“We’ve just been beaten out of the market,” says real estate broker AJ Kenth, unable to buy a home since the pandemic. High inflation and interest rates are keeping many from becoming first-time home buyers in Montreal. Alyssia Rubertucci reports.

Please do understand how many Canadians have more than two kids, if birth rate fallen then government looks to immigration. I agree that current government didn’t do very well in that regard. Don’t expect PP to fix it right away if he becomes PM. We will need to be patient with new regime.

Yup, and this is happening in other advanced countries, too. The goal internationally seems to be to prohibit people from getting on the property ladder, thus making them all slaves to landlords. It is happening where I am in Phoenix, in Dublin, in London, and in major cities in the western world. The dream of home ownership isn't just disappearing; it's being stolen.

Ah yes. The first time home buyer wanting to buy a detached home as their first house. You have to work your way up that ladder. You can just go out and buy your dream house right away....

Plenty of people thought that. They could not afford to upgrade even after the price increase. Its a rat race and most wont win. So stop running, enjoy the place you live in and lets slow down please.

That's what happens when you import half of India & China. Basic supply & demand. What did you expect?

This fear of missing out is the reason why people are defaulting on their mortgages. If you CANNOT afford your dream house buy somewhere else. If the numbers don’t add up, DO NOT buy!!! Canadians are house poor and this way of thinking needs to stop. A house does not define you! This world is huge!!

Yes canadians. Run away to montreal. Make it unaffordable for locals. Dont engage with your democracy like your rights allow you too, to solve issues like they do in europe or many more recently democratic nations in asia. Just make those issues another persons problem because it sooo hard to participate in our democracy. Just my opinion.

Refugees fleeing housing prices from the rest of canada lol. Because its soooo hard to vote and to push for change in a democracy where we have the rights to do so. Sorry learn from the europeans. They stand up and participate in their democracy it seems whether its farmers or labour rights. Or learn from the asian countries which struggled for democracy and now have it. Yeah its not easy, but if one chooses to disengage from our democracy....good luck.

Better than no discussion at all. At least all the issues are in the open. Maybe our society will actually start to solve these issues instead of running away to other places and causing them to also be unaffordable for locals.
