Earlier this year I was thinking about buying a fully specced out Razer Blade but then I realized I could just buy an M1 Macbook Air for everything I have to do on the go and spend the rest building a PC and it's been the best decision I've ever made tbh
Thanks for the unbiased review! Im sorta settled for the razer as its clean looking so i can use it at work and also play games after work. I was initially going for the full speced model, but have read about their top tier model being bottlenecked giving in reality only a few percent more benchmark scores than the lower tier model with a 3070ti. So i wanted to confirm to get the lower tier model for the best bang for the buck. A 1000€ extra to get their top tier model is really insane knowing tech values change very fast.
@@jaskarankang3604 i didnt buy any yet. Will see whats good on cyberday.. if theres a good offer i might go for it. Currently leaning more towards Asus m16 or until the new Razers blade drop with the oled screen.
I hate how companies have just decided "Cooling doesn't matter, it just needs to be thin". I don't know about the rest of you but I would be more than happy with a thicker laptop of it meant I could actually get the performance out of the components that I paid for.
@@cemsengul16 That will do effectively nothing. Maybe a degree or two but that means nothing if the heatsink isn't big enough to deal with the thermals. If anything it will make it heatsoak faster because of the quicker heat transfer.
@@cemsengul16 Liquid metal ain't going to drop the temperatures that much if the cooling solution is at it's limit. I have not seen once anywhere, on any of the tech channels I watch or even anywhere on the internet, a temperature drop of 20c from liquid metal. Sounds to me like it just had garbage paste to begin with or it was just dirty. That is the only situation where that could happen. One thing I've learned about high end laptops is that the thermal paste is only just good enough to cut back on cost.
I've had nothing but issues with my recent Razer laptops. I first tried the Razer Book, and the keyboard and hinge were faulty. Now I have a Razer Blade 14 with AMD, and the screen has random vertical artifacts in the center screen. Works alright with Fedora OS.
I have one Razer Blade advanced 2021 with RTX3080. It's really hot and noisy if your OS is windows, but not that much when running in Linux. So now when I do my daily work like coding or web browsing, I use Ubuntu as my OS. After work, I reboot into windows to play games. This is also an alternaive use choice.
They shouldve done it like asus tuf and acer nitro laptops where igpu is used for light tasks and when doing heavy work or connecting to monitor it should use rtx
Just bought a Zephyrus G14 a few weeks ago and I love it! It gets great battery life and gaming performance is fantastic! The Blade series is good but I'm not sure about spending all that extra.
Have a 2021 G14, want to upgrade to a 2022 since the better display would be more beneficial for the work I do. Doesn't seem like any Canadian retailers are carrying it just yet though.
All that extra does get you a lot more than the G14. The Zephyrus stuff is good but people don't talk about the corners ASUS cuts to bring the price down.
The heat issues have always been a thing with Razer laptops. I think the next models need to really address it. I really like the form factor as well and if they want to keep it I believe they need to change the materials its made out of. Either that or bite the bullet and make it a bit thicker, add better fans, and maybe make the entire bottom ventilated. Somethings got to give, especially at this price.
as a razor owner, the heating is a huge problem for me, the area right above the F keys gets super hot and can hurt my fingers if i try to play a heavy game, but given my computer is 4 years old
There is a super easy fix that Razer just hasn't done. Liquid Metal drops the Blades temps by over 10c, combined with even a small undervolt (very easy to do) will see the CPU drop from 100c down to the low 80s. The GPU temp have never been an issue on the 2018+ Blades. Lenovo, Dell, Asus & MSI have all converted to liquid metal but for some reason Razer just won't do it despite the massive benefit.
Any laptop with this kind of form factor will have heating issues... Cap the framerates, dont block th e vents and it should be fine. Its only stupid users who dont know what they are doing are the ones conplaining about this.
@@zihuatenejo i literly have my computer floating to get more airflow form the fans underneath, and my resolution set to 1080p instead of 4k and my computer still burns my hands
Thanks for this, I was seriously considering the Razer 15, and your honest opinions here, unlike in other videos really helped me decide to buy the base model.
I bought the razer as a desktop replacement and its the perfect laptop for that scenario. Loving my rtx 2060 laptop i got back in 2019, though the major downside is the battery only getting me 5hrs but in 98% of my days I don't use it that much anyways
I have to 2021 rtx 3060 model and don't deal with the best issues you guys were talking about. Even when playing AAA games, sure it gets warm, but never unusable. I believe that is an issues with the 3080 model specifically.
I’ve seen so many people have issues with Razer laptop batteries becoming bloated, I’m sure many laptops have that issue but like damn really puts you off
I think it honestly has to do with people not checking temps on their laptops, I’ve had my blade for around 3 years now and no issues, knock on wood. I did a thermal pad mod to the laptop, basically putting thermal pads on the laptop so the bottom lid acts like a heat sink and I’ve been fine with temps
Owned this laptop for 3 weeks and ive come across a few problems.... Overheating and shutting down, I've re-pasted and the laptop has improved 2/3% ive ordered some thermal pads from China and hoping the temps will drop. Other then thats the laptop is beautiful, i mean stunning. Razer have built the perfect laptop - the temps.( such a shame ) get the temps right with the thermal pads and nothing on the market will beat it. Period
@@texas3258 no not really. I just re-pasted with the artic mx3 and used a laptop stand ( well ones you wedge under the back) just lifted the rear by around 3-5 cms and worked a treat. Also running in balanced mode ans fans set to full. Most games are fine but warzone eats the cpu. Hitting 80s 90s regularly
@@leechurchill5182 Amen, same problem with 2070 and warzone, it has now expanded my battery from overheating, also synapse keeps crashing randomly - software a bit buggy and same problem with audio. Not happy with it, but much better experience then Dell XPS 15 😄 Next one is gonna be Asus M16 or Flow x16
I have a razer blade from a couple years ago, i7 9700 and 2060 I believe (too lazy to check) it works great for portable gaming. I bring it with me when I want to game while visiting family or anything. It runs apex amazing at 144hz on the 1080p display that mine has.
As gamer and professional I have to point out a few misinformations ; Apple/Macbook always gets praised in terms of heat and fan noise in comparison, but the GPU is not even comparable. They dodge this scenario with the argument: "oh but it's not designed for gaming, for this for that..." I don't buy that, I pay premium price I want to throw whatever I want to, and expect my computer to handle it. Also , there are modes in the software; in silent mode, you can still do basic editing, photoshop work, light 3D design, do some gaming with minimum noise and heat. I have just finished Sifu this way , you can surely play phone games as well ;) battery life is truly sh*t though
Yeah I don’t get it like Mac doesn’t even compete with other windows laptops out there when it comes to heavy gpu tasks n his reasoning for razer not useable as a laptop is cus he can’t use it on his lap gaming laptops are called gaming laptops for a reason and these guys keep failing to mention that everytime they shit on any gaming laptop.
@@MrWang. absolutely my friend I think Microsoft nailed this generation let's see what we get next, im pretty optimist about handheld gaming ... I think it has potential to beat the consoles in future considering the fact that an iPhone 12pro max is at par in Graphics performance with PS4 Pro ... also services like Game pass and Apple Arcade
@@willphoenix2621 The Iphone comparison is not good for one I kind of surprise you didn't look this up one came out in 2014 the other that get close came out in 2020, the other thing it all comes down to what games you want and the platform you have the greatest hardware in the world if they aren't games that are using the power what is the point.
@@footballtalk4857 2016! yes but the way its catching up is amazing, also most people these days game on phone ... handheld market is pretty strong and growing.. switch selling off shelves is a sign of it
@@willphoenix2621 Yes alot people do play games on the phone but an old iPhone can also play those games that are popular like I said for some that's all you need but for the AAA games the console/pc will likely be your best friend
Tested this laptop too and I can confirm, 3080ti is way too much for this chassis. Warm to the touch does not bother me as I prefer it to an ice cold laptop. Only moment it really gets uncomfortable is in gaming where it really is hot, but again I don't game on my lap.
I bought a Razer 15 a couple years ago. The ONLY thing I don't like about it is the heat!!! Man that thing gets hot!! But, when you need lots of power, heat is the result. Too bad there isn't some kind of add on that you can throw in a separate bag or something for when you need extra cooling power. Whoever invents that will make lots of money.
I have a Razer Blade 15 Advanced 2021 and here it is in 2023 (1.5 years after purchase) and I am having to have the Daughterboard and Charging port replaced. The laptop has been on my desk, raised on a laptop stand, with chords not getting unplugged and replugged constantly. For a major part to fail after only 18 months is unacceptable for such an expensive piece of gear. And now that I have some more research, this is a common thing with these laptops. To top it off.. Razer only offers a 1 year warranty. Originally bought it so that when I go on deployment (Active Duty Military) I would have a decent spec pc I can bring with me. After I get back in February, I am building a tower and moving on. I will never recommend or buy another Razer pc.
I don't like a windows gaming laptop being compared to a macbook, they are very different machines. I've been a windows gamer all my life and when I went to college I decided to buy a macbook for my studies. I shit you not, I felt like I spent $1500 on a toy that ran an outdated mac version of Microsoft word (which was all that was available at the time) on a somewhat nicely built laptop. One of the biggest regrets of my life. I could have just bought a $200 small and light windows netbook
Still have my mercury white razer blade 15 2019 model with a 2070 and i don't see myself replacing it for a more powerful laptop as heat is a big problem and if i want to play demanding games I'll just play it on a much less expensive pc build comfortably, laptop is for travel and i travel a lot so i can game wherever i go 2070 can play anything as long as you don't expect to play at 4k.
Zephyrus G14 is where it's at, i have the 2020 edition and it can run my school programs no problem, and pretty much any game as well. It does get hot, but name a gaming laptop that doesn't.
First laptop I ever bought was a ROG G14 (R4600/gtx1660ti) and I can safely say overall it is perfect! wouldnt change it for the world, unless i won the lotto or something haha.
I've got the 2018 razor blade 15 with the 1070 max q. And it's sad razor hasn't figured out the thermals. This thing is beautiful but it's impossible to touch when in use. I've had to repaste everything atleast once a year or the thermals get worse. I got that laptop because the head of IT bought it to try and switch from Mac OS, couldn't and I needed a laptop. If I'd had to pick or spend my own money it wouldn't be one of these.
I really want a new Blade with the 4K screen and a minimum 32 GB of RAM for video and photo editing, I just wish I could compromise on the CPU and GPU. I definitely do not need the top CPU and a 3080 Ti, they're far too excessive for my needs and draw too much power. If I could spec my laptop as a 3060 and get the 32 GB of RAM and the 4K screen, I absolutely would. While I'm sure you can do something like that with the Creator spec 14s, I really do like the 15 and 17 inch form factors. It's tough, I wish Razer had more customizability.
Why can’t windows laptops figure out having the laptop quiet and cool on the lap while doing normal productivity? My 2014 MacBook Pro is a better productivity device then any of these work/gaming laptops because it doesn’t try to nuke my legs whenever I open three chrome tabs.
I’ve held many MacBooks and I’ve have to take them off of my lap many times before because they were so hot. and how are you comparing a device from 2014 to 2022? obviously 2022’s is gonna run louder and hotter, it has so much more going on in it.
@@okboomer1453 that’s not how it works. Consumer CPUs are built on a transistor node and have a set power limit. As we go from year to year the transistor node decreases for the CPUs resulting in a more powerful and power efficient CPU. It is the way SONY is able to release a launch version of a console and then a slim version a couple years later. They are both identical in performance, but the slim version that comes out a few years later is built on a smaller transistor node, so it uses less power and thus generates less heat. Apple is just better more power efficient with its CPUs while a lot of windows devices fit the most powerful & hottest CPU they possibly can so it looks better on paper.
That's basically going to be Louis rossmann level damage at that point in a couple of months or weeks or whatever that's going to melt and desolder in delaminate everything get Asus Also the mac comparison is because apple and razer are "razor thin" workstation class thats what he means core i9, top end gpu etc
I’m currently looking for a razor laptop. After I had my razor 17” motherboard got fried. Thanks for being real about the specs. You got my attention 👍🏽
I have a 2018 razer blade 15 adv. i recently bought a 14 inch base model macbook pro because i was so ashamed to sit in my class with my razer. The fan spins and produced a constant whine in the class right after booting up. The new mac is freezing cold and dead silent. They got me first time being macbook of windows. But, this time i got the original thing of what razer tried to be.
The 3080ti may not be wort it for gaming but are the higher tier GPUs worth it for productivity? Even though the TDP is the same as the less expensive options, the 3080ti has physically more cores as well as other benefits compared to the 3060 or 3070.
I have the 2022 blade 15 with the 3080ti and i7 12700k. I really think its that i9 that makes it that hot. I wanted to 3070ti model but it was out of stock at the time. When using mine on my lap its hot but not unbearable. My living space is usually cold so i guess in a way it feels good.
I got the Blade 2021 3070 and it's just awesome, didn't go for the 3080 due to the same, power up, overall if you got the means to get a blade is a fantastic piece of tech
I have a razer blade previous gen. I’ve never had any issue with the keyboard being too hot. It gets a little warm but not terrible. I do agree tho 3060 or 3070 variants would be better value
Just got a Dell G15 Ryzen Edition with Ryzen 7 and RTX 3050ti and outside of only having 4GB of vram (which can be avoided by getting a RTX 3060 version) it's a really good laptop I can't recommend enough.
Dell sucks at the moment when it comes to bios all their devices except the xps line up just isn’t worth the money…I made a really bad choice getting an Alienware with ryzen cus the system keeps stuttering and lagging when connected to charger…I really hate that dell is ruining one of the best gaming laptops
Oh it will have the same issues but not as hard or as fast. But razer laptops are always very warm where the hands should rest. Not usable in the summer at all.
So if you had to recommend a top of the line gaming laptop that had good cooling without the fans being overly loud unless really pushing the hardware. What laptop would you recommend?
I have last years model of the 15 I love mine I play rebirth on it and I get over 120 frames I love it for mobile gaming I stick a fan under it and ramp the fans up it stays pretty cool.
I’m looking for a good enough laptop for gaming. I’m not looking for anything complex, it just needs to be good enough to run my games without lagging.
I ended up going with a G14 and while there are a couple places that the Razer would win hands-down in terms of build quality (keyboard and overall feel), I think the G14 wins in terms of thermal performance. Yes, it gets hot under load, but the fans move an absolutely staggering amount of air. Plus, doing my normal work-related tasks, the fans hardly ever kick on.
This is a top tier gaming laptop for people who want the best build quality out of their gaming laptop. This is not for people who want to just watch RU-vid and type some docs etc. This is the best feeling and constructed gaming laptop. It’s for people who have the money, and don’t make comparisons between this or that. For some of us, this is the only option.
I do like the similar design to the MacBook and the rgb keyboard is just cool no matter what anyone says, a bit worried on what I hear because I’m looking for a new laptop/computer and I had my eyes on razer 15 3070ti for quite a while. Compared to a MacBook Air (2017) how much better is this including the cooling and all that?
Firstly, a MacBook Air is absolutely a terrible idea for gaming. And it's not really a fair comparison, but my 2015 model MacBook Air has absolutely HORRIBLE cooling. I can't say for 100% sure whether it's worse than a Razer, but from what all these reviewers are describing, a Blade is nowhere near the cooling issues I have with the MacBook. Under light load, it's uncomfortable to the touch, especially around the WASD area and along the screen, but even when I played Roblox back when I first got the laptop it was burning my fingers. Just terrible cooling solution. If you're going to get a MacBook, get anything but the Air. If it's either this or the Air for you, definitely go for Razer for better performance and cooling.
the razer devices are good but please do not get a 14/15 with anything other than like a 3060, 105 watts is just not enough for a 3070ti. The 17 has big power delivery but even then still stick to the 3070ti UNLESS you need more cores for work or something, I am speaking purely about gaming. Asus has MUCH more power for less money in still a nice looking device with much better cooling although in a thicker device.
Had two razor laptops so far. A blade 15 144hz 1660ti and currently using a blade 14 3080 (2021) . Going all in for the blade 17 when the mobile 4000 series drops
Is the size of the 14 as bad as I'm thinking it is? I want a laptop for school, video and photo editing, and gaming on the side. I need the 32GB and the 4K screen, which I believe the 14 offers for much cheaper than 15 and 17, but I'm concerned about the size.
@@raynjpg it doesn't feel too small like at 13. It's a great size for productivity and gaming. It doesn't have 4k or 32gb ram (you can't upgrade it either) options tho so you might want to look elsewhere. Razer still has the best build quality tho, but 4k laptops usually get the premium gpus so they won't be cheap.
@@myricalcampbell6156 yeah, i went back to their website right after this comment and forgot to correct myself. looks like i'll be avoiding the 14, as I at the very least wanted 32GB of RAM and the QHD screen. i did find a 17" with 32GB of RAM and the UHD with the 3070 Ti instead of the 3080 Ti, and I'd save a couple hundred bucks, but man it's still hard to call it on a decision like this. I'll probably look around at other brands, but it's hard to beat the build quality and looks of a Blade.
@@raynjpg you might want to look at an external monitor if you will be working at at home, if not there aren't many options below 2 grand for what you want
I would point out that if this may be your ultimate purchase, it’s reasonable. I am 64 and looking for my “last machine”/ Do you want a Razer mouse from the 1990’s? I have one, back when they were the first mouse to address gaming, purchased online? I have one. Bidding may commence…
I really hope Razer improved the durability of the keyboard RGB LEDs. At work we use a couple of previous generation Razer 17 models and all of them have burned out LEDs. Not what I expected from premium laptops. 👎
In short, windows laptops are just in efficient so they are upgrading so much that gets so hot and battery sucks. They built a culture of power, high end and high specs but they are inefficient for apps or games.
2yrs ago I bought the nitro 5 thinking yes I got a budget gaming laptop. Didn't realize it's the 2019 model.. that can't play call of duty etc. And it isn't compatible with windows 11.. so now I need more input before buying just any gaming laptop
Playing games at 4k144hz, even Bloons is gonna push pretty much everything in there. Cap the FPS or upscale it might help. But then again, there's nothing Apple could ever do to make it worth it for me personally lol
