Liking this series. Very informative. As an older couple with adult children from our previous relationships we needed to protect the a future surviving spouse from being evicted by the children inheriting We went to a Notaire who prepared a *donation entre époux* for us. This ensures that either one of us will continue to own the whole property for the duration of our life.
Thanks for the reply. I should have said the videos you put out were good, not over talking and getting to the point, which is good when people would like see info. and understand things quickly. I sincerely hope it's all working out for you. England is OK but I miss France, the people, the ambience, the food, the life, the quality of life. Good Luck!!!
Hi, spot on information !! we have just signed our compromise and its now with the vendors. We are so excited for our move to exideuil hopefully end of April. Clement and Magda
we had 2 notaires doing the sale of our apartment here in France, one for us and one for the seller. I don't know if this is usual, but my French mother-in-law insisted as a protection for us, like a 3rd set of eyes to make sure the contract was sound.
I think it's more common to just have 1 but I know you can request to have a specific one so presume this would be an additional one too. Seems like a good idea!
I've just watched your 4 videos on Buying a House in France. Seems straight forward enough, providing you take note of the details you mention throughtout. I'd like to know through which system of banking you paid for your house? If you had funds tied up in a british bank, how did you pay in Euros. An American lady living in France says use a Currency Exchange Broker.
Yes we used a currency exchange broker. You can save a bit on the rate but it can be complicated as there are more forms to declare where the money originally came from and this was a stress a day before signing. In hindsight I'd use bank to bank and take the hit on more fees.
If you want to build an extension you have to apply for planning permission. Basically you can't just build whatever you want without someone ie the major checking that it's allowed, safe, viable etc.
Thank you so much for these videos they are just what we were looking for... will there be a part 4 regarding currency as this important for us to understand.
That’s correct. We just haven’t got around to it. It requires bit more planning than the others. However now is a very good time to exchange money $ and £ into €! I’ll see if we can do it this month. Thanks for watching Richard.
Thanks for the information you provided in your video. Are the yearly property taxe percentages for urban vs. rural properties different, or are they the same?
Thank you for your video. Very informative. Are there any other fees apart from estate agent and the notaries fees? I have heard of land registry fees but don’t really know what these are. Many thanks.
So those come under notaire fees. Apart from estate agents and notaire the only other money we paid was to SAFER to speed up their decision on whether they wanted to buy the place but that's optional and wouldn't apply to all properties.
Thanks for posting this video! I am curious...may I ask what percentage off you proposed as your initial offer and if that was close to the final purchase price?
Hi David, we offered 20% less than the asking price (which had already been reduced). The offer was accepted although they did keep us waiting to find out for over a week!
@@LivingintheLoire I’m having some difficulties communicating with my real estate agent in Lourdes, France. We are very interested in a flat and want to know details. Is it fairly common for agents to be not as responsive in France?
