@@austinsadventures305 I’m a diehard whaler fan. So anything that looks like a whaler but isn’t a whaler won’t work lol. Still nice little boats. I’d take one of the price was right
@@Whalermansteve84 looks like a whaler? I'm not knocking whalers because they are legendary but you get in a sportfish and it feels way more substantial than a whaler of similar size with the finishes they put in. And at this price there wasn't a whaler in the world for sale trust me. Lol
@caseywolf3812 it was a bad ass little boat. I loved it. Only 2 issues I have with these older smaller scouts. 1 is they used aluminum fuel tanks in the floor and are prone to pitting and leaking. 2 is they have "self bailing" decks which is great in theory BUT you're always standing in water and my bilge would always turn on if I had people on the front deck because water would come in anchor locker and drain toward the back and then kick bilge on. It annoys me to pull my plug at the end of a trip and see any water coming out and it was constant with the scout. The build quality is great and the ride and fiahability was awesome it's just those little things that drove me nuts. I would still own another one though so take those complaints with a grain of salt
Thanks fellas you guys are a lifeline right now. And how would I be able to tell if the fuel tank is ok or if it would need to be replaced? Also, when you mention the water on the deck issue is that the water coming through the holes beneath the bow mentioned in the comments below?
That boat was cool. My buddy Matt sold it a while ago. We polled around down here in the keys and it was a fantastic boat for the backcountry. Not terrible hull slap at all
What’s the reason for the hole down below the u bolt on the front of the boat. I’m looking at buying one like this and it has a hole in the same place.
@@austinsadventures305 oh that’s good to know. I thought it looked like someone just drilled a hole through the front for no reason. I was glad to see it in the same spot on this one
It’s a 75HP and no need for a whale tail after propping the boat correctly, the boat has almost zero bow rise now. But some boats definitely need them.
I've been digging into this thing for weeks every nook and cranny. I've reached into every crevice and felt foam and can't find any water yet. I have fixed some through hull leaks, replaced a fuel line, reran some wiring, replaced all fluids, a new prop, replaced all grease, cleaned all the stainless, ran a full tank with a can of seafoam through her(carbs are now crazy clean, etc. There are some cosmetic issues in gel coat and keel I will address once it's not so hot but I've taken it on several 40+ mile rides and she will hit 36 and runs like a banshee. Had it in some nasty chop too and handled surprisingly well. I will continue digging but in all honesty it's an amazing boat for what I got it for
Update: have found some in rear Working on a plan for addressing it now. Any tips? I've had a shop vac blowing in there for 3 days and at least what I can feel is drying out BUT not sure what it's like down lower.
@@austinsadventures305 I know the quality of the boat too just having an issue because it’s older and people tend to shy away or get scared because of that not knowing what it really is
@@neishab264 yes. Typically a boat that age needs completely re done. I am personally not interested, I would try listing on boat trader. Good luck with the sale!
The answer is “Bad” I had a friend that owned this boat, it’s like a paddle board with an engine. I’m sure it’s fine for a smaller lake or a river, but NOT harbor, bay, or ocean. Down right dangerous (not to mention insanely rough ride) in any water with a one foot chop (that’s being generous) or more
