Also ask yourself which regions you want to go to and then consider potential local limitations (harbour sizes!, draught, mast height, environmental certification requirements, etc.). It's not really fun if your yacht is that big that you can only dock in large marinas or even worse industrial ports / at cruise ship terminals. This said Vieux Port in St. Tropez for example has a max LOA of 50m and if your yacht is larger than that you'll be in fierce competition for being allowed to dock at Môle D'Estienne D'Orves (chances are it's going to be booked already when you make up your mind to go there). The Bahamas on the other hand won't be very enjoyable if your yacht isn't a shallow draft one.

Have a background as Able Body Seaman in the Swedish Merchant Fleet (mostly Ro/Ro such as Wallenius). However today my life circumstances a slightly financial different from “then” and I’m 🤔 of purchasing my own vessel, love the Numarine 37XP but could also go for the Canados 143 . I wish to explore the 🌎 but this time on my terms 😊. Even though my own interior design on a Esquel is most desirable with single 🛏️/cabins for all the crew including PS5, led-tv/and a 🖥️ connected to Starlink.

Yes, I would like to know the pros and cons of chartering. Particularly if the boat stays primarily in the Caribbean. Say charter out if the Bahamas, St Barts or Antigua

Great to see you again, Tristan. It would be nice top see a video to discuss whether a steal or composite based super yacht is is better or not. A number of composite super yachts have caught fire recently, whereas steel ones don't normally. Obviously, steel ones are more expensive, etc.

Charter first to find out, bit like producer michael, bought one then found out he had terrible sea sickness so sold it

It's good that you offer that yacht management service, helping ensure certs etc are correct. I remember that video of you on AWOL with the pile of ring binders, making absolutely sure everything was squared away - looks a nightmare, I'd be lost instantly!

Hi Tristan. Miss the AWOL team greatly. Hypothetically, if I won the lottery and never owned a yacht and decided to buy the ultimate machine (the yacht) would you hire the captain first? I would think first. He/She should be able to guide you to a great boat and get the best out of it as long as the experience is there. Since (hypothetical me) I have never owned a yacht where should one turn to find a suitable one who has the tickets to command a 50 , 500 or 3000 ton vessel? Just curious what your thoughts are.

Note we have never been on the water nor chartered a yacht. I've been doing the research for this for a year. Again thank you for your information, it's very helpful.

Working towards the net worth to make the decision. The annual crew salary and expenses make charter a lot more appealing if you are only 2-3 months aboard each year. A few weeks of charters of a nice 40m for say $1.5M all in including APA could easily be your salaries and fuel/insurance

Hi Tristan great to see you, I have been new to your channel I'm very impressed and it has been very informative keep up the great work, I would like to ask you I would like to know more about flags and or more so the flag of the boat registered of that country what are the differences, and Secound I know your focussing on your new venture but it would be nice to know what are your old crew members are doing now or maybe have a reunion episode or something, and finally would you consider one day purchasing a yacht and running the boat yourself, once again keep up the great work

@SuperYachtCapt. Refitting a yacht. Ove seen the yacht Trafalgar featured, by Aquaholic..that yacht appear to be dated and and visually need to be updated. So if a person bought it would you still suggest take it out for 1 season before Refitting it? 2 would you suggest the shipyard that originally built the yacht or a shipyard that specifically that customize the yacht near where you live. And how much to spend on customization if the new owner decides to sell the yacht. And how much could a new owner of an older yacht refit expected to loose in the process. Keep up the good work. I think the biggest con against chartering is that if you ever charter a boat you run the risk of finding out you want more ! You don't want to leave after just one week, you want to remain on the water, on the boat. 😀

I am in the market for a 500 gross ton explorer yacht. The only catch is I need to finance 150% of the full purchase price at a favorable interest rate. Is this a viable proposition?

Do you work exclusively with superyachts? What about yachts in the 60-80 ft range? If your portfolio is only superyachts, would you be able to recommend a broker for us somewhat poorer folks?
