@@hondayamahafan Honestly I was very surprised it turned out to be a manual as well, but I think the IDI's are not as desirable as the NBS 7.3s or the 6.0's. Either way i'm happy for you and your purchase.
My first vehicle at age 16 was a 4x4 90’ IDI with a BANKS Turbo and a 5 speed. Supercab/Longbed. Straight piped it, upped the IP six flats, insulated CAI, K&N filter, and a custom 2.5psi propane injection system. Loved that thing a whole damn lot. You certainly got a killer deal!
Sounds like an awesome rig! That's basically what I was looking for but never found one at the right price or with all the right options. This one came up at the right place and right time so I bought it. Very happy with my purchase. Those bricknose trucks are awesome. We might put a banks kit on the 87 one day! Thanks for watching!
@@hondayamahafan I highly recommend propane injection as well! It was a simple system that gave noticeable pull on steep grades or higher gears on the highway. Had to be over 5psi of boost to shoot it though, or you’d get gnarly knock

I have essentially the same truck (color and all) except it's a '92 with an after market turbo. These things aren't fast, but mine still gets amazing mileage, looks great and will go anywhere and do anything (pulled a 16K lb travel trailer over the Sierras). Best of all, I can fix everything on the truck myself, usually pretty inexpensively. If I had a new truck it would $1K-$2K to the shop for the most minor of issues, because I have no idea where to even start. Thanks for the video.
That's really cool! I love the cheap factor as well. It's simple enough to work on yourself. I just overhauled the. Cooling system so itll stay cool towing on hills. Radiator was almost completely choked up with scale and garbage. Sounded like it was full of rocks.
@@yaboycai9578 I have a Banks Sidewinder turbo on my truck. I don't know that the power output is all that noticeable (my Dad has the same truck without the turbo), but with the turbo and a half gallon of #1 diesel (which is essentially kerosene) per tank I can get close to 20 mpg. That's with 285K miles on the odometer. Note, it's very important to keep your air filter clean to get the best mileage.
Im looking at a 94 F250 XL Ext cab 351 Windsor. It got imported to Holland in American condition so needs some extra work and costs to make it for our roads. Hope those costs aint too high so I could buy it!
It should be a great truck for you. 1996 f350 crewcab powerstroke 348000 miles and running great - change their oil, keep up with the little stuff - pulley's, glowplug relays, etc. Looking to get 500,000 plus Great Truck!! (purchased 1998 - $20,000, 92,000 miles if you were wondering.
Great choice on wheel and tire package, looks excellent compared to trucks like these with obnoxiously wide wheels sticking out from the fenders and rubber band tires. Those have their place but not on something like this, good job.
Thanks! I love the look of the factory wheels. Only regret is i would probably go with slightly larger/wider tires. These are the stock size and and look small/narrow next to my brothers idi (the 6.9) which is has slightly taller/wider tires on stock rims
@@davidharrell8890 why 1st gen didn't?? Exactly points, i love the ram 2nd gen with cummins 12v manual transmission nv4500, then 7.3 power stroke intercooled and then chevy 6.6 duramax same years
My brother had the first Ford diesel, think it was a 6.9. Odometer broke at 200k and he drove it another 10 years. Dont have a clue how many miles it had when he sold it. Wouldent pull your shadow but couldent kill it with a cannonball. The 7.3 P/S Was great but in mid 03 Ford killed their reputation with the 6.0 Hand grenade. Wouldent touch even their new diesels with a ten foot pole!
Check out our other video to see our 6.9 NA! That truck made me realize I needed one too! Great trucks. I love these old trucks, and not making monthly payments on a $80,000 truck!
In 86 an xlt lariat wit the two slant windows was $16500. Had aux fuel selection. 6.9 non turbo. rattling but didn't shake as bad as a 93 5.9. the dodges require a brain to make your own parts from different mopars. Looks like ass drives like ass but ultimately, id only get one for the longbed. I could have bought the Cummins but grandpa gave it away. What can you do? Am I right? That Ford is better looking than that peeling turd of a Cummins
Sweet truck. I've got 4 of them a 93 f259 super cab. 2 94s ones a four-door f350 single wheel the other is an F-250 supercab. The last one is a F-350 86 model with a 5.9 Cummins in it. I love them all
Thank you! I'm planning on making an update video to show off all of the stuff I've done since this video. It sounds like you've got a collection of nice trucks!
Great video👍 I have the same truck. It’s my daily drive. It’s a joy to drive, i’ve have a couple videos on it.. Looking forward more my content. Good luck
I live in the UK but this is my favourite diesel of all time that I'll never own! I've only seen one in person in a private ambulance. I like the steel wheels, should get them banded? Be good with bigger element/s in fuel pump. Turning standard one up gives power but increases the dwell which can cause damage but a little is ok Btw diesel costs £1.62 a litre here...£6.48/US gallon ....$9-10?!!! I used to have VW TDI with 180bhp and 300ftlb torque. Similar to an idi! But 25-55mpg.
Thanks! They're cool machines. I get around 14 mpg at 75 mpg. And yeah they don't have a ton of power but they're very fun. Looking to get a new pump and injectors in the next few months!
@@hondayamahafan the thing to know is that ideally fuel must be injected over the same amount of time/ degrees of rotation, so bigger element/s allow you to do this. Dpuk/ diesel pump UK have some good videos with mercedes diesels with Dyno tests of different pump elements, they're inline pumps, yours has 2 elements I think but theory is the same. You can even improve MPG when driving slowly. I'd stay with standard turbo and not go to mad unless you have a spare engine to play with. Twin turbo with tubular exhaust headers?
Hey man where did you all the parts for your truck.Thank you please let me know and if anyone knows where I can get parts for my 93 7.3 idi turbo like injectors, glow plugs inter coolers, radiators, turbos or anything please comment
I got them from various places. There's a good community around IDI trucks. For sellers, russrepair.com idiperformance.com and classicdieseldesigns.com are all good for pumps and injectors and turbos. Glow plugs can be purchased from auto parts stores like O'Reilly. Only buy the genuine motorcraft ZD9 plugs, the other brands are trash. Check out the Ford IDI Facebook group and oilburners.net for support too
@@hondayamahafan the 7.3l NA almost the same as 6.9l in terms of power. So you saying that means it is worth it! Thanks!! Also i saw the 6.9l vid and i think you have a 4.10 rear mines a 3.55 but i'm thinking of going 4.10 if i turbo and then maybe if funding permits look into a hi low tranny (gear vendor or brownie splitter)
about to pick one up for 2 grand 150k miles no rust just clear coat peel but horn don't work and wipers and front gas tank leaks all easy fixes and also no blow bye
I have the same truck it's a 1992 with a 5.8 351w it's got a new block and rebuilt trans with less than 30k miles on both 240k on truck but it's in very good condition as there is almost never any snow here I have an offer of $4000 for my truck but I just don't want to sell it I also have a 5.0 302 efi that runs setting on my shop floor I pulled out of a 90 E150 Van sold rest of van for $600 when I paid $500 for it I pretty much don't have a penny spent on the 5.0 it's got a brand new starter and some other things on it I'd like to have a idi diesel but it's cheaper to get a gas engine I had a 93 or 94 F250 short cab long bed with a idi but my mother sold it for $50 the entire truck for $50!!!
Oregon boy logger gold miner I have the same dam truck 1993 turbo 5 speed love the punky old Wilbur is his name lol.spice up the fule with a quart of atf no kidding I do.
Do you want a Harley-Davidson and switch and trade for either one of them I love the F-250 350 and 150 but I love the ideal I don't know if IDI diesel sorry voice texting I don't know if I trust the 73 as much as a 6.9 but I want one LOL
Haha no thanks! We love our trucks too much and have already put to much time and money into them to trade or sell! I'm sure someone out there would be interested in trading though. And yeah 7.3s can be a bit of a mixed bag with cavitation. Mine was well maintained fortunately!
@@hondayamahafan that truck right there in that style is absolutely what I want maybe not the 7.3 obviously LOL does yours have a 5-speed I can't remember I'm having a brain fart and smoking bud right now LOL but yeah that is the absolute style I want extended cab four wheel drive standard lockout hubs 69 with a turbo oh boy that would be absolutely my dream and how easy is it to run waste oil through those
So on these things, if you delete the factory fuel system, change the fuel head, & electric fuel pump. Get the pure diesel power idi filter head, buy a roll of eBay bio diesel fuel line, a Holley blue electric fuel pump, some brass Ts, & yeah.
Does yours still have a muffler. Mine is straight piped. My brothers 6.9 is NA and it's even louder than mine on downshifts. Really it makes that noise when decelerating/letting off above 2500 rpm
In this video, the truck is factory 2.5 inch exhaust, straight piped and exited in front of the rear wheel. Now it's got a 4" exhaust all the way back to a 6" tip
These are the stock 235/85 R16s. In hindsight I wish I would've gotten 265/85 because that's what my Andrew's 87 has on it and they look beefier than these.
