I bought another comic book collection and need your help choosing which ones to send to CGC. Instagram: verygary_comics Donations and Fan Mail: Very Gary Comics PO Box 171 Lagrangeville, NY 12540 #comicbooks #comicbookcollection #cgc
@@joeydrakeward4077 I agree. The collections history should have no bearing on the purchase unless it was bought on the blind which Gary would have to own so either way.....Gary stop the whining! It's in poor taste. It comes off like you were embarrassed by the purchase. It's okay to foul a ball off.
your videos kept me sane while having covid alone in a room for two weeks ..thank you for your vids i appreciate them. im ok now and back to the real world . keep it comic brother !
Less than $2 a book overall with some 8.0+ keys and you'll make most of the $1,500 (or all +, depending on the grades) back on just the ASM 37 and 129. Great pick up and no way you did overpay, in spite of the volume of garbage in there. Book to send: SW 8, ASM 252, Batman 457, X-Men 129 and ASM 300.
I’d kill to find a score even half as good as this in Australia. This was easily worth 1500, if you ever sell x men 32 I’d be interested. One of the few I need to complete a full x men run 1-544
Hey Gary, Looking like a nice fine so far, I am 6 mins in and looks like a bit of a time capsule with the Wolverine mini, X-Factor 1/2's etc, First Bishop etc. looking forward to the rest of vid... Some pretty weird condition issues, maybe on where they have been stored over the years. :D Greetings from Scotland
Gary you lucked out with that collection with some great keys for the price. Even with the condition of many of those books it’s hard to bargain with someone to get a price like that. For the books I’d like to see Batman 457, Omega Man 3, Uncanny X Men 129, Daredevil 168, ASM 300. Great video as always, happy holidays!!
A lot of books for sure... $price seems ok but you have a very sharp eye...Asm129, Asm300, MshSW8, Nm98 Xmen &Batman books 👍all the best for New Years.. cheers and stay safe..
It's been 30 years since you could wander into a garage and find a box of comics that the person had no idea what they could possibly have. You are very lucky my friend? Absolute envy understates watching you flip thru that trove wtg
Gary Great fun video as always. I think you got a great deal for the price. Should have another video What else was in the other boxes? Was there a lot of duplicates? I have been buying for over 35 years and do a local show for 10 years. Surprisingly not everyone is looking for the keys. Looking forward to your next video
Nice video ,my choice = the Batman Tim drake issue, X-men 129, asm300, Wolverine #1, X-men #142...just going with my gut ...& think that it’s a no brained towards selling , someone will need/ want any one of these books ...but like you don’t know that already. Great to see ya with another collection...means future videos. Thanks for all the hard work that goes with making these videos ...always impressed by the great content.
Great video, After cgc costs and new bags and boards, time in for cleaning and pressing... you'll make your money plus profit... don't know if it will be a lot of profit. But I'd be down for buying some of those. Lol
Yay, you found another collection. I understand your disappointment for the condition of the books, being that they were from a LCS. Save as many as you can. ASM 252,300. Batman 457. SW 8. NM 98. Keep it comics.
Awesome as always. I'd say ASM 300, Rocket Racoon and Deadpool. You're right about the condition, I'd expect better from a shop. With the amount of newsstand comics you showed you might be looking at the very picked over back issues that were left over when they closed. Just own it now - that strawberry shortcake is going in the personal collection
The Old Man picks Brave & Bold 200, Bats 457, Omega Men 3, DD 168, and Sec Wars 8. Good luck moving those X-Men & X-Force 1’s. When I ran a shop called Comics America back in the 90’s, we used them for door prizes at any special event we held.
Continue to hold your ground on the conditions of modern (1980's books and up). It seems people are starting to give a pass to books from the 1980's....I have even seen some people saying "Oh...well...these books are 30-35 years old"...like they are silver age books. I think you need to address this Gary. There are A LOT of unscrupulous behaviors in comic collecting today. CGC grading has become a HUGE money maker and it's comic pros like you Gary that must hold the industry accountable. A golden or silver age (books from the late 70's and earlier) were produced during a time when there were VERY FEW direct outlets. Books had to survive life on a rack in a convenience or grocery store...being read by kids waiting on their mom to shop, rolled up in your back pocket and thrown in a toy drawer. My first Silver surfer number 1 ( a $40,000 plus book today) was read a million times and I used it to trace / learn to draw! An 8.5 and above from the 70's and earlier is literally a historical artifact. A golden age book? Worth the value of a car or more. Books from the mid 80's and up going for thousands of dollars when there were LITERALLY millions printed of some issues is freaking ridiculous and 8.5 or less from that era is like finding a penny in a swimming pool of pennies....meaning not hard at all. When a collector TRULY has a collection of 9.4 and above books from the mid 80's.....bagged/boarded and stored with care for over 30 years it seems people don't care other than "WHAT ARE THE KEYS!!!" and an allow 9.0's and 8.5's carry the same weight....no......not the same thing..... Sorry to rant but if we are going to keep collecting meaning ANYTHING and not let current collecting go the way of the 1990's and destroy the industry (it may be too late...look at D.C. imploding) then rarity and condition must mean something......
Just getting into collecting from a local lcs, setting up pull lists, emailing about variant covers before foc, and now am looking at buying lots/collections. This video just gets me hyped that there collections like this out there to find, the books aren’t pristine, but I’d rather find coveted books in a downgrade, then meh in a 9.8. I feel like a asm 300 or secret wars will only grow in value
Wolverine #1, Batman #357, X-Men #129, DD #168, Hulk 271 Love it when you let us “watch over your shoulder” as you look through those collections. Good luck with those CGC’s...
First Jason Todd, Batman error book, first appearance of Lobo, the first Transformers, and the first appearance of hell fire club. That's so crazy how beat up those books are from a comic shop. I mean my 90s books are rough but I was 5,6,7 years old then too hahaha
It’s awesome to go through boxes of comics. That’s part of the fun. Here’s my vote, Batman 357, transformers 1, uncanny xmen 129, ASM 300 and daredevil 168. Good luck, man!
Gary, to be brutally honest, the condition of the books and the price you paid, made me weep. I think you were very generous with your offer, but hopefully you won't lose money. My choices to send are: Brave and the Bold # 200, Batman # 357, Uncanny X-Men # 142, Secret Wars # 8 and New Mutants # 98.
First of all, I feel you are very fair to these sellers who have very questionable mid to high grade books. Right away my picks are Secret Wars 8, ASM 299+300, Batman 357 and 457 (New Mutant 1 came close for my fifth pick! Enjoyed your video!
My top five picks to go to CGC: 1. Wolverine #1 2. Batman #457 3. Secret Wars #8 4. Daredevil #168 5. X-Men #142 Cool review. And Happy New Year! And God bless.
I almost feel shamed by this video. I buy for the love of reading the books. I have maybe half of what you found. I’ll say my 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s books are likely bought all low grade because I couldn’t afford what you found, single issues, in a high grade like a ASM 300. With this said, if you paid 1500 for 8 long boxes that include Amazing Spider-Man 37, 129, 252, 300, X-Men 129, 142, Hulk 271, Daredevil 168 and two new mutants 98....You made out like a bandit because the seller should have got more out of you, which he knew what he had. Regardless of condition, the collection paid for itself and all are flip able. I’ll give you 1500 for that collection. Lol
i know that collection is worth way more the $1500 idk why he is mad about it so much a real comic fan wont go just off price of a comic but the history behind it i love my shitty condition 1950s tales from the crypts i dont care they are graded a .5 and 3 ect ... they are a amazing part of comic book history i would of paid 1,500 in a heart beat to preserve that colletion falling into the hands of someone who resales or is in it for the money
I used to collect comics as a kid. All of this modern jargon is confusing. Lol. Was cool to see that I own a lot of those X-men comic books and will dig them out of my parents attic for my kids. Cool vid man. Just subbed.
That's so disappointing! The number of books that should be great are in bad condition. :-( I went to a comic shop close to an old job where the owner was old and nothing (and I mean nothing) was in very fine condition, let alone excellent. Here are the books I think you should send out: New Mutants 98, ASM 300, Secret Wars #8, Uncanny X-Men 242, and ASM 299. I think you will eventually make a profit from this collection, but it probably won't be much. Good luck and Happy New Year Gary!!!
Bro, and I use that term very California style, don't whine about deciding to spend dirt prices on dirt copies of books LOL. You and I both know you got way more than your money's worth & salvaging efforts are noble! Now that they are in your care, they will only thrive more :-) ASM #298, 299, 300, Batman #357, and Omega Men #3 … With a shout out to that 9.0 New Mutants #98 :-) Happy new year in advance!
Hey Gary been watching the channel for about a year, love the content keep doing you my friend! I vote for Batman 457, ASM 300, ASM 252, Secret wars 8, ASM 299! You made this one hard, keep it comics!
I've never been overly concerned by grades, so long as everything presents well idc if it's a 4 or a 9. I'd be over the moon with the first Deadpool, Punisher or Venom haha. I vote ASM 300, Batman 357, New mutants 98, Uncanny 129 and Secret wars 8. Good pulls man!
i think i agree with everyone in this comments section: he got a steal at $1500. you have immediate 50c/$1/$2 bins, as well as stuff for your own collection and then the keys (some of which you have doubles of) would pay at least ~50% of what you paid.... so overall great buy!. But i guess the disappointment of the grades is all very subjective. most people who actually LOVE comics may not necessarily care about the grades. For you it seems that the grade of the key is what is collectible. and if that's what you love in your collection then i hope you find what you are looking for. I need to start buying people's collections.
Batman 357, Omega Man 3, New Mutans 98, Secret Wars 8, X-Men 142. Hoping your Wolvy Mini Series where in good shape. Would have picked ASM 252 & ASM if they looked in better shape :) Thanks again for the awesome vid and GL in the wild. 1500 doesnt look too bad at all, just a lot of work to sell off some of the runs that you do not want to keep. Looks like a sound purchase to me just based on a few books. Greetings from Scotland
As a Brazillian that travelled very few times, Wolverine #1 (1988) in one of my most steemeed items in my collection. I truly love Buscema's run with the character. I have the first 4 or 5 issues of this series. So I'd vote for it along with the Secret Wars issue 8, Batman #357, The Brave and the Bold #200 and Batman #457. God bless!
Thanks for the video, Gary. You were nice enough to give the guy a free comic when you under-paid maybe this guy will give you a free comic because you over-paid :). Hard to choose five but...Hulk 271, Secret Wars 8, ASM 299, Brave and the Bold 200 and Omega Men 3.
Suggestion - uniquely label your bulk purchases. Call this one "Dec 2020 - 1" if this was your first purchase in Dec 2020 or something. You can then put that label in your titles so when you do follow ups on this exact collect, such as selecting the books to be sent off and/or when the come back, we could tie the vids together easily. This will also help viewers many months or even years from now. Anyways - just a suggestion. Cheers.
Just discovered your channel Gary. For my money I would choose: 1. Secret Wars 8 2. Hulk 271 3. Daredevil 168 4. ASM 300 5. Wolverine 1 I would also consider the Claremont/Miller Wolverine issues. I think Deadpool is almost played out with the movies, so I dont see much more upside to that book. He may get another movie, but I don't see it going up from there. Anyone who wants the book has it already. Venom still has some potential, contingent on future movie tie-ins with the MCU, but its likely to be a while before that happens. Elektra has a lot of positives, again contingent on what they do with Daredevil, so its not a book thats going to explode anytime soon. The Transformers seem to have some nice momentum as they constantly seem to have new toys coming out. Its also a bit nice since the book came out in 1984, rather than the late 80s/early 90s when print runs were huge. The X-Men 142 is a nice steady book to own. There has almost always been a market for it. The same could be said for the 129, but I see the 129, which I see as a more important key, although the 142 has a more important story. I don't tend to see the collection as a bust, it just might take a little longer than you might like to get your money back out of it. If there are 3000 books, you are in it for about $0.50 per book. Take them to a con and list the non-keys for $2-3 per book and make a quick flip. Good Luck!!! Patrick
It’s a nice collection. My votes Batman #357, The Uncanny X-Men #129, TASM #299, Omega #3 and The New Mutants although I would have liked to see some of that TMNT ship out. Thanks for sharing, enjoy your week.
O bought one stabbed book from eBay. My only other CGC book is a Gold CGC Signed (by Layman) issue Chew #1 i had him ink at the Denver ComicCon a few years ago.
Gary, you got tO go with all of the Symbiote books Spidey 252, 300, Secret wars 8. The 1st transformer and Wolverine 1. I think all solid books with potential to rise in value
It's a cool 90's time capsule. I get why the ASM 300 not being a 9+ is a bummer, but slabbed at even a 7.0 would pay off a decent chunk of that collection.
