It's nearly 5 years old but it looks and drives like something new. These are still for sale and if you like the sound of trailing arms, floating motor and gearbox and very neutral handling in the air, this rig may appeal.
Let me show you what it's all about!
What this is: Kyosho Rampage Outlaw Pro ARTR kit

I think this Kyosho is very beautiful with that classic and simple air that is very realistic in scale. I have not driven it and I found it very interesting that it is easier to drive than a UDR or the Baja Rey 2.0, I would never have said, being rear-wheel drive. Later he may come home. A greeting from Spain

Great video!!! I really enjoyed your honest and thoughtful perspective on this guy. I have never tried out a trailing arm trophy truck style rig but have been looking at them a lot lately and budget directs me to this little beast. Really like the Rampage. Great truck, love mine. About the spur, they are prone to die quickly ...some where even wrapped/oval from the factory. Team Asso ASC9653 was the got direct replacement back when it was released .... better lifetime and less transmission noise. Or you can go to full metal gearing, though not cheap ... still haven't driven mine since I installed them. Other issue is the steering arms popping once in a while. Change the spur, tighten the slipper, drive it like you stole it.

I did say off-road, yes. On road would be fine. Particularly on lower power, and probably brushed motor, too. Off-road with brushless on 12v? It'll fail, pretty much guaranteed. But I found a steel spur gear so now I'm happy 😊

Ah, yes, I always watch a video with the old KORP to hear their opinions, of course great to hear yours! I have one and I'm sad to say I hate it, it's my worst RC car, he he... I basically only have buggies, and for some reason I got hyped about this a few years ago and got me one, I just think I never understood the point of it... I know I need to give it a chance, so someday I will bring it out and try again, he he. Added bonus comment: There is a Japaese guy on the Facebook group who almost daily posts slow motion clips with his KORP and they are such a joy to watch, worth checking out!
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 4 месяца назад
Thanks. It's your worst car because you don't understand the point of it? Do you mean, specifically, the live rear axle and MOA setup, and why they bothered doing that as opposed to independent suspension arms all round, like a short course or stadium truck? I guess you kind of have to be a bit into trailing arm suspension and live rear axles, and to enjoy that mechanic of the thing. Certainly the car is worse for it, but for what it is, I reckon it drives pretty nicely. Actually, those slo-mo clips you mention are probably the point of these things. Watching it move and work over bumps. That's cool :)

@YoShImUrA53 4 месяца назад
Ah, YES! Was so excited to hear your take on this one, as I feel a bit of an instigator to make you get it! Haha! I'm happy to see it didn't disappoint you, and that, although not perfect (the mesh is a known issue and still didn't sound very healthy at the beginning of the vid), overall I think it went quite well! Let's see how it does against the other 2WD!
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 4 месяца назад
The mesh is concerning. I have it at a consistent 0.5 to 0.8mm gap (the spur isn't perfect) but this is about as close as I can get it while still having a gap. Still doesn't sound right though! Steel spur on the way anyway, so it's inevitable failure won't be an issue.
@YoShImUrA53
@YoShImUrA53 4 месяца назад
@@RCTNT I wonder if by any rare chance Kyosho made a mistake with the pitch of either the pinion or spur, and everyone is going crazy chasing their mesh unsuccessfully because of this?
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 4 месяца назад
@YoShImUrA53 could be, though I didn't notice anything obvious. But yes, that would definitely account for that noise. I suspect there must be regular heat failures on that spur, as that noise won't be the only by-product of incorrect mesh. I mean, even when it was perfect (to my experienced eye), it just shouldn't be this loud! I do think you've got a good theory there, Jorge.

Love my Outlaw Rampage Pro! I use it around the yard. Not the fastest or the basherest but i love watching it move and its a great driving rc too. Does really well in tighter courses and can take a good jump as well. Try swapping in a different pinion and you'll get maybe less noise.
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 4 месяца назад
Thanks for that! I've got a steel spur gear coming so we'll see how that goes. Steel usually means more noise, but this time, who knows. Love how you wrote that, by the way. It's a perfect summary of the thing!

Absolutely would love to see a video that features ALL of the live rear axle independent front suspension vehicles in one long comparison video. Ending with which vehicle gets you the most bang for the buck. I am so tempted to pickup a Kyosho Outlaw Rampage kit, but the one thing that is a non-starter for me is the fact that the motor is on the axle. If it wasn't, I would own it already.
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 4 месяца назад
I may do that. Honestly, it drives better than the others, by a considerable margin. And I've found a steel spur gear for it on AliExpress. It's so much cheaper than the BR2.0 and UDR that it's a very compelling buy. The MOA config seems to really help it with handling, too. I'm a fan of this thing.
@Epsonblade
@Epsonblade 4 месяца назад
@@RCTNT have you changed shock oil weight yet or is it bone stock still? I wonder if you can get it to the point where when it jumps the nose will come up instead. These rear axle trucks, besides the crawlers, the ones that go faster, they're supposed to land on a longer travel rear before the front comes down. A bit of tuning, maybe some weight bias could get it there? I really like it, that one MOA thing aside.
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 4 месяца назад
@Epsonblade that is an important consideration, yes. I always start stock and then look to improve. We have a few things to address for this one's upgrade video. That'll be part of it, yes.

I think it's actually enhanced by being MOA, having driven it now. It's considerably more controllable than the shaft driven BR2.0 and UDR, funnily enough. Definitely not a rig tho. This is a nimble and light speed machine. Crawlers are good for towing tho!

Lol yes, and these are all easy enough to fix. Honestly, even when a solution isn't made for a particular car, you can often retrofit it with a mix of parts to make it work. My Hpi Jumpshot SC V2 is now running 32 pitch gearing that wasn't made for it and its much better. I'd have done the same for this if someone wasn't already making steel gears for it. Good video. I admire your ability to control it so well with a brushless system, especially with the giro turned off. I bought this kit 4 years ago and I put a Traxxas Titan 12t 550 brushed motor and a Traxxas XL5 EZ Set ESC in it, and I have to admit I struggle to drive it in a straight line at speed. The last time I took it out for a run I actually set the ESC to "Training Mode" (50% speed) which I found more controllable. I love the retro look of it which is why I bought it, and why I still have it, but being more of a trail truck enthusiast I find faster 2WD drive RC's a bit of a handful. I've recently bought a Dumbo TX with a giro receiver for it but haven't had the chance to try it out yet. I do however love to drive my old brushless 4WD Axial Yeti Score Trophy Truck which for me is a more controllable and a whole lot of fun. Thanks for this video. I really enjoyed it. Derek 🙂👍🏼👍🏼 ps: Have you got the link to the metal spur gear you mentioned in another comment pease. Thank you.

They race 2wd short course at my local track. Part of me wishes this configuration was more common because of its scale characteristics. Unfortunately, there are aspects of this design that would make running a chassis protector difficult. We run those vinyl protectors so the underside doesn't damage the (very expensive) race carpet. Otherwise this Kyosho looks so cool!
@RCTNT
@RCTNT 4 месяца назад
It wouldn't be too hard to design a pla+ replacement for the alu (?) bash guards. There are plenty of bolt holes, maybe even abs molded shell could be achieved with a cheap vacuum former. You'd want to be keen and have a few cars for all that effort though, I guess!
@Andy_Yates
@Andy_Yates 4 месяца назад
@@RCTNT Yeah I'm sure this could be made to work. Something simple like the vinyl protector would work over the skids. Then sheet over the bumpy plastic underside. Still left with very little adjustments that you'd find on more race oriented kits. It would be for fun exhibition :) it's been so tempting haha
