Buy This Expansion First in Guild Wars 2 - Hint Its Not SOTO 

For everyone who is saying to play PoF first for the Springer, this is good only if you want comfort over playing HoT the way it is meant to be played. I purposefully skipped this to make sure new players enjoy HoT the way old players experienced it when it first came out. You will also appreciate mounts much more if you play HoT without them.

As a casual player, i suggest path of fire because it makes doing metas, events and world boss a lot easier and also to go with groups since most of the player have mounts including springer and verticality in this game is quite a hassel when going place to place on foot.

Heart of Thorns comes with Path of Fire now, there is no way to buy it on its own anymore, so there is extra value in getting both expansions at the same price as EoD. If you buy End of Dragons only, you do get both raptor and springer, but only the basic abilities on both, you don't get any of their masteries as their masteries are still tied to Path of Fire. The Skyscale mount does require either the purchase of Living World Season 4, which is a separate in game purchase and LWS4 requires Path of Fire (you can also grind gold then use the gold to gems system to buy gems for the purchase), or for you to own Secrets of the Obscure.

While mounts take away some of the HoT experience, in exchange for comfort, I'd still think it's better to play it first. If anything, just play PoF until you get the Springer, because it makes traversing the jungle A LOT easier. I'd argue the skimmer could be worth getting before HoT too, since it improves your gliding ability prior to unlocking the masteries for it. When it comes to story, don't play PoF past getting a skimmer if you care about major spoilers. PoF does spoil plenty of important events from all parts of the story that comes before it.

As someone who played HoT at launch, I gotta say, it is AN ABSOLUTE CHORE without mounts! It actually made me quit the game for a few months out of frustration. The maps are large, there's tons of verticality and many mobs hit HARD, so if you need to run away you have to drop down a few floors, which won't be easy to climb back up on foot. If you don't want any spoilers I would recommend this priority list: - buy LW season 2 first because that's the chronological order for story progression, you don't really need mounts for it; - buy PoF+HoT bundle if available or PoF only if not; - play the intro mission which gives you a raptor mount; - level up your raptor masteries (this is important, you can't get springer mount otherwise); - use a teleport-to-friend to access Highjump Ranch (you will need a friend who has the Desert Highlands map unlocked, or you can pay a stranger if you have no friends); - unlock Springer by doing the Renown Heart; - buy HoT if you didn't catch the bundle; - play HoT. By doing it this way, you can get the first 2 mounts without any spoilers. You could get more, but they're not really that important for HoT maps.

If I were to do it all again I would do it in order again. But to my friends who I've recomended the game ive always said if story doesn't matter pick the expansion with the elit specialization that seems most interesting to you.

My personal recommendation would be to get Living world Season 4 before SOTO. This would allow you to start levelling things that make the skyscale more useful including being able to give it an extra wall launch for to reach higher places, (restoring stamina to it), being able to launch off your skyscale in mid air , and being able to give it health if it gets hit while flying. Then when you get into SOTO, your mount will be able to get around the map faster,,, BUT just my opinion because the base skyscale without wall launch or one with 1 wall launch or 2 when you level the walll launch in soto will make map exploration much easier. Advanced gliding from Heart of Thorns is very nice, but takes quite a while to level. Having every mount is nice, but takes a while and 1 skyscale is a jack of all trades - Even though it's not the best at one type of movement, you'll be able to go anywhere if you do the achievement that lets you use it outside of the SOTO map.

i'm a new player and i haven't got any expansions yet. i've looked at what many youtubers say about expansions and for me and for many other youtubers aswell are saying that HoT and PoF is the best expansions to get.

Good luck in hot without a springer. So my suggestion is first pof for as you sed the mounts and then lw4 so you can run some metas in istan and dragonfall for example. You also need lw4 for skyscale if you dont get soto.

Do they even sell Heart of Thorns by itself anymore? I think it's bundled with Path of Fire now. You get both for $30.

Heres my advice as a real new player. Get SotO!!! i bought all the expansions after leveling my character to 60. Started a few weeks ago. I tried HoT first to continue the story, but honestly i HATED the dense jungle and verticality. Its a complete 180 from the base game. Thematically it makes sense but its a chore to play through and map complete. Then i learned Skyscale was more obtainable in SotO.... so i went there. Some points, Skyscale is still a lot of effort, it took me 4-5 days of heavy playing but in the time i finished the entire SotO story and map completion. So honestly for a casual player a 2-3 weeks or a month and you'll finish everything and you get the Skyscale. And that has been a GAME CHANGER for the older expansions. Its so much better to traverse and explore with it. Also the SotO story is a good one and doesnt really spoil anything from the old expansions. And you get to use a Skyscale for free the entire time you are in the the SotO maps to quest/explore *Edit: in the end youll also want PoF and HoT combo so you can get elite specializations. But if you enjoyed the base game f2p enough to consider buying it's 100% worth to get all the expansions

SoTo imo is for veteran players, since its a bite sized piece.. which I love. But if you're new to the game, and just hit 80 I'd say 100% get HoT.. PoF has the features, but the maps aren't exactly as popular.

You seem to do a few things when ranking the Expansions. You discount elite specs You discount quality of maps You discount meta-event quality You discount money making possibilities You discount usefulness of Masteries The biggest issue though is you discount Living World Season 2. As if you are saying do the story in order, then you should be buying the season 2 bundle first before anything else. The video clearly should have been "you should play the game like we all did back in the day, and learn to glide before learning to fly. Reality is... the expansions should be valued differently depending on the profession you main. Elite specs are generally a huge part of the day to day enjoyment of the game and buying the expac that gives you access to the one you wish to play first is key here. The same with if you wish to play Revenant at all. Do you want to play a more ranged Guardian? HoT... If you want to run around as an engineer with a rifle and a big robot by your side? EoD If you want to go play on convoluted multi-dimensional maps where you will get lost and often times dead by pocket raptors? buy HoT! If you want to play on mostly flat maps with deadly ground all over the place... then PoF

rofl Bruh at lest get it right, it was 4 mounts, for free, then you'd have to pay 150 gold for Griffon. Skyscale and Warclaw were added in LS4. Man it's so funny when plebs make videos about shit they barely know and the raid and strikes part is also inaccurate but from what i see you haven't been in one then you would know they came out periodically with ISB5 not with an expansion 😂 But hey plebs gonna pleb 🤷 Edit: the fact you need that much to kill Vinetooth with a biggest burst class is enough for me 😂😂😂
