Welcome to Chasing Latitudes! Have you ever imagined the smell of the ocean air as your boat crashes through the waves? The freedom that comes from casting off the bow lines and heading out to sea to explore new places you can’t reach by car or airplane? Then this channel is for you.
You will not see white sand beaches here, restaurant reviews, beach parties, selfies or Japanese knives. What you will find is factual information based on decades of sailing experience.
My channel is specifically meant for one thing and one thing only, to help YOU find your new to you fancy-dancy yacht of your dreams and get on the water in the fastest, most time efficient manner.
Don’t get caught up in looking at old boats! I focus on mostly newer vessels, built in 2000 or later because I want you to spend as much of your time as possible sailing, not practicing your restoration skills on an old boat attempting to bring it to its former glory.
You want to take advantage of the amazing newer technology and modern hull designs when it comes to sailing. This is going to make your vessel far easier to sail solol or short handed and make them far more comfortable and efficient to live aboard full time or even just weekenders without buying more boat than you need.
I offer a wide variety of services including consulting where I will take you through the entire process of how to budget properly, choosing what vessel size will work for your needs, what type of vessel, I will help you shop for vessels, determine offer prices, schedule surveys, talk with brokers, teach you how to do your own pre-survey, walk you through hiring the correct surveyor and help you avoid all of the common pitfalls that you will find when purchasing used sailing vessels.
The consulting does not stop there, I will be with you every step of the way and long after you have purchased your vessel as consulting also comes with lifetime access to the members area,.
Chasing Latitudes hosts a large, active private members area where the members are more than happy to offer their own experience to solve problems, host private videos for ASA Sailing quizzes (ASA 101, 103, & 104), and live stream videos which feature anything from member cruising to boat shopping, boat comparisons, and other live content with chat from the subscribers to my RU-vid channel and channel members.
It’s time for YOU to get on the water. Come aboard!

Hunter 41DS is maybe the one. Especially if it’s fits into under 40ft slip

Chris, I love your commentary and if I lived in the U.S. I would definitely meet with you. I'm in Melbourne and I plan to purchase a 49 DS or 54 DS in 2 to 3 years. I have to learn to sail and get my skippers ticket before I go boat hunting. Currently I am scouring Yachtworld to keep an eye on prices but I have zero experience in such things. I am certain I will be buying in the mediterranean when the time comes... until then thank you for the excellent guidance. I learn from your videos :)

Wow, what a exciting video! I absolutely loved your commentary and seeing the process of buying a used sailboat. The Hunter 41DS sounds like a great option, especially if it fits into an under 40ft slip. Let's show our support to this channel! Keep up the amazing work, I'm hooked and eager to learn more from you. Troy, you're doing a fantastic job engaging all of us. Keep sailing and sharing the adventure with us!

I think you missed the best Hunter DS of all time. The 44. 43.3/39.1 length, 14.6 beam, 56hp, 23000lbs, 66 gallons fuel, 140 gallons of water. I’m thinking this might be the biggest boat you can fit in a 40ft slip. She’s a monster with a huge interior. Perfect for a fat Canadian who wants to sail for a week and stay on anchor for months. She’s under the magic 5ft number for length. Only a 4 foot difference. Is that “the one” I think so.

Before I saw the new Moody DS models, my dream deck salon was a Dufour Atoll 43, the interior quality was questionable but the layout was catamaran level good

@ChasingLatitudes love the videos, binge watching while at work servicing gas boilers. What are your thoughts on the Hunter 50cc? Obviously, Centre Cockpits aren't your thing, but despite that 😂

Cool way you do your videos! But Hunter 41 DS is kinda not a deck saloon yacht. My, and I know a few people who agree with me, definition on deck saloon yacht is simple: SITTING in the deck saloon at the table AND being able to look out of the windows.
@ChasingLatitudes
@ChasingLatitudes 7 месяцев назад
It's considered a hybrid deck salon, not a true deck salon as you said, I believe I covered that in this video

I've noticed a slight trend of people lowering prices of used boats but only selling 1/3 share or 1/2 share of the boat (?). I would worry all the time at at sea if someone let their kids hit a dock or ground the keel... idk just seems odd to me. Wondering if anyone else felt the same.

Chris, Question: Is a newer sailboat (2003+) quieter at anchor/mooring or in a marina than an older "blue water" boat? I hear people talk about how loud boats get.
@Boatlessguy
@Boatlessguy 7 месяцев назад
Noise usually comes from the mooring lines on the cleats as line becomes taunt & loose ... or the mooring buoy bouncing off the hull when slack. Can happen to any make/model/year.
@nodogrunner
@nodogrunner 7 месяцев назад
@@Boatlessguy So, obviously halyards banging against the mast is one thing, but do older boats creak more that boats 2000 or newer? Lighter boats vs heavy? I get what you mean about mooring lines. Tks.

On the 45 DS, you gain the island birth, master. If you sleep with a woman, that is a big selling point. If you're just a single guy, then the transverse bed in the 426 would still work.

I put the numbers for the 44DS below. It’s 39 feet at the water line and 14.6 wide. I think it could squeeze into a smaller slip. I love that boat

I'm not, just for 99% of sailors they would not make sense both in sailing or financially

@@ChasingLatitudes I was just picking, I feel a trimaran would work for a solo sailor for the size one might be able to afford... I was kinda curious why it was an orange one though. 😆
