your ideas are spot on - I think “nice” workout type clothes may be a hole in my wardrobe.

Even if you live in bottoms like sweatpants, leggings, and jeans, it's good to have a nice pair of dress pants, especially if you're not really the type to wear skirts and dresses like me. Black, navy, or grey is a good neutral to have that will work for funerals or any other event that requires you to put your best foot forward.

1. Tights and leggings. Comes in handy for a versatile wardobe item. 2. Corset for retro clothing. 3. Spanks for smoothing out those edges nature likes to endow us with.

Funny to happen on this video. Right now I'm shopping for a lightweight raincoat or windbreaker to take on a summer trip, but this is also something I'd like to have at home. Where I live, it seldom rains, but when it does I always wish I owned a waterproof jacket. So this is the year to deal with that. Your suggestion of having hats before you need it is good too. I own a single black baseball cap which goes with just about everything. It comes in handy for outdoor shopping, or walks in the park. Good video. I'm a new sub. :)

Whenever I stay at a hotel, I always wear/bring PJs that would not be embarrassing for someone to see me in. LOL meaning, not see through or super exposed. Why? First, because we have dogs and it's inevitable there's gonna be a potty-outing during the night. Second, just in case there's an emergency (like a fire alarm), I could dash out without having to find appropriate clothing. Granted, a robe would also satisfy these needs, but I'm usually in warmer climates and I'd be too hot.
