I am planning to visit Norway beginning of september but flying into Alesund which is more remote compared to Oslo and Bergen. A little worried that I may not be able to purchase a sim card at the airport. I will be renting a car and drive through Norway. I will mainly need data in order to use google maps. Do you recommend going to the local Telia and getting a sim card there?

Hey there - I hope you will have fun in Norway! I just checked the Alesund airport website (I have not been there myself), and it does have a kiosk. But I cannot promise they will sell SIM cards there... especially as the kiosk is closed until "further notice". You would indeed be better off visiting a Telia store, grocery store & 7-Eleven and get your SIM card there (if you do not go to a Telia store, be sure to get registration done at the place of purchase!

Hi I will be traveling to Norway in September for 10 days. I will be flying into Oslo and driving around so will need google maps mostly. I’ll be spending about half those days in tromso as well. I’m a little confused about whether I could or should get an esim card vs physical. Also do you recommend getting a physical one at the airport or perhaps at the train station in Oslo (I intend to take the train from Oslo Airport to the city center). Additionally, since I’ll be needing service in Oslo/Bergen area but also in the Tromso area which service would you recommend for coverage and speed for both those areas? Thanks!

Hey there! Sounds like you have a fun trip ahead next month! If coverage is of concern, I would definitely go with Telia Norway or Mycall Norway (which both offer 5G NR speeds). If you do not mind about not having 5G NR reception, consider the Airalo Norway Lofotel eSIM - cheaper than Telia, Mycall (and useless Lycamobile) while using the Telenor Norway network (the best in Norway, but it does not offer reasonable prepaid plans. Hence, the Lofotel eSIM is somehow better). If you do not want to worry about data caps, consider the Holafly Norway eSIM. It also uses the Telenor Norway network and gives you unlimited data for 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 60 & 90 days. It is more expensive than Airalo, but still cheaper than any local option. You do get 5% off with code "PHONETRAVELWIZ"

If I solo travel in Tromso Norway, can I purchase the bus pass for 1 or 2 day ? Would it be good to avoid paying using apps or any digital payments?
